Who: Jules and Jasper
When: afternoon into evening, Sunday, Dec 31st
Where: The marina, then out and about
Status: Complete
Warning: Turns NSFW
When Jasper finally woke up, he was full of regret. Even though he’d tried his best to stay stoned and calm, he remembered every detail of the day before. He’d just felt so downright crazy with ... something. Restlessness, anger, Jasper hadn’t been able to really define it ... his temper had been even more volatile and he’d gotten pissy with Jules and Amelia both. Then he’d gone out to vandalize some empty houses with Logan, which had made him feel somewhat better while they were doing it, but the relief hadn’t lasted long. He’d been happy to fall right to sleep once it got dark out.
But now he was awake again and aware of what an asshole he’d been. Jasper reluctantly got up and took a shower, careful not to get his wound wet. It itched like the devil, and it already looked like it was healing, so that was probably a good sign. He hoped so, anyway. After he’d had a cigarette and gotten something to eat and puttered around for a little while, he went back to his room and sat down on the bed with his phone. After taking a deep breath or two, Jasper tapped the screen to call Jules and put the phone to his ear. She deserved a better apology than a text.
Jules wasn't really sure what her plans were for the night. She wasn't exactly feeling celebratory, and there was so much bullshit happening that Jules thought about just staying home and going to bed early. Which was so unlike her that it was kind of annoying how quickly she was willing to bend and hide. It didn't help that her mom was constantly on the phone, checking in with Jason, and Edward's extended family and then the police. Margaret had been confused and then worried when Jules told her what happened - or rather, the lies she had come up with. Her mom had been too worried about her husband to pay much attention to Jules, for which Jules was thankful. It didn't make anything better, only slightly more tolerable.
The Sheriff had come by the night before and asked a lot of questions. A couple of times Jules felt like he knew she was lying, and the fear had caused her to seize up. He had stared far too long at the infinity scarf around her neck but he hadn't asked her to remove it. In any case, Edward was a missing person and they were looking for him. Jules had no idea if they would find him or not, but she was selfishly hoping they wouldn't.
But today she was feeling anxious and grouchy. She might have called Jasper, but she had done that yesterday and he had been kind of a dick on the phone. Jules wasn't sure what his deal was, but she had hung up on him when he had snapped at her, so now she was just laying in bed, trying to decide if she felt like going to the marina later with her friends or not. It felt weird to pretend to be happy and carefree when everything felt so shitty.
When her phone began to ring, Jules reached over to grab it from her nightstand. She frowned, not terribly surprised to see it was Jasper. Jules debated letting it go to voicemail, just to punish him a bit, but after the last couple of days, he didn't deserve that. Sighing, Jules answered and laid back on her bed.
"Hi," she said, trying not to sound too sullen, but not being entirely successful.
She didn’t sound happy, and Jasper winced a tiny bit on his side of the call. Of course she wasn’t happy, everything was crazy and she was under an incredible amount of stress and her dumbass boyfriend couldn’t even keep his irritability in check for one day. “Hey babe,” Jasper murmured, flopping back onto his blankets. He gazed up at the ceiling and tried to think of something to say that wouldn’t make it all worse. “How are you doing? Anything new going on over there?” Jules had kept him updated on what the situation was like with her mom and then the cops, and so far it all sounded like it was going in their favor. As much as it could, anyway.
How was she doing? Not great and his attitude the day before hadn't helped. Jules wanted to snap - or hang up - but he had been there for her when she really needed him to be, even after he had gotten hurt. Maybe his irritability had stemmed from shoulder pain. She didn't know. Jules licked her lips and closed her eyes. "Nothing new," she murmured. "Mom's been calling people. Sheriff Barrett came over last night to ask questions and look around. I don't... he asked me a lot of stuff, sometimes more than once, but like... in a different? You know, trying to make sure my answers stayed the same, I guess. I don't know if he believed me or not." Jules paused and then cleared her throat. "I think everything is going to be okay though. How are you feeling?"
Jasper didn’t really like the sound of Barrett asking Jules a bunch of questions to try and trip her up, but there was nothing to be done about it. The guy was doing his job, and maybe he’d been doing it to all kinds of other people too. From what Jasper had been hearing, there were a lot of people missing or dead now. It had been a relief to not get the news that they’d found Edward’s body; hopefully that was gone for good. “Even if he’s suspicious, they’ve got no proof,” he murmured to Jules. “Don’t they say on TV all the time that it’s not a murder without a body? Just stay strong, you’ll be okay.” He let that settle for a moment, then took a deeper breath. “I’m really sorry about yesterday ... I dunno what kinda bug was up my ass, but it was just ... a bad day. I didn’t mean to take it out on you.”
Jules thought that some people went to jail even without a body, but she didn't know for sure and she didn't want to know. She wanted to forget everything that had happened. Jasper's reassurance helped calm her some and Jules rolled onto her side, nestling her phone to her ear. His apology for the day before sounded sincere and Jules decided she wanted to get over it rather than be pissy about it like she had last time. There was too much going on to waste time being mad at her boyfriend. "It's okay," she murmured. "You didn't really sound like yourself. I mean... at least not since the summer." Because he had been pissy with her before, when they were just fucking. And she had been pissy with him. It was just how they were, until the whole Feelings thing. "Do you feel better today?"
