Charlie and Gavin (after Jules and Jasper)
Gavin had stood guard for a few minutes, ready to step in if the fight between Jasper and Jules escalated. He'd tried not to listen in on it but it was hard not to overhear some of what they were saying when they kept raising their voices. Never quite enough that he felt the need to go shush them, they'd gone off to a secluded hall - thankfully! - but enough that he caught a thing or two he really did not need to hear. Like how his son had apparently had sex with his best friend. His male best friend. Something Gavin was still desperately hoping he was misunderstanding but Jules had said it pretty loudly and clearly. He'd put a little more distance between himself and the teenagers after that and as soon as it seemed like they were a little calmer he decided that if they got into a physical altercation at this wedding it was probably not something he could prevent whether he was twenty feet away or a hundred.
He grabbed his first glass of wine of the evening as he looked around for Charlie, making eye contact with her and gesturing at a nearby table to let her know where to find him. He didn't want to rush her, she was talking to someone and he probably needed a moment to decompress anyway, but he hoped she'd join him soon. Not necessarily to talk about what had happened, but to get some of that grounding effect she always seemed to have on him.
Charlie had been pretty social most of the day, but she had kept an eye on Gavin, aware of how hard he was working today to ensure people behaved themselves. He always took so much on his shoulders, but Charlie knew Gavin felt like the patriarch of the family, especially now with the actual patriarch deceased. At some point, she noticed him standing near one of the exit doors, like he was waiting for someone or something, but then she got distracted by Mila's parents coming to say hello, and Charlie tried to focus on being sociable again, at least for a while. When she caught sight of Gavin again, their eyes met, and she nodded lightly when he gestured toward one of the tables. It took another five minutes to pull away from the conversation, but once she did, Charlie got a fresh glass of wine and joined Gavin, slipping into the chair beside him. "No fighting, no drunken behavior or injury... it's been a pretty successful Lucas wedding so far," she told him with a smile, reaching up to brush some of his hair from his forehead.
Gavin just let out a slow and drawn out 'ahh' to lightly signal the negative of that, squinting for a second. "No injury," he said then. "I'll settle for that." He shook his head and gestured vaguely toward the hall even if the kids were now long gone. "Jasper and Jules," he clarified somewhat tiredly and glanced at his empty glass of wine. Yeah, he should have gone to the bar instead and gotten something bigger, something that might have lasted him a bit longer, but odds were he'd have just swallowed it all down in one gulp anyway and he was saving the buzz for later.
Charlie raised a brow, glancing at the doors in the back before her gaze found Gavin's again. So, some fighting then. "Oh. Well... you remember what it was like to be a teenager and fighting with your girlfriend. Drama comes with the territory at that age. I'm sure they'll be fine. What were they fighting about?" He looked weary, and she nudged her glass in his direction in case he wanted a drink, given that his was now empty.
