Sebastian hadn’t confirmed to her that he was seeing Theo until after the prom invite, apparently, and then he’d asked her to keep it quiet, so she had. What was it with non-straight boys wanting to come out at dances? It was so adorably dramatic. Phee was just happy that her brother was seeing somebody and that he’d been smiley when he talked about Theo. It seemed premature to think that things were really turning around for them and their family, but Phee still had hope. “Me too,” she agreed with Greg, giving a light laugh. “I mean, I wouldn't put it that way, but ... I want him to have fun. We all deserve some fucking fun, right?” At the refreshment table, she picked up a plastic cup of punch and smiled at Greg. “Especially you, this is like, your last prom! Do you have any special desires or anything?” Phee bounced her eyebrows a bit and grinned.
"So many," Greg said back suggestively and laughed but the question stirred something in him that made him a little nervous. He was going to miss high school, at least the dances and the sports, and most people seemed to hate high school with a passion or something. Did that mean he was one of those assholes who peaked in high school? God he hoped not. "For now I just wanna dance with my girl," he told her as he grabbed a drink for himself. "Because she's the most beautiful girl in here." He caught her free hand and gently tugged her closer. If they stayed together, which he hoped they did, this might not be his very last prom at least.
“Aww, flatterer,” Phee accused in a way that clearly said she didn’t mind in the slightest. She sidled up next to Greg, slipping her free arm around his back. Her heels made her taller than him, but neither of them seemed to care. Gods, she loved him, and she did want him to be her date to her senior prom, but Phee had decided not to talk about the future tonight. She just wanted to enjoy this, and there were so many potential potholes in those conversations. She drained what was in her cup and tossed it into the nearby trash, then gave Greg a smile. “Ready to go show up everybody else on the dance floor?”
All the girls Greg had been with in the past - not as many as some thought, to be fair - had been smaller than him in every way, small, dainty and fragile even with heels on. He loved that Phee was none of those things, at least not physically. She stood tall and strong in her heels, royal in a way and Greg knew for sure more guys were into her than dared to admit it. Fashion was so weird, dictating something like that. Her smile lit up the room if you asked him and he smiled back with a firm nod before downing his own drink and tossing the cup. He'd keep an eye out for Bash but for now he was happy to focus on Phee, get a few dances in before finding somewhere to sit. He was willing to bet there were some reserved seats for them around if any of his friends were already there.
Dancing with Greg made it easy to forget the family drama from earlier in the day. Phee’s current intention was to still be with him by the time her own senior prom rolled around the next year, but she was smart enough to know that wasn’t a guarantee, so she did her best to relish every moment. After a few dances they mingled with friends, finally catching up to Sebastian and Theo, and Phee found Jen -- who looked stunning in her offbeat way, of course. There was talking and laughing and even though she lost track of Greg and his buddies for a little while, Phee didn’t mind. She was having a great time.
