Re: Ruby & Clint
Dancing was one of the things that had brought them together in the first place and Ruby enjoyed every chance they got to do it. It didn't matter if it was a house party or dressed in their best at prom, Ruby pressed herself against Clint and began to dance as if there were no one else in the room. It was so easy to lose herself in being with him, especially when she had a good buzz, and she smiled at him before leaning in for a kiss. She knew logically that this would have to end at some point, but that wasn't something she wanted to dwell on. Clint made her happy in a way that all the other guys she'd dated hadn't. That mattered more than the differences between them, details that always seemed unimportant when they were alone together, even in a crowded room.
Clint knew there were chaperones around, teachers intent on making sure nobody started fucking on the dance floor or fell down too drunk or whatever, but he didn’t give them a second thought as he danced with his girl. If they got fussed at, whatever. There was a good crowd around them of other kids doing the same, but Clint was hardly aware of them. His own world had narrowed to Ruby and how she felt moving against him. Clint was more than happy to kiss her when she went for his lips, the hand he had on her lower back pressing in more firmly. There were going to be more sappy slow songs here than there usually were at house parties, and Clint wanted to take advantage of the sexy fun ones, so he and Ruby would be nice and keyed up by the time they left. He had some fun plans for them.
It was hard to pull herself away from him, but few more dances like that and Ruby would be ready to leave before the party really got underway. It made her glad when the music turned to one of those sappy slow songs, just so she could slow herself down a bit. She stayed close to Clint, of course, but brought the intensity down as she started to sway with him to the music. “It’s so weird to think that school’s almost over. Like, I feel like I’ve been waiting for it for forever, but it’s gonna be weird when it’s gone, you know?” She’d be fine with most of it, but she knew she’d miss seeing all her friends on a daily basis. And she didn’t even want to think about going off to college yet. That was coming, but it wouldn’t feel real until she was packing her bags and ready to go. That was still months away.
“Yeah totally,” Clint agreed with a huffed laugh. With his hand settled on the small of Ruby’s back, he swayed along with her. The sexier songs were fun, but it was nice to cool off for a few minutes in between. He’d worn some good boxer briefs to cut down on the potential for embarrassment, but still. “I gotta start looking for a summer job. It’ll feel so weird not to be going to practice or doing homework or anything.” Clint knew all of that would pick up again in college, but it would be Different. That was the point, but it was still strange to think about from where he was. He was used to being popular and accomplished in his own space, big fish in a small pond, as they said. He was a little nervous about starting over somewhere completely new, but tonight wasn’t the night to worry about it.
“It’ll be kind of nice though. No obligations except the ones you choose. And work isn’t bad when there’s money in your pocket,” Ruby smiled. The only spending cash she’d ever had was the cash she earned for herself, so it didn’t occur to her that might not be the case for Clint, growing up in Overlook. Even though it was a detail she’d always known, it didn’t define him in her head like it had when they’d met. He was so much more than that now. “Any idea where you want to work?” She asked, her fingers running through the hair on the back of his neck. Even if it was just a summer job, if he was going to be spending a lot of time there, he might as well try and enjoy it.
