Spending over twenty-four hours in the car on a werewolf road trip would be a last resort, but at least Carson knew he had somewhere safe he could return to if he needed it. He would make the drive without question if it meant keeping Rylee -- and the general population -- safe. They would at least know a lot more after the next full moon, and for the first time since being attacked by a monster in the dark, Carson was kind of looking forward to it. He wanted to know that he had control. He’d felt so helpless because of so many things in the past year or so, this was finally some good news. Carson glanced between them, still grinning. “I don’t listen to anybody but her anyway,” he said with a chuckle. “Might as well be a were-mule, I’m so stubborn. It was good to see you, Vex. Take care of yourself, okay? I’ll be in touch for sure.”
Rylee was definitely ready to leave. She considered going next door to see if Zania was home, but that could wait. They weren't leaving town right that minute and she would have time to say goodbye to her friend. Right now she wanted to talk to Carson and process everything that had happened. She murmured her own goodbye to Vex and started for the door, eager for the fresh air. Spotting the drying coffee on her car made her groan and she wished she had that coffee waiting for her in the car. Caffeine was definitely needed at the moment. Rylee let the two men finish up their goodbyes as she headed for the car, pulling the keys from her pocket.
Vex grinned at Carson's words and it made him wonder if Lem was the only person he would listen to if he was in Carson's situation. Probably. There had never been a lot of people in his life who got through to him like she did, just a handful each decade and the number seemed to shrink steadily with every decade that went by. He didn't let Carson leave without a hug, patting his back firmly before letting go.
Finally sensing that he was in trouble -- or at least that Rylee was upset -- Carson gave Vex a tight hug in return. Before he pulled all the way back, he cupped the older man’s face in his hands and gave his forehead a solid smooch. As a wolf, he’d licked Vex fairly often, so it didn’t feel out of place. Flashing him one more wordless grin, he headed out the door to follow Rylee and hopefully convince her that this incident had actually been a good thing.
