Re: Roxy & Spence
The compliment made her smile brighter but then she snort-laughed, hunching her shoulders and covering her mouth with one hand. It was ridiculous and immature, of course, but it did give Roxy a bit of pleasure to imagine Spence doing just that. “God no, she would probably just take it off in front of everyone,” she said, still smirking as she reached for her glass again. “Thank you though -- for the offer and the compliment ... you look pretty damn good yourself.” Roxy sipped from her drink and eyed him over the rim. He had a dirty day job, but he sure cleaned up nicely. “Are you having fun? Didn’t lose too many IQ points talking to Aaron’s friends?”
Spence was generally a pretty mature individual who didn't like to rock the boat, but he would absolutely risk getting punched by Caden if it meant making Roxy feel better. He grinned when she laughed and had to admit, she was probably right about Caden's wife stripping off her dress if it got a spill. She seemed to enjoy the attention her cleavage had been getting all day. "I'm having fun," he assured her, glancing around the room. Everyone seemed to be having a good time, which was a relief. One never knew with the Lucas family. "And nah, Aaron's friends are good people. Though it's kinda w-weird that Aaron seems to be the most mature one of the group. He would've fit in pretty well with a... fraternity."
The idea of Aaron in college was also laughable, but that felt like a mean thought to Roxy. She’d always liked Aaron, he was the big friendly dog of the Lucas family, he couldn’t help that he was an airhead. He was so good to Mila and he was going to love that baby to the moon and back, and that was all that really mattered to Roxy now. “He was practically in one in high school, all those football boys were so up each other’s asses,” she replied with a smirk. She nodded toward the cluster of guys Spence had been talking to. “Looks like they’re all still in love too, good for them.” Roxy knew a lot of them from back in the day, and the ones who’d stuck around town had often frequented the bar, so it was a familiar crowd to her. She might have been talking shit, but they weren’t genuine criticisms, guys needed close friends too. Honestly she thought Spence needed more of them. The song changed and Roxy gave his hand a squeeze. “Wanna dance?”
"Some people don't outgrow high school, I guess. Probably harder to do that when you stay in the same place all your life." To no fault of their own, of course. Some people couldn't afford to leave, or maybe they were just happy where they were. Spence used to have a bevy of friends the way Aaron had then and did now, but then he had moved away and lost touch with most of them, except for Dan. Even now, being back in Point Pleasant, Dan was really the only person Spence enjoyed hanging out with, save for Roxy. Maybe that was sad, but it was more comfortable that way. He wasn't sure what he would have in common with his old buddies anymore. Maybe he and Aaron would get along well enough, if Mila and Roxy wanted the four of them to hang out more. Smiling, Spence nodded at Roxy's question and set his beer down to stand with her. "We're not gonna h-have a dance off with Caden and Boobies McGee are we?"