Had he been that bad to her over the summer? Jasper supposed he probably had. It seemed like years ago now. Still, the mood had felt unnatural, more intense restless agitation than he could remember having before, except maybe on the worst days of puberty. But Jules had only gotten a small piece of it, so he guessed he could see the comparison. Not that it mattered now, it was over. Everybody had some bad days, right? At least she didn’t seem to be really pissed about it. “Yeah, so far,” he said, then sighed a bit. “My fuckin’ shoulder itches like hell, but I guess that’s a good thing, like it’s healing.” He paused for a moment, then added, softer, “I miss you though.”
Jules was just too tired and worried to be really pissed off at him. If this had been a normal day and nothing horrible had happened, she probably would have spent the entire weekend ignoring him, just because. But he was the only one other than Ruby that she could seek comfort in and she didn't want to be angry anymore. Jules frowned at the thought of his wound healing already. It had been what, three days? Was that normal? "I miss you too," Jules said. "I'm sorry your shoulder itches... but I guess it's better than it really hurting still. Do you want to maybe do something later? If you feel like getting out. I think if I have to stay here all day I might go crazy."
Jasper kind of wished it still hurt more than it itched, because he could take stuff for pain, but not the urge to scratch all of his skin off. He needed a distraction, and Jules was the best kind, even just talking to her. “There’s fireworks and shit at the marina ... do you wanna go?” he asked. It was New Year’s Eve, after all, even if he was sure most people in town didn’t feel like celebrating. It was still a holiday. Maybe they could sneak some booze and a blunt and get wasted. “I mean, we can get out way earlier, of course, I just mean later,” he added, so she didn’t think he didn’t want to see her until right before midnight or something.
Jules would much rather ring in the New Year with Jasper than her mom, or her friends. She knew how mean that probably was, but she wouldn't have to pretend around Jasper. She was also of the mind that maybe they could get drunk and try to have fun. "Yeah, let's do that," she said. "Are you feeling up to going out? Do you want me to come over or anything?" It was still cold out, but Jules didn't mind going somewhere either. Getting out of the house sounded really good at the moment, if only to get away from her mom's questions.
“Yeah, pretty sure I’ll be up to it. I want to chill for a bit before we go anywhere, but you can come over whenever you want to,” he told her without hesitation. “Dad’s not here, it’s a big night for the bar, and I think Amelia’s sleeping ...” Jasper wasn’t sure, he hadn’t heard her moving around much. Mentioning his sister reminded him about what her situation had been during the fog, and he made a mental note to tell Jules about it, since she had plenty of reason to hate Elodie too. It also reminded him that he owed Amelia an apology too. Maybe he could squeeze that in before Jules arrived.
Jules wondered if her mom would freak out if Jules left the house for most of the day. Probably, but it wasn't like she could keep Jules here. The police had come and gone and now all they could do was wait. Unfortunately, her mom would be waiting forever. Which was a morbid thought. Honestly, Jules had a feeling Margaret would have no trouble "moving on" once it became clear Edward wasn't coming back. "I'm going to change and then I'll drive over," Jules said. "Are you hungry? Want me to bring you anything?" Keeping busy felt like a good distraction. So did just hanging out with Jasper, even if they lounged around his house for most of the day. She just needed to make sure she brought anything she might need for the marina later. The fog was gone, but it was still pretty cold outside.
“Sure, uh ... some burgers from Moxie’s, maybe?” Jasper suggested. He’d eaten since he got up, but he was always lowkey hungry at least, and having a late lunch with Jules sounded pretty awesome. He was glad she was coming over early -- it would be beyond nice just to hang out with her for a while like a normal fucking couple. One that didn’t have to dodge fog monsters or clean up after untimely deaths. For however long Point Pleasant would let them feel normal, Jasper wanted to indulge. “Then we can just chill and get rested for a night of partying,” he added, forcing some optimism into his voice. They would have a good time, goddammit. They deserved one.
"I can do that," Jules said. She assumed that Moxie's was back up and running now that the fog had been gone a couple of days. She really had no clue what had been damaged and what hadn't. She'd barely left her house since the fog disappeared. But this gave her an excuse to get up, get dressed and look cute. Especially for New Year's. She might not feel great, but alcohol and pot should help that problem. And Jasper. "Give me like... twenty minutes or whatever, depending on how long the wait is at Moxie's, then I'll be over, okay? And like, text me if Amelia wants anything." Jules had no idea if Amelia was there, or awake, or anything, but Jules would feel bad if she showed up with food and nothing for Jasper's sister.
It didn’t even occur to Jasper that Moxie’s might be closed because Moxie’s almost never closed. He realized hadn’t even had any since before the fog, that was where he and Logan had meant to end up before everything went to hell. Maybe that was why he had a craving for it now. The fact that Jules thought of Amelia made Jasper smile a bit. That was sweet. “I will,” he said first. “Well ... I mean, she usually loves the chicken fingers if you just wanna grab some anyway. And a chocolate milkshake. She’ll eat it eventually, and I’ll pay you back for it.” He knew Jules would probably dismiss that offer, but he had to make it anyway. “Just text me when you get here.”
"It's okay, I've got it," Jules said as she sat up to scoot off the bed. She knew Jasper would pay her back if she asked him too, but she knew he didn't have another job yet. And even though she didn't work, Jules still had more money than he did, so she didn't mind buying him and his sister food. It was the least she could do for him after what he had done for her. Jules knew she could never pay him back properly for helping cover up Edward's death, but she would try anyway. "I'll see you soon."
