Re: Roxy & Spence
Roxy was sure that Gavin wouldn’t force a marriage between Jasper and Jules if she got pregnant like his family had ... or had it been Olivia’s family pushing for it? Roxy wasn’t sure and it didn’t matter now, that crazy bitch had been off of her radar for years. While the romantic side of her wanted to believe she and Spence would’ve made it work no matter what, her more practical brain knew he was probably right. They’d been too young back then, but the current moment was a very different story, and the last thing Spence said made Roxy’s chest flutter. “You think we’re meant to be, huh?” she murmured with a pleased smile. She had much more fun talking about them than the future of her former-almost-nephew.
Spence raised an eyebrow and smiled, his hands tightening around her. "Don't you?" He wasn't a big believer in fate and all that, but he was pretty sure certain stars had aligned to get him and Roxy where they were now. "I mean... I had to wait a bit for you, but here you are. There's that whole... if you love something, set it free and if it comes back? It's meant to be." He paused and wrinkled his nose slightly before releasing a small laugh. "Shit, that rhymed. I never realized it. That sounded corny as hell."
It wasn't the time to point out that Spence had done the leaving -- none of that mattered now, and it did feel like that was how it had to have happened. Roxy laughed and smooched his chin. "I love corny, I needed corny,” she told him with a grin. She'd also really needed someone who would say things like they were meant to be, someone who felt like he was in it as much as she was. "And I love you, and we're definitely meant to be.” Now that she was getting more distance from it, Roxy was seeing that she'd learned a lot from her relationship with Caden, mostly what it really took to make her happy in a relationship. And Spence kept giving her so much of it. "I don't know if fate is real, but you're everything I ever wanted.”
Spence knew he had been the one to leave, but he didn't exactly regret it. He had college and then he'd had to grow up. But he'd also had to wait for Roxy when he moved back home. He'd known Caden wasn't good for her, and in time, she would come to realize it too. And now here they were, living together and dancing at a wedding. "I feel the same way," he murmured, leaning in to kiss her again. He didn't know if he believed in fate either, but life had a funny way of working out.
