Re: Nic & Lem
That coy look on his face was adorable, and Lem kept grinning at him as she took another small bite of brownie. “No!” she answered with a laugh, nudging him back with her elbow. “Why would it? That’d be stupid. No, I think it’s hot, honestly.” Lem’s grin turned wicked and she quirked her eyebrows up a thim suggestively. Not that she thought they were going to invite some pretty boy into bed with them anytime soon, but the mental picture she was getting of Nic kissing one was fun to entertain. For as many issues as Lem had with men, they were still sexy to her, especially in situations where no woman could get hurt.
“Good,” Nic snickered. “I didn’t think it would, but you never know. I’ve known girls who thought I might leave them for a guy, which… I dunno. Doesn’t make any sense to me.” If he’d been a hundred percent straight, wouldn’t it still be plausible that he might leave them for another girl? Being bisexual didn’t make him unable to handle monogamy. But he’d never really seen Lem as the kind of person to be worried about something like that. They didn’t often talk about their relationship and its status, but he thought she knew he wasn’t interested in anyone else—he hadn’t been even when she was physically and mentally unavailable and he definitely wasn’t now.
She rolled her eyes dramatically. “Then they’re stupid,” Lem declared. The idea of Nic leaving her for someone else never really crossed Lem’s mind. Maybe that made her weird or something, she didn’t know. Her insecurities lay more in the realm of Nic realizing she was psycho and leaving her for that. But he’d stuck by her for this long, through one of the worst times in her life, so she didn’t worry about it too much. Lem knew she couldn’t predict the future, so she would just see what happened. She broke off a piece of the pot brownie and held it up close to Nic’s mouth so he could have some. “Come on, let’s get closer to the fire, and the pretty boys,” she said with a grin.
One thing about Nic that some people didn’t realize—he was loyal, probably to a fault. There was no way he would have left Lem at her lowest, even if it would’ve been better for him. He cared too much for her to do such a thing. And now that she was better, they were better. Maybe not back to where they’d been before, but getting there, day by day, and night by night. Tonight felt like a step closer to normality, even if nothing about it was what anyone else would consider normal. He smiled as he took a bite of the offered brownie, letting his lips linger on her fingers. The boys might be pretty, but his only real interest was there in his arms.