Jasper didn’t feel like Jules owed him anything. She was his girl and he loved her and she’d been in trouble, so he’d stepped up to help. That was just what he was supposed to do. He still had to do the rest of his part and burn the bat, but he thought late that night might be a good time. Everyone would be distracted with partying, there wouldn’t be a question about why he was out back with a little fire of his own. Hopefully he would be sober enough to remember to do it. While he waited for Jules, Jasper put some better clothes on and checked in with Amelia. She was content in her room, but seemed pleased that food was coming. Jasper bundled up and stepped outside to let the dogs pee in the front yard while he had a cigarette. He was out there when Jules pulled up, giving her a smile through the windshield before he sternly told Max to stop barking and get his ass in the house.
Jules was used to the dogs by now, so they didn't bother her much, even when they were barking. As long as they didn't jump at her, she was good. Jules turned off her car and grabbed the bags of food, as well as the carrier holding the milkshakes. She handed that to Jasper to carry so she didn't risk dropping everything. "Moxie's was definitely open, and super busy. Which I guess is good. Things getting back to normal." Jules hadn't minded the wait. It was just nice seeing people out doing stuff like the last few days hadn't happened. She definitely wanted to get to that point too, even if she knew it wouldn't be that easy. Jules shut her car door to follow Jasper back into the house. "Is Amelia awake?"
Jasper accepted his share of the burden, dipping in quickly to kiss Jules’s lips before they started back to the house. Things always seemed to go back to normal, didn’t they? As things got weirder and weirder, that part of it seemed more and more insane to him. He wasn’t sure if the quick recovery was a good thing or a psychotic thing. But maybe he was just feeling that way because he was finally being directly affected. Jasper didn’t know. He didn’t want to talk about it either, so he just grunted and nodded to the first part of what Jules said. “I think so, she was reading when I talked to her,” he said as he held the door open for Jules with his free hand. The dogs pushed past him to get inside as well, never fans of the snow and freezing weather. Once they were all in, Jasper led them to the kitchen so they could put everything down. “Amelia!” he called deeper into the house. “Food’s here!”
Jules didn't mind the brief interludes of normal. She welcomed them, actually. The dogs, saying hi to Amelia, doling out food. Everything smelled good even if she didn't have much of an appetite. But she needed to eat, so she would. Once Amelia had taken her food and wandered off, Jules settled with Jasper to eat. He still looked tired, but he looked a lot better than he had on Friday. Jules sipped her drink, glancing down the hall where Amelia had disappeared to before looking back at Jasper. "Did you tell her?" she murmured. Jules didn't think Jasper would tell Amelia anything about what happened at her house Friday, but it was never smart to assume anything anymore. She doubted that he would, given the implications, but Jules wanted to make sure what had happened stay between her and Jasper... and Ruby.
Eating was just easier in the kitchen, and there was less dog harassment. Gavin didn’t let them beg for too long, so Max and Rude were keeping their distance, just looking hopeful and licking their chops every now and then. The food was great, and Jasper was trying not to wolf it down, but it was difficult. He’d been so hungry lately, especially the day before, but the burger in his hands was way more satisfying than anything he’d stuffed in his mouth yesterday. Jasper gave Jules an incredulous look as he washed his latest bite down with some milkshake. “Hell no,” he answered once his mouth was clear. “I’m not telling anyone.” Amelia probably would just want to help instead of judge them, but Jasper still didn’t want her involved. The fewer people who knew the truth, the better. He reached over to briefly squeeze Jules’s forearm. “How’re you holding up?”
Honestly she was relieved he hadn't told Amelia. It wasn't that Jules didn't trust the other girl, but she was also of the mind that the fewer people who knew, the better. Hopefully Ruby would use her brain and not tell anyone either. "I'm okay," she said with a soft shrug. "I mean, I'm not like... mourning or anything. Which probably makes me sound like a bitch. I'm sad for my mom? Because she doesn't know what happened, and probably never will. I think I'm just nervous that it'll like... be written all over my face what happened and someone will figure it out. And I know that the fog thing probably got his body but I'm still kind of freaking out that I don't know what happened to it. Does that make sense?" She felt like she had rambled a little, but it still felt good to get some of it out.
Jasper listened -- none of it seemed like rambling to him, it just seemed like reasonable responses to a super shitty situation. He nodded when Jules was done, because it all made sense to him. “For one? That dude was a fucking creep and he tried to rape you, so ... you don’t have to mourn him for a fucking second,” he said, keeping his voice low even though it was laced with malice for the moment. Edward had deserved to die, in Jasper’s mind, and die in a much worse way. He got off fucking lucky. “All of that sounds totally normal ... if like, there is a normal for this kind of thing. But it’ll be okay, baby. Nobody can read your mind. And if like, anything changes ... we’ll deal with it.”
Jules knew Jasper was right. Even in her dark moments since it had happened, she thought maybe this was better for her mom. Maybe she would find someone to be with who wasn't a creeper, someone who might treat her better. Then again, maybe Margaret Cooper liked being treated bad, maybe she liked the fighting. Jules took another sip of her drink to try and ease up the dryness in her throat. When Jasper said no one could read her mind, her gaze snapped up to his and she arched a brow. "Actually, three people can read my mind. I think we've all found a weird way to block each other out? But... I sometimes hear snippets of them in my head, so I guess maybe they can to. I don't... no one has said anything about it, so I don't think they know. But..." Jules exhaled. "This has been a really shitty winter break. I mean, other than Christmas. Going back to school is going to feel really weird."
