Re: Roxy & Spence
Roxy gave a delighted laugh and rolled her eyes like she didn’t believe him, but part of her really wanted to. Every woman wanted to feel gorgeous on a day when she’d put a lot of effort in. Besides that, she liked the way Spence said it, like he meant it as a compliment and not some paranoid accusation. It was such an amazing novelty to be in a healthy relationship, even if they still had things to learn about each other. Being with Spence felt so right, and that was all she needed to know. “I have faith that you can at least avoid damnation until we get home,” Roxy said, curling her fingers in the back of his hair. “You know everyone’s expecting me to catch the bouquet, right? Me or Jasper’s girlfriend, maybe.” She snickered a bit.
Spence definitely wasn't lying. A lot of guys, especially after they had been drinking, didn't always police what they said. And Roxy looked gorgeous in her dress, with her hair and makeup all done. Spence thought she was gorgeous every day, but she was especially stunning today. The mention of the bouquet prompted Spence to raise a brow. "Oh yeah? I think if it comes down to you and Jules Cooper, you should have no problem taking that thing home. Besides... I would think Jasper and his girlfriend are a bit young for that stuff, aren't they? Can you imagine thinking about getting married that young?"
Her first thought was a mental image of bumping Jules with her hip while they jostled for the bouquet and sending the poor skinny girl flying across the room, and Roxy grinned to herself. She didn’t have anything against Jules Cooper, and it was kind of a mean thought, but she was just so tiny. Roxy had seen that bouquet toss turn into a contact sport, and while she had no real desire to throw elbows for it, it was funny to think about. “They’re both older than Gavin was when he had Jasper,” she pointed out. “Of course that wasn’t on purpose, but ... you and me were thinking about it that young.” Roxy smiled faintly at him. They hadn’t been engaged, but they’d been seriously together before Spence had left for college. It was easy to look back and say they’d been too young, but young people made up their minds about love all the time.
Spence wasn't sure he would consider Gavin's situation to be the same as Jasper and Jules. Hell, these days if a girl got pregnant, marriage wasn't exactly a given anymore. He returned her smile with a small one of his own. "Yeah, we were. But looking back on that now... probably wouldn't have been the best idea at that age. Being that young is hard enough, adding on the responsibilities and stress of being married..." He had no idea how things would have gone between them but he didn't think high school romances, even if they turned into marriage, had a lot of longevity. "People have to grow. I like to think if somethin's meant to be, it'll be. Like us."
