Re: Shane & Toby
Shane laughed at the confession and wondered if that was true or if Toby was just joking. It seemed like a weird thing to joke about so he squinted at him as he considered. "I could do without the exaggerations and lies," he told him. "It's probably crazy enough without them. Maybe I'll ask one of my new witchy friends instead." Or he could ask all of them and only believe what they all told him and discard anything that didn't add up between them. "Will you tell me the truth if we're very relaxed with some good drinks in us?"
Toby visually pouted, like a rejected toddler, and immediately decided that it was better to lie about himself when it came to Shane. He could handle the truth about Point Pleasant, maybe, but he needed to see the good, shiny, squeaky side of Toby, even if it meant it was partially fake. That was okay. It was a role he was used to playing. “Cross my heart and hope to die,” he said, drawing a little X over his chest. “Your new witchy friends will verify everything. They might even be able to fill in the gaps. There’s so much even I don’t understand.” And some of it, he kind of hoped he never would.
"Then we should definitely meet over drinks," Shane said with a grin. Without Reza, he decided. He wasn't sure he was ready for him to hear everything Toby might have to say. "You also never told me about who you brought to my house," he added and cocked a brow suggestively. "Did you have fun while I was away?" The place had been left clean, that was all he really cared about, but it was fun to get a little gossip that wasn't related to AIR or the weirdness of Point Pleasant, something more... Pleasant.
“It was kind of a first date,” Toby grinned, bouncing a little on his toes. “A really long, really good first date. It was that weekend where no one could sleep, so we were up all night, you know? His name’s Zach. He’s from around here. I’m actually seeing him again tomorrow.” And while Toby expected it to be loads of fun, he was hoping that they might actually get to sleep at the end of it. After fun in the bed, of course. “It’s new, so he doesn’t really know what I can do, but that’s—that’s always hard to bring up. I usually avoid it, if I can.”
Not a saucy one - or two - night stand then. Shane could relate to not telling people what he could do. It wasn't worth the hassle and it really wasn't anyone's business but his own. "He doesn't need to know," he said with a playful wrinkle of his nose. "What they don't know won't hurt them. You don't want him to get involved with all this bullshit we're dealing with." He thought of Reza and the intensely mixed feelings he had about him being here. On one hand, he wasn't ready for Reza to leave but on the other, the threat of him getting hurt or worse loomed over Shane all the damn time.
“Oh hell, no,” Toby said, eyes wide with emphasis. “That’s the kind of shit that scares people off. I’ve got enough of that in general, no need to pile in on thick.” He’d only ever told two people about his time at AIR and both were rare situations with people he wasn’t trying to date. Things were going really well with Zach, but they were still so new that he didn’t want to do anything to risk it. He also couldn’t figure out a way to tell him about AIR and not his abilities, so he had to be ready to lay it all on the table. Maybe they’d get to it someday, but Toby was hoping that was in the far distant future. “At least Reza’s got his own thing going on, so maybe it didn’t seem quite so jarring?”
"Oh I didn't tell him," Shane said with a wry smile. "Jane did." It was plenty clear what he thought of that as he quirked his brows and huffed. Yes, he was still salty about it, even if it had ended up working out perfectly. "So don't tell her you're seeing someone if you don't want your secrets spilled." He knew it was because he'd brought Reza with him that she'd told him everything, she read that whole situation as serious and took it upon herself to wrangle Reza into their mess.