Jasper had just been thinking about the cops and Jules’s mom, not the guys psychically attached to her brain. His face fell a little and he mumbled an “oh, right.” Well shit, that complicated things, didn’t it? What if one of them heard Jules obsessing over what had happened? Because Jasper knew as well as she did that she wasn’t going to stop worrying about it, at least not for quite a while. He didn’t know how to help with that part of it in the slightest, so Jasper could only look sympathetic. “Fuck ... yeah it will,” he murmured, rubbing a hand over his face. He still had to try and graduate. Jasper took another slurp from his milkshake, then put it down with purpose. “Okay ... I’m calling it. Fuck it all for tonight, we’re not gonna talk about it anymore. I’m gonna get you stoned and we’re gonna have fun and then go see fireworks and forget all about everything for the night, deal?”
Jules wondered what would happen if Carson or Nic or Neil heard what she had done through her thoughts. Would they turn her in? Tell someone? Maybe if they knew what had really happened they would leave it alone. Maybe not. No one had said anything about it to her, in her head or otherwise, so Jules wasn't going to worry about it until she had to. Okay, that was a lie, but she would try not to worry about it. At least not so much that one of the guys might hear her. Unable to help it, Jules felt her lips twitch at Jasper's exclamation. She was so ready not to talk about it anymore and getting stoned sounded like a good plan to her. "We're going to get stoned and then go see fireworks?" she asked, grinning now. "That sounds like a lot more fun than anything I would've done. Are you sure you feeling up to going out in like, public? It'll probably be busy at the marina tonight."
Jasper was nodding that hell yes they were going to get stoned and go see fireworks and have fun. Jules looked pleased about the idea too, which made him happy. He smiled brightly back at her. It always kind of felt like a crapshoot to Decide things, like she might hate his ideas or him taking charge like that or something and it would lead to a fight, so he was glad that didn’t seem to be the case today. He really wanted to show her a good time, especially after his attitude the day before. Jasper made a ‘pfft’ sound to dismiss her concern, waving a hand. “I’m so ready to get out of here,” he admitted. “Feeling kind of stir crazy. So yeah, I’ll be fine.” At least the restlessness he was feeling today was much lighter than the dark stormcloud that had followed him around the day before. “And we can do like, anything you want ‘til then.”
Jules was more than ready for a good time. She didn't even care what they did, as long as they were hanging out together and there was no fog, or dead stepdads or anything remotely creepy. Was that too much to ask? "I don't care what we do," she said with a shrug. "We can hang out here, or if you want to go to a movie, or like, the arcade, or... whatever, I don't care." Jules didn't have it in her to be picky today. "We could even go drive somewhere and get stoned like we used to. But... I mean, it was a lot warmer back then." And she didn't know if he would want to park somewhere and sit in his car, given he had been stuck in it for so long during the fog.
Winter was a shitty time to be hanging out in the car, in spite of how nostalgic it might make them. Jules was being uncharacteristically pliable about plans, and Jasper recognized that she was probably too exhausted to think about much of anything. He considered for a moment, nibbling on his bottom lip and bouncing his knee. “How ‘bout ... we smoke a little, then go out and ice skate down at the rink until we get hungry again, then dinner, and then like, to the marina for fireworks? We’ll make a day of it,” he suggested, his brow quirking up a bit. “Unless you’re like, too tired or something.” Jasper hadn’t been ice skating yet this year, and he had that itchy urge to get out.
Jules raised a brow, her lips twitching in a poorly suppressed smile. "You want to ice skate?" She was worried he might fall and hurt his arm worse, but maybe it wouldn't be so bad. Plus, she hadn't been ice skating at all this year, and it sounded fun. Honestly, everything he mentioned sounded fun. They could just be a normal couple doing couple-y things all day and then ring in the New Year together. "I think that sounds great though, all of it." Maybe she ought to feel guilty leaving her mom alone all day so soon after Edward went "missing", but Jules couldn't stand being in that house for another full day. "Do you want to go soon?"
Jasper wasn’t bad at ice skating, he had a pretty good balance, and he didn’t give a shit about his arm. It didn’t even hurt much anymore, just if he stretched it wrong or bumped into something. Giving Jules a real date-day took precedence, especially after he’d been an assbag the day before. “Yeah, like ... you deserve a whole date, like all day,” he told her, grinning faintly. Jasper was relieved and pleased that she seemed keen on it all. He would’ve contented himself with just staying in and cuddling if that was what Jules wanted to do, but getting out and doing something physical again today seemed like it would be nice. “Soon, later, whenever you want,” he said with a shrug. “I can be ready in like five minutes, tops.”
Jules wasn't sure she deserved anything, but she appreciated that Jasper was willing to do that for her. She worried about his arm, and if he should really be out doing a bunch of stuff, but it didn't seem to be bothering him much, so she wasn't going to protest that they should stay in. "Okay, then let's do that," she said, returning his smile with one of her own. "Soon sounds good. I mean, whenever you're ready. You don't have to rush or anything. But I'm ready to go when you are." They would have fun. No fog, no creepy dead stepdads, no scary monsters. Just fucking ice skating and ringing in the new year with her boyfriend. Normality. Was that too much to ask? "Oh, but yeah we totally need to make sure we take some weed with us, because... well, because."
