Gavin & Mila
The day was everything Mila hoped it would be. The weather had been beautiful for the ceremony and everyone seemed to be having a great time now. The marina’s venue that Caius had “gifted’ her for the reception was gorgeous and Mila couldn’t stop thanking her mother, aunt and Roxy for all the work they had put into it. There was music and dancing now and Mila’s feet were beginning to ache a bit. She was grateful for all the people who came to celebrate with her and Aaron today, but eventually Mila began to feel a bit suffocated, so she slipped out of the hall, eager to get some fresh air and catch her breath.
Pushing through the back doors, Mila stepped outside and inhaled the salty ocean air before lowering herself onto one of the stone benches nearby. It was then she noticed Gavin. He was standing several feet away, a cigarette in his hand. He hadn’t noticed her yet, but when he did, she offered him a small smile. He was definitely not the type to be inside throwing his hands up to Miley Cyrus. But he had shown up today and had stood beside Aaron without complaint, so Mila supposed she could be appreciative of that.
“Having fun?” she asked. It was a lame question, but it was all Mila could think of at the moment.
Gavin had been busting his ass making sure everything went perfectly. He owed that to Mila and more and he wanted his brother to be happy. He'd been watching the known problem makers in Aaron's friends' group like a hawk, ready to strike before trouble started - the same went for the possible drama between Caden's ladies - former and present. He felt like a damn referee, reading minds and moving things that might at some point catch on fire, metaphorically speaking. That included himself though and he knew that if he didn't take breaks, he'd be the liability he was so worried about. His heart dropped a bit when Mila came outside, like he was getting caught doing something he wasn't. That was pretty much how he felt around her all the time though, for good reason. The question wasn't so much lame as it was difficult because he couldn't really say he was having fun, but it was a beautiful wedding and he was happy on some level. "Yeah," he said hoarsely, giving her one of his trademark pained Gavin smiles. "Are you?"
"Fun" and Gavin was the epitome of oxymoron in Mila's eyes. But she appreciated that he was willing to lie to her on her wedding day. Not that he hadn't lied in the past, but still. The baby moved and Mila rested her hand instinctively on her stomach, her eyes still focused on Gavin. "As much fun as a woman can have at her wedding while she's six months pregnant." Mila chuckled and shielded her eyes from the sun with her other hand. "No, but really, it's been a blast. Aaron seems to be having a great time, which is all I wanted today. Thanks for being there for him today. I know the Lucas boys aren't big fans of suits and ties."
"We're willing to make exceptions," Gavin replied. Weddings and funerals, at the very least. "And we'll always be there for family." He took a deep drag of his cigarette, not sure if he should say the things he was thinking, if Mila would use any of them against him. She hadn't retaliated or been cruel, but he kept waiting for it and she was well within her rights for it. "That makes you too, now," he finally decided to tell her, glancing over to her again, making sure the smoke wasn't wafting in her direction. "So if you need anything, don't hesitate to ask."
