Re: Ruby and Logan
"Compared to a werewolf? I'd definitely be boring," Logan said. But he was glad for that, really. He saw how much shit Jasper had to deal with. This town traumatized everyone and it had to be worse for anyone who might be something else. He felt semi-removed from it all which was both a blessing and a curse. "What's an incubus?" he asked after another swig of his beer. "I thought that was a band."
“It is a band,” Ruby agreed. “But it’s also a demon that fucks to feed. Like a vampire needs blood.” It sounded so outlandish that she was pretty sure she was wading into mythology and horror movie tropes. For some reason she could believe in witches or even werewolves, but she crossed the line at vampires and an incubus was one step beyond that. She wasn’t even sure where she’d come across it—probably while researching mythological creatures for some school project. Her mind was full of all kinds of useless knowledge.
Logan’s eyes widened. “Fucks to feed? Damn. That’s a job I’d take. Without the demon part, I think. Weird.” There was so much he didn’t know about “other stuff”. Could it all be real? Jasper had seen creepy kids with black eyes before. And now he was a human GPS. These were things he tried not to think about too much, lest his brain explode. “So… you’re sayin’ that maybe it’s possible that dude over there is an incubus and we’d never know it unless he showed up to get laid and feed off of us?” Logan asked gesturing to some random guy refilling his beer cup.
“I mean, maybe,” Ruby grinned, looking over at the guy in question. “I assume they look human, otherwise it’d be harder to score, right?” She took a seat in the sand, suddenly tired of standing, and tugged on Logan’s shorts to encourage him to join her. “Honestly, I don’t know if they’re real. Or what it would even mean to feed. Like, would it drain me like a vampire would? Or would I just be completely blitzed out afterwards? Do they have some kind of pheromone that attracts people to them? Or would that dude starve if he’s not smooth enough?” She watched the guy in question for a moment, a laugh bubbling up in her chest. “I think he’d go home hungry.”
Logan blinked a couple of times as Ruby plopped down to the sand. For a second he thought she was passing out, but she still looked conscious and she was tugging at his shorts so he sat, relieved that he didn't have to suddenly worry about Ruby passing out. Once he was comfortable, he took another drink, snorting unceremoniously at Ruby's observation. "If they're a demon I bet they can look however they want. So they're probably hot. I wonder if it's good sex? Like, you gotta make it worth it for them, right? You're feeding off of them somehow, so you gotta make sure they get theirs, it's only right! Sex with a demon. Now I'm all curious."
“I dunno that demons are inherently shape shifters,” Ruby said, taking a sip of her drink. “I don’t even know if that’s a thing. Fuck, can you imagine?” She didn’t like the idea that someone could change the way they looked, that she couldn’t trust what her eyes were telling her. But she no longer knew where reality ended and fantasy began. After all the stories she’d heard and what she’d personally been through, anything seemed possible. “I’d think they’d have to get their partner off to feed, so it’s gotta be good,” she said, hopping back on that train of thought. “It can’t just be about themselves, otherwise they could just jerk off.”
"Yeah, but demons could be shapeshifters," Logan pointed out. "Or they can possess people, right? So maybe that's how they do it." It was a weird conversation but probably not out of the realm of possibility. There were fog monsters, so why not demons? He grinned as he took another drink of beer. "Yeah, demons who jerk off to survive. Sounds like a horrible way to live. But you're probably right. You think if I leave my window open tonight I might get a visit?" He cocked a dark brow and smirked at Ruby. "Or is that too morbid?"