Jasper shot her an amused, incredulous face. “Look at who you’re talkin’ to,” he murmured with a little snicker. He stood up and kissed her cheek, reaching for her hand to pull her along with him. They could pre-game a little in his room while Jasper got ready. It ended up taking more than five minutes, more like twenty while he shared a joint with Jules -- letting her smoke most of it since he had to drive -- and got changed. That included changing the bandage on his shoulder, and Jasper noticed but didn’t comment on the fact that his scratch seemed to be healing pretty fast. It wasn’t something to complain about, maybe his body was just good at healing. Whatever. Eventually they were bundled up and ready, extra weed and a flask of booze buried in Jasper’s coat pockets. He held the door of his car open for Jules to get in and gave her ass an affectionate pat as she did so. Then they were really on their way.
Jules was feeling decidedly more relaxed by the time she slipped into Jasper's car to head off to wherever they were going. He always had the best weed. Despite the chill in the air, and his car at the moment, Jules felt warm enough and she was pleased when they were finally off, heading for the marina. The anxiety and restlessness she had been feeling since the fog seemed to ebb significantly and a part of her wished she could just feel like this forever. Her fingers felt a little tingly in her gloves and she curled them in to press against her palms. That only seemed to make the tingling worse, though it didn't hurt. It felt funny, in a weird kind of way. "I used to take ice skating lessons outside of town when I was like... five," she told Jasper after a moment. She flexed her fingers again. "I think my mom wanted me to do it professionally or something but I hated getting up at the butt crack of dawn to go and I would throw screaming fits to get out of it. She put me in ballet instead. I think she figured out that it would be easier for me to murder her in her sleep with an ice skate than a ballet slipper."
Whenever Jasper drove while high in the winter, he wished it wasn’t so he could roll the windows down for the fresh air. It always felt so good to drive fast and let the wind blow through his hair. But it was too fucking cold for that today, so he just enjoyed the sensation of movement and having his girlfriend next to him. He laughed at the little story, probably more than it warranted, but it was funny. He could picture little five year old Jules literally kicking and screaming with all of her natural stubbornness packed into a tiny body. “How long’d ballet last?” he asked, glancing over at her with a lopsided grin. “I think my dad like ... tossed a football with me in the backyard like two or three times in my life. They never made me do any extracurricular shit.” The word ‘extracurricular’ came out a little lazy and slurred, but he knew Jules would know what he meant.
"I took ballet for five years," she said with a grin. "And then I got into cheerleading, so..." Cheerleading had been easier, and while it still took a lot of physical strength, it hadn't been as hard on her body as ballet had been. Jules liked to eat. "You could've probably played sports, if you wanted to," she said, giggling at the mental image of Jasper in uniform. It wasn't a funny image - it was sexy, actually - but the giggles were happening whether she wanted them to or not. "I bet you could've been a quarterback. Or at least been on the basketball team. You've got the body for it. Then you could’ve fucked the entire cheer squad if you wanted to."
Jasper gave her an incredulous glance, though it was softened by his own laugh. The whole idea of him being some jock was ridiculous to him. Even if he did have sporty skills -- which he didn’t really think he did, despite being decent at shooting hoops in the driveway -- he didn’t have the teamwork temperament. He was more likely to lay someone out than work with them. “Fuck that,” he said, lengthening both words for emphasis. “Who wants to fuck those bitches anyway? I got the only cheerleader I need.” Jasper reached over to squeeze Jules’s thigh. “I can’t kiss anybody’s ass enough to be a quarterback, either.” He laughed again. All of it seemed like such a gross popularity contest to Jasper, and he would never be popular. He was fine with that. “Wouldn’t mind seein’ you in some tight ballet outfit though. I’ll wear a basketball uniform if you’ll wear that sometime.” Jasper grinned.
Jules knew popularity meant nothing to Jasper. It had meant everything to Jules for years. It still did, just in a different sort of way. Wanting to be with Jasper and sort of quelled her desire to maintain a certain image. Now she just wanted to do whatever the fuck she wanted to do, and an egotistical part of her figured she was beautiful and popular enough to get away with it. And honestly, she was glad Jasper wasn't popular. She liked having something removed from that part of her life, something - someone - that was solely hers. Jules snickered softly at the idea of finding a ballet outfit to wear for him. "That sounds like a porno in the making," she pointed out as she rested her hand over his on her thigh. "But I'll see what I can do. And by the way, I'm glad you don't play sports or anything. I like having you mostly to myself."
Wasn’t most everything they did a prono in the making? Well maybe not so much anymore -- there was too much dumb, unsexy real life bullshit going on. But Jasper liked the sound of rekindling some of that with silly costumes. He wasn’t sure he could act like some meathead jock asshole, but he would try if it turned Jules on even once. None of it would stay on for very long anyway. “I like bein’ here for you to have mostly to yourself,” Jasper murmured, rubbing his thumb against the side of her finger. He knew she was possessive, but that didn’t bother him much, because he was too. Only when it started to be a problem, like the thing with him moving in with Logan. But Jules had realized she was being unreasonable, so that was okay now. He gave a tiny groan and said, “I do need a job though. Would you like, be bothered if I worked for Ruby’s dad? Like changing oil and shit? It’ll pay more than bussing tables.”
Jules wanted to ask why he thought she would be bothered if he worked for Ruby's dad, but she knew that was a silly question. Anything revolving around Ruby, even indirectly, was designed to make her feel prickly. But... she didn't. At some point, Jules had stopped thinking about the other girl as some kind of rival. She wasn't sure when that happened. Maybe when they tried to get rid of a body together. That sort of thing bonded people even if they didn't want to be bonded. Jules's stomach tightened in discomfort for a moment before she shook her head. "It won't bother me if that's what you want to do. It would probably be better to work for someone who knows you."
