Roxy & Spence
The wedding had been lovely and sweet, just as Roxy expected, and the happy couple looked positively over the moon. She’d been happy to stand up with her best friend as she tied the knot, and Roxy was glad they’d decided on a tiny wedding party -- Caden had still been in the front row, but out of her direct line of sight, and that made things easier. Even Gavin had cracked a smile on his side behind Aaron as they were announced husband and wife. Then there were so many pictures to take, and now they were finally to the really fun part of weddings, the reception.
Roxy was infinitely glad that Spence was with her, she was pretty sure she would’ve lost her mind otherwise. Caden’s wife had reached into her hooker closet to pull something tight and sexy, and Roxy wanted to push her down some stairs. It was completely irrational, she knew that. If anything she ought to be trying to warn the girl, tell her to run if she valued her sanity ... but that wasn’t a good idea either. As the reception got underway, Roxy did her very best just to ignore their existence. She was there for Mila, she had a handsome and loving date on her arm, she needed to stop caring about what her stupid ex and his skinny dumb wife were doing.
She was drinking instead! Because that made sense, right? Roxy had mentally promised herself that she wasn’t going to get sloppy, because that was a bad look, but she definitely wanted to be numb and having as good a time as possible. So she was nursing another strong cocktail as she rested her feet at the table she and Spence had claimed, her eyes roaming over the crowd.
It was a really nice wedding, though Spence had focused more on Roxy than anything else for most of the day. She looked stunning in her dress, with her hair all done up nice. He felt like a damn lucky man to be there with her. But he also knew that she was having trouble with Caden and his new wife being present as well, so Spence wanted to be sure that he was around if she needed to vent... and maybe to keep her from acting out or saying something she would regret later. Or maybe not regret. He had a beer in hand when he caught her sitting at their table and Spence pulled away from the conversation he had been having with a few of Aaron's friends. "Hey," he said with a small smile, placing a kiss on top of her head before he sat down in the chair beside her. "Doing okay?"
Roxy smiled at the kiss, leaning to bump her shoulder against him before he sat down. Spence looked ridiculously handsome in his nice clothes, and he’d been sweet and attentive the whole wedding, without smothering her. Roxy didn’t feel like she was being babysat or anything, but she appreciated that he was never far away. “Oh I’m doing great,” she said. She could hear the note of false chipperness in her own tone and she winced a little and took another drink. “No, I am, I’m fine.” Roxy gave him a little smile and reached to slip her free hand into his. “It’s just ... fantastic and awkward in waves, you know?”
Spence cocked a brow, because he knew false enthusiasm when he heard it. But then she seemed to remember that she could be honest with him, and Spence gave her a small, understanding smile. He squeezed her hand gently. "I do know, yeah." Thankfully Caden and his new wife seemed to be avoiding Roxy as much as she was avoiding them and that was the best for everyone. "And I know I've already told you a d-dozen times but you look amazing." He leaned in and lowered his voice, trying to suppress a smile. "Want me to accidentally spill a drink down her dress?"
