Re: Sage & Jasper (early in the party)
Jasper actually enjoyed the dark more now than he had before their fog-world ordeal, but he knew that was probably weird of him. He’d just gotten kind of comfortable slinking around that twilight world -- as comfortable as it was possible to be under constant threat of death, anyway. So much of that trauma had seemed to be pushed down and muted while he’d been there, and it was still working its way through his body and mind now that he was home. His was only kind of getting better too. He tilted the flask to give Sage a generous pour, then capped it off and tucked it back into his pocket, nodding slightly. The small innuendo made him look away and flush a tiny bit, and he had the urge to look around for Jules again, like she could be watching them and just knew. Jasper managed to resist. He sipped his drink instead. “Distractions help,” he echoed quietly. “Does uh ... your date know my uncle?” He couldn’t think of any other connection Sage might have to his family, besides him, of course, and he definitely hadn’t done the inviting.
Sage raised a brow as Jasper flushed, an amused smirk tugging at his lips as he took a sip of his now liberally spiked drink. That entire night with Jasper was hazy and he couldn’t even recall what they’d talked about, but he distinctly remembered Jasper’s curiosity playing a part in it. He thought maybe he’d figured himself out by now, but life could be complicated. People made it complicated, and he was pretty sure there were people involved, not just sex. Mention of his date caused Sage to look Marsh’s way, his smile softening slightly. “Yeah, I think they used to date,” he grinned. “Or play on some team together. Same thing, right?” He was teasing and he hoped Jasper knew that. The groom looked as straight as an arrow and even if he wasn’t, he was clearly head over heels for his bride. “I’m still kinda floored that he asked me.”
For a split second, Aaron dating another guy years ago seemed vaguely possible, but then Jasper’s brain caught up and he realized Sage was just fucking with him. If any of the Lucas brothers was anything but straight it would be Aaron, Jasper was pretty sure. He’d probably confessed his bisexuality to the wrong uncle. Aaron had played a lot of sports in school though, from what Jasper had been told, so an old teammate made much more sense. Jasper snickered a bit into his cup before he took another swallow. Getting drunk for all this shit definitely felt like the smart thing to do, especially hanging around with a guy he’d traded blowjobs with, in full view of Jules. He was itching to light up the joint in his pocket too, but he didn’t bring enough to share with many people, so he was waiting on that one. “Old friends who’ve definitely showered in the same room at least, yeah,” he agreed with a little smirk. His gaze ticked back to Sage. “Didn’t think you guys were at the wedding-date level yet, huh?”
“Yeah, the categorization of American football as a heterosexual norm is just bizarre on so many levels,” Sage grinned. He’d never played a sport, but he’d witnessed enough of the antics surrounding them to question the sexuality of just about everyone. Not that he would. But Marsh was proof that looks could be deceiving. “Yeah, I mean, that’s a thing, right? I guess it’s not as big a deal since his family’s not here, but it’s his friends, and I’m—I’m not—I’m not his norm.” Marsh might’ve been with other guys before Sage, but Sage knew he wasn’t the kind of date Marsh’s friends from home were used to seeing him with. It wasn’t just that he was a guy; they were drastically different, so much so that most people wouldn’t understand how they could work, but they did.