Jasper felt now that it was better to ask than just move forward and piss Jules off by accident. She didn’t need any more stress on her. Maybe it wasn’t smart to get even more entangled with the Fox family, now that he’d helped to cover up what Ruby and Jules had done -- even though he still didn’t think of it as a murder, more of a deserved accident -- but Jasper had never claimed to be smart. He knew Daniel Fox well enough, Aaron could put in a good word for him, and the work was way more interesting than being a waiter or some shit. “Yeah probably,” he muttered with a faint chuckle. Jasper couldn’t argue there. “Cool then, I’ll like, talk to him, see if he needs some extra hands.” And if it didn’t pay enough, he could always sell drugs. There was always a demand for those. He lifted both of their hands to kiss the back of Jules’s, then let her go to turn the car into the parking lot closest to the ice skating rink. It was time to not worry about shit and just have fun with his girl.
At least working with cars was something Jasper enjoyed doing, and she couldn't really see him waiting tables or anything like that. Some of the stuff that bothered her before just felt silly now. Maybe that was growth. Or maybe it was just trauma, who knew. The skating rink looked busy, but not annoyingly so, and she felt like being around people, even people she didn't know, might provide decent distraction. Once they had parked and gotten out of the car, Jules took Jasper's hand, glad that she had dressed for the weather today. This was going to be fun. Fun and normal. Someone about it made Jules grin and a small laugh caught in her throat. "If you would have told me five months ago that I would be ice skating with Jasper Lucas..." Jules squeezed his hand. "Or I guess... Jasper Lucas ice skating at all. This could seriously damage your bad boy rep, you know."
Jasper laughed and playfully rolled his eyes. “Do I even have that anymore? I don’t even know,” he said. To a lot of the guys who cared about a ‘bad boy rep’ in the first place, he’d probably lost it long ago. He was pretty pussy-whipped, he supposed. Jasper called it being in love, but that also damaged his bad boy rep, so who knew. Who cared. “And man, whatever, I know plenty of hockey players who are bad boys, and they skate all the time. Don’t expect me to do any jumps or pirouettes or nothin’.” He grinned and bumped shoulders with Jules, squeezing her hand as they headed toward the skate rental booth. He definitely didn’t have hockey-level ice skating talent, but Jasper could stay upright and not look like a complete baby giraffe, so that was something.
"I'm sure you do, at least for some people." Which was probably why Jasper waiting on tables or even bussing them might not be a great idea. Maybe kids their age would know better, but Jules wasn't naive enough to believe that Jasper Lucas dating her has somehow redeemed him in the eyes of everyone who thinks his family are a bunch of troublemakers. Jules didn't really care if Jasper didn't, which was progress, considering how embarrassed she thought she would be if people found out they were hooking up in the first place, months ago. Maybe it was a sign of emotional maturity. Or maybe that was just love. "No, don't try anything fancy," she told him with a smile. "We don't need you ending up in the hospital again." It was still cold out, but not like it had been during the fog. Still, Jules's hands felt tingly still, but she didn't want to pull away from Jasper. They got their skates and put their things in the makeshift lockers to keep safe. As Jules tied her skate tight she looked over at the water. It seemed still and peaceful, though for some reason that made her slightly uneasy. Looking away toward Jasper instead, she smiled again, determined to get past the discomfort still in her belly. "Ready?"
“Ready,” Jasper concurred with a little grin. His skates were laced up tight, but he felt a little wobbly as he stood and crossed the few steps to the ice. It had been a while, but the muscle memory of how to skate well kicked back in fairly quickly, and soon enough they were gliding around the rink in smooth circles. Jasper was glad that they’d gotten stoned for this, because it felt really cool and he didn’t give two shits how dorky it might be. Bumping into the half-walls and clinging to Jules and laughing was fun, and the fresh air was probably good for both of them. The feeling of just being out and not thinking about all the dark bullshit that kept plaguing them was the best part. Jasper wondered if he could get Amelia down here too before the rink closed for the season.
For a long time it did feel normal. They were having fun and Jules had momentarily forgotten all about the fog, and her stepdad, and her mom... everything. The pot probably helped, and having Jasper hold her hand, and cling to her when she nearly fell. She blamed her clumsiness on the weed, of course. She managed to do a couple of fun turns, though she wasn't as skilled as she might have been had she stuck to the ice skating thing when she was younger. Jasper's arm didn't seem to be bothering him any, which was also good and Jules soon stopped worrying about it. She even managed to get a couple of pictures of him skating on her phone. With her phone tucked away in her back pocket, Jules spread her arms and managed to do a somewhat smooth turn. It was too bad ice skaters had to get up at the butt crack of dawn, or she might have stuck with this.
As she slowed and stopped, she looked out toward the marina to the water again. For a brief moment everything was covered in fog again, dark shadows moving about. It was only a flash in her mind before everything looked normal again. Her hands were no longer tingling, but aching, like they had been split open at the palms. Jules cringed, looking down to see if blood had soaked through her gloves. They looked fine but she tugged one off just to make sure. No cuts, no blood. For a second she considered reaching out to someone mentally, Carson maybe, to see if he was experiencing anything weird, but decided it was probably just lingering trauma or something. Jules slipped her glove back on quickly. "Do you mind if we get something hot to drink?" she asked Jasper. "Unless you want to keep skating, then that's okay too." She just needed something to focus on now.
