Ethan and Jules
Jules wasn't entirely sure what she wanted to do. She looked the part, but she didn't really feel it. That was really strange for someone like her, who was used to being the center of attention. Who liked being the center of attention. Now she just wanted to hang out with a few people and have fun, hopefully without any drama. People were already on the dance floor so Jules led Ethan there, deliberately keeping her focus on him instead of the people around them. "I should have had more vodka," Jules said, lifting her arms around his neck. "But I promise I'll be more fun tonight."
"You're fine," Ethan smiled. "Stop worrying about entertaining me. You're making me worry that I'm no fun." He wasn't actually worried about anything, but he was hoping he could distract her long enough for her to get outside her head and enjoy herself. He didn't know any of these people, so it was hard for him to care what they thought of him beyond how it reflected on Jules. But he knew she cared on some level, even if it would all end in the next few weeks. "We can always pop back outside for another round of shots," he offered. "We can even invite the guys, if you want. I don't mind sharing."
Jules gave that some thought with a small smile. "Maybe we can do that after we dance. Even if they don't want shots, I'll do another." And maybe another. That would definitely get her through the night. Maybe when they announced prom queen she could disappear. Especially if Vic ended up winning. Jules paused and then smiled up at Ethan. "And you are fun, I promise. I wouldn't be here tonight with you if you weren't. Well, fun is part of it. It was really nice of you to show up to bring me, especially when you didn't know for sure I would even want to. So thanks. And I promise I won't say that all night, but just so you know."
“It’s really okay,” Ethan smiled. “I get it though. You don’t have to keep saying it.” It was nice to be appreciated, but he didn’t want her to feel like she had to keep reiterating herself. At this point he really just wanted her to have fun, not worry herself with him. “So, is there anyone we’re actively avoiding? Songs that we should step outside for or something like that? I’m gonna go ahead and tell you I won’t do the chicken dance. I’m way too tall to be a chicken. But I could probably be talked into the Cha-Cha Slide, if you like those kinds of things.” He doubted they’d play either of them, but he just wanted to see if he could get her to laugh. And even if they did, it didn’t matter much to him if he made a fool of himself in front of strangers, but he didn’t want to embarrass Jules and wouldn’t be doing any of it unless she joined him.
