Adrian watched those deft hands as Kane got the key ready, a warm kind of pleasure rushing through him. He couldn't really name it, would probably romanticize it as something beautiful later on, but in all honesty it was probably just a sense of victory that Kane trusted him and loved him this much. "I wouldn't dream of coming here unannounced," he said as he pocketed the key. There was more than one reason for that, he didn't really want to run into Kane's side piece - whether it was a lady or a gun. "And I wouldn't dream of rearranging your cabinets either," he added with some amusement. "That mess is all yours to take care of." Not that there was much of a mess in the first place, Kane's place was pretty bare - not messy. "Just don't give me a reason to barge in here all worried about you, okay?" he added. "Pick up the phone, text me back, don't disappear. I'll find you." It was both a threat and a promise and he knew Kane knew that as well as he did - he also knew Kane didn't mind it either way at this point.
Between them, threats and promises were all tangled up anyway, so Kane felt it as it was intended. It was so weird to have someone in his face who actually cared about him -- he knew in his brain that his sister cared if he lived or died, but he and Bailey were so removed from each other, even when they were living in the same town. Adrian was so real and present so often, that care was starting to sneak through his walls like he was a drafty castle. It wasn’t a cold draft though, it was warm and inviting and probably dangerous because of it. Part of Kane told him not to get too comfortable with it all, because tonight had all but proven he wasn’t equipped to be a very good partner, so this thing had to have a time limit on it. He could just be grateful that Adrian still wanted to find him, until he didn’t. “I hope you do,” he murmured, brushing his knuckles over Adrian’s cheek. “I’ll never disappear on purpose.”
Adrian shifted in his seat and cupped Kane's face with both hands, letting that possessive feeling rush through him again. "Don't disappear at all," he murmured and then leaned in to kiss him, briefly but firmly on the lips. "Try to get some sleep," he said as he pulled back, dropping one hand to give Kane's thigh a gentle squeeze before getting up. "I'll see you tomorrow." He knew he would make time, even with how busy the day was going to get. If he gave a shit when he was like this, he wasn't even sure how to quantify how shitty he was going to feel when he woke up. It was almost annoying to think about, like doing something while drunk and vaguely knowing he was going to regret it the next day and yet being unable to fully grasp the concept of it.
Kane didn’t think he was in any direct danger of someone else disappearing him, but who really knew. He’d definitely made some enemies in his life. He couldn’t deny that being with Adrian made him feel safer, even when he was dying to do the protecting himself. Kane just loved the man intensely, even when he was an uncaring sexy asshole monster man like this ... though he hadn’t let Kane storm away down the road in the middle of the night, and he’d taken the time to patch Kane’s arm up properly, so how little did he actually care? Maybe he should view this as more of a Mood Adrian got into, just like he’d been in a particular mood when the day began. “I love you,” Kane told him, reaching out to touch his hand again before he got too far away. “Take care of yourself tonight.”
"Of course," Adrian said and he had no fear when he was like this, which was probably not a healthy approach, there were still things out there that could hurt him, he just didn't believe he'd run into any of them - at least not anytime soon. He felt too antsy now to stick around longer so he headed out, giving Kane one more grin over his shoulder before he opened the door. "Go to sleep, Kane," he murmured, and then shedded that forced slowness with which he had been moving as soon as he stepped outside.