Jasper whistled and clapped at Jules’s graceful spin, kind of marveling at the fact that he’d never thought of ice skaters as sexy before. Or maybe Jules just made everything sexy, that was likely it. He noticed that she looked a little blank when she stopped, then cringed and looked at her hand, but Jasper just chalked that up to a bit of dizziness and possibly a little cramp or something. “Yeah sure, I could use some hot chocolate,” he said, pushing off with his skate to get closer to her. “You okay?” Jasper made a vague gesture toward her hand, but he didn’t look too concerned about it, since she wasn’t acting like it was a huge deal. He started with her toward the ice exit.
Jules nodded with a small smile. "I'm fine. I think my hands are just getting cold, so something hot to drink would be nice, if only to hold something warm." She took hold of his arm as they headed for the exit and used him to balance herself as she stepped out of the rink. Jules glanced around again, half expecting to see more fog, but the day was clear enough and she took a deep breath to steady herself before sitting down to start untying her skates. "How is your arm feeling?" she asked him as she tugged the skates off. "It's not sore or anything now, is it?" Jules was thinking maybe they could smoke another joint. Maybe he would think it's too soon, but she was feeling weirdly anxious again and she didn't want to spoil the night before they even made it to midnight.
Jasper plunked down next to her to get out of his own skates, and he rolled his shoulder a bit when Jules asked about his arm. “Nah, it’s doing okay,” he said. It was a bit sore, like the scab made his skin feel too tight and there was a deep ache, but it was all tolerable. Skating hadn’t made it any worse -- the weed probably helped, but whatever -- so Jasper wasn’t going to complain about it. He leaned over to press a kiss against Jules’s cheek, then the corner of her mouth, smiling. It was getting a bit colder as the sun was starting to go down, but he thought their night was going to be equally as fun. Once all the skates were off, Jasper stood up and grabbed both pairs to carry, slinging one set over his good shoulder before he offered a hand up to Jules. “You’re really good at it,” he told her. “Skating, I mean. You looked amazing, like, super graceful.” He was feeling warm and happy and loving, even though it probably sounded cheesy as fuck.
Jules smiled and took his hand to stand. "I think cheerleading probably helped with that graceful part." It didn't sound cheesy to Jules. It always made her feel good when Jasper complimented her, and it definitely helped erase any lingering irritation she had felt about his attitude the day before. Jules fell into step beside him return their skates. Jules hugged his arm to her for a moment before loosening her grip on him. She was going to forget the fog and everything that had happened during it. At least for the rest of the night. She was trying to remember the last time they did something like this without a heavy cloud of scary hanging over them and Jules honestly couldn't pinpoint a time. Homecoming, maybe? But even that had been fraught with issues. "You looked pretty steady yourself... mostly." Jules grinned. "But I don't think either of us is going to be winning gold medals anytime soon. Or ever. Thank you for doing it, though. It was fun."
“Totally fun.” It seemed like it would be harder to be graceful on ice than just on the ground, so Jasper still gave her props for the skating. He liked to watch her cheerlead too, and part of him longed to see it again, if only for the sense of normalcy. It was a muted longing at the moment though, thanks to the weed, and easy to dismiss as he got distracted by fetching their shoes from the locker and turning the skates back in. Once they were all normal-footed again, Jasper slung his arm around Jules’s shoulders to stroll with her toward the drink stalls. He gave her a sly little side-look. “Wanna take hot chocolate back to the car and spark up this other treat in my pocket?” he asked. Then maybe they could eat and find some other fun diversion until the fireworks started.
"Oh my god, yes," Jules breathed before laughing. "I definitely want to do that." His car would be warm and the pot would slow everything down in her head again and probably keep her feeling good until the fireworks. She would check in with her mom too, just because. Jules didn't want to talk about her stepdad or answer any more questions, but she didn't want her mom to worry about her, especially after what had happened. "I'm guessing your dad is going to be at the bar all night, yeah?" Maybe she could stay over with Jasper... or he could stay the night in her room, even if he had to sneak out in the morning. She was starting to feel clingy and needy and the thought of going home alone after the fireworks ended was slightly panic inducing.
Maybe if they got bored they could even drive around for a bit before they came back to the marina. Go somewhere quiet and fool around. Jasper felt like they hadn’t been having nearly enough sex lately, even though there were plenty of good reasons for it. His brain had just decided that today was going to be a Good Day, and that meant being at least a little horny. “Yeah, I think so,” he answered Jules’s question. “It’s usually a crazy night, I’m sure they’ll all be there really late.” Jasper had similar thoughts about sleepovers, but he didn’t want to push anything because of Jules’s mom. Damn if he didn’t want to wake up next to Jules, though. He paid for their hot drinks once they reached the front of the line, and then led the way back to where he’d parked his car.
Jules honestly didn't mind what they did, or where. She was just happy to be out of the house, and with Jasper. And really, she was kind of relieved to be walking away from the water. "Maybe you can stay over tonight... or I can stay with you." She supposed that was dependent on Amelia and where she would be sleeping. Jules knew things were kind of cramped in Jasper's house now. "If you don't think your dad would mind it, either way." She supposed her mother would be the one with the problem, if she even cared right now, but Jules could handle it. Everything had just been really shitty for the past several days. It would be nice to ring in the new year and then go back to one of their rooms and fall asleep together. Jules was hoping to be super high, or super wasted by then too.
