Theo and Phee
It was good that it was good and normal, although he hated to think of what might happen if Phee and Greg broke up. But that was someone else's drama and none of his business. Hopefully Bash wouldn't lose his best friend in the process. "Good and normal is definitely good," Theo said, voicing some of his thoughts out loud. His dark brows drew together thoughtfully, trying to recall back several months when they had met. "Uh, well... he almost ran me over in the middle of the street, so maybe that was the start of it? That was... January, I think? Um, then we just hung out at a party and... you know." He shrugged, not wanting to go into details. "I'm kind of hoping to move out into a place of my own soon. My mom's got a boathouse at the pier that I may try to take over for the summer. We'll see."
Considering how drama-free their relationship had been so far -- socially drama-free anyway, they’d been through a good dose of Point Pleasant-generated stress -- Phee didn’t expect things to go that sideways between them. Even if they did break up in the future for some reason, she couldn’t see it being some huge blowout that would ruin Greg and Bash’s friendship. It was something she gave a lot of thought to sometimes, when she wasn’t fully entrenched in ‘we’re gonna get married and be together forever’ land. Phee listened to Theo, huffing a soft laugh and nodding a bit, pushing away the old annoyance that Bash hadn’t told her anything about him for months. They’d been Going Through Stuff. “That’s a meet-cute if I ever heard one,” Phee said, smiling. “That would be awesome though. Has he met your mom yet? Ours is back home now, but I don’t know if Bash has told her anything yet ...”
Theo laughed. "A meet cute that nearly ended up with me pinned under his car. But yeah, it works. Uh, as for my mom, no, not really. I mean, he's been around when she's been in the house, but they haven't met officially. She knows your parents though, so... I don't think she'll be too weirded out by it." He had to assume his mom would prefer that if Theo wanted to date guys too, he would date someone she would approve of and he was guessing Sebastian McCarthy would be one of those guys. "I heard about your mom. How's that going? Are things getting back to normal?"
It sounded like Theo’s mom was less homophobic than James, so that was a good thing. Their father seemed to have come to terms with the fact that his middle son was gay, but Phee still didn’t want Sebastian to have to stress over a boyfriend’s family also disapproving of their relationship. He had enough stress. She smiled a little over the obvious fact that Bash was a good catch from a good family -- it was funny how that concept never really applied to herself in her own mind. “It’s going okay,” she answered with a shrug, glancing around them as they moved along the dance floor. “Definitely more normal than when she was gone, but I dunno if I’d say normal-normal. It hasn’t been long and she didn’t remember who she was for a while. But we’re happy to have her back.”
Theo nodded, because he really didn't know what else to say about it. She didn't know Mrs. McCarthy all that well beyond the times she came over for dinner or attended a party. But he knew Bash was happy she was back. The song came to an end and Theo smiled at Phee. "Thanks for the dance. Maybe we'll catch you both at the after party in Overlook?" He knew of at least one party and since this was Point Pleasant, he assumed everyone would be going there.
Phee let go of Theo and backed up a step, giving him a bright smile. He seemed okay, more mature than Hunter Barrett had been, and that was probably a good thing. She hoped he and Bash could make each other happy. Gods knew they all needed more of that around here. “Yeah I think that’s the plan!” she said cheerily. “Later!” Phee wiggled her fingers at him in a little wave, and turned to head off to find her wayward date.