Gavin had pretty much given up his room to Amelia completely, so Jasper still had his own privacy. It was cramped and not ideal, but they were all making it work. It was beyond worth it to have his sister back. “He doesn’t give a fuck,” he told Jules happily, looking over at her with a little grin. “He prob’ly won’t even know you’re there. Do you really think you can, though? Like, your mom won’t freak out?” Maybe Jules just didn’t care if she did, which was also fine by Jasper. He just knew he would rather have Jules stay with him than the other way around. The thought of going back to that house kind of gave him the creeps. He couldn’t imagine how Jules felt still living there, so giving her a break sounded good too. He squeezed her hand as they reached his car before letting go to fish out his keys. “Come home with me. I want my first morning of 2018 to be with you.”
"I don't know, she might freak out, but... I'd rather her freak out over the phone than go home and have her be freaking out all night anyway. She might be too distracted to care though," Jules said with a shrug. She felt kind of bad, wanting to leave her mom alone, but Margaret Cooper could be certifiably insane sometimes, and Jules didn't think she could deal with that tonight, on her own. Besides, she wanted to spend the first morning of the new year with Jasper too, and it did pleasant things to her stomach to hear him say the same thing. "What did you do for new year's eve last year?" she asked him, once the doors were unlocked and they were slipping into the semi-warmth of the car.
It was probably fucked up of him to hope that Jules’s mom would now be too distracted or distraught to make a big deal of their relationship anymore. He wasn’t sure if that would be the case, but Ms. Cooper was still an issue he didn’t know how to deal with and didn’t want to have to find a way. He just hoped her husband’s disappearance would keep her occupied and she would leave them alone. Jasper settled into the seat and set his hot chocolate down in the cupholder, then fished the joint out of his coat pocket. “I think ... me and Logan did some molly and acid and watched the fireworks,” he answered. “It’s kinda fuzzy on the details, but I felt like I’d had a damn good night when I woke up again.” Jasper flashed Jules a crooked grin, then offered her the joint and lighter so she could take the first hit. “What about you?”
That wasn't at all surprising and Jules smirked softly as she took the joint from him. "Well, I didn't do molly, or acid. I went to a party with Cam and had a lot to drink. We could see the fireworks from the cliffs, so a bunch of us went out and did that." Jules lit the joint and took a moment to enjoy the first hit. She thought she and Cam had had sex that night too, but she didn't remember much about it and even if she did, she didn't need to say that part. If Jules wasn't the one throwing the party back then, she tended to let go and just get wasted. It was kind of weird to think back a full year. She felt like that had been a totally different person, living some other life. So much had changed. "What's it like? Acid, I mean." She offered him the joint back.
Cam, of course. Jasper barely resisted rolling his eyes, but he managed. He hated that guy. It wasn’t a huge leap to think that Jules probably fucked him that night, but Jasper wasn’t going to dwell there either. It was hard to be jealous now that they’d been through so much together. He and Jules were bonded more than any of those other fuckers could ever touch. Jasper hummed as he took the joint from Jules and took a hit. “I haven’t done it much,” he said as he exhaled and slumped a little lower in his seat. “And I think the shit Logan had wasn’t great, I dunno. It just gave me tracers and made me feel kinda ... lightheaded and disconnected. ‘Course I was on other shit at the time too.” He chuckled faintly and hit the joint again before he offered it back. “But no like, great life revelations or anything.” Jasper wiggled his fingers and snickered.
"Well then, what fun is that without major life epip...epiphanies?" She stumbled over the word before giggling once and taking the joint. Words were hard sometimes. "I wouldn't mind feeling disconnected right now." Weed helped, but what would it feel like to just... completely shut her brain down for a while. Forget where she was, and what had happened. That would be nice. Jules held the smoke in her throat for a moment, handing the joint back to Jasper before reaching down to shift the seat so she could lay back a bit. It was probably stupid to get high in his car in a parking lot near the marina, but whatever. Surely the cops around here had better things to do. "Have you ever done any drugs that did give you great life revelations?"
Jasper had smoked weed in so many places around Point Pleasant, he barely gave it any thought anymore, unless he was right next to the police station or something. They did have better things to do than to bust him for petty bullshit anymore. It was nice. He tilted his own seat back and considered the question, taking a couple more hits off the joint and blowing the smoke toward the window he’d rolled down a crack. The heater was doing its job, and he was getting more warm and comfortable. “Nah, I guess not,” he answered finally. “I mean, I’ve had some ideas that seemed big and great on weed, but then they ended up being kinda stupid.” Jasper chuckled faintly. “I wanna try shrooms though. I hear if you get good ones, you like, can really have some spiritual awakening or something. I’ve seen some shit on acid, but it never felt like, wise or some shit.”
Jules was quiet for a moment as she processed what Jasper might look like on acid. Or shrooms. Especially if he had some kind of "spiritual awakening". It prompted a small giggle to form in her throat before several more followed. "Spiritual awakening is probably just hallucinations," Jules said through the laughter. "That's when you end up naked, rolling around in the grass talking about how you're one with the Earth or something. If you do get your hands on some good shrooms, tell me before you try them so I can record you on my phone." Jules had never done anything like that. Too paranoid that she would get busted and kicked off the cheer team. Plus, who would she even ask in town for that kind of crap? Jasper Lucas, probably. Jules's giggles trailed off with a soft snort. "I've never done anything crazy when I've been high, or drunk. It's like... just making out with people. Or jumping into the pool like a moron."
Jasper laughed a bit. He knew she probably wanted to record him to laugh at him, but it kind of made sense to get video of it anyway. He thought watching himself roll around on the ground in the midst of some hippie-dippy shit would be kinda cool. Maybe he would even say something profound, who knew. “I’ll keep that in mind. Bet Logan can find some,” he murmured. Logan could find anything. The fresh weed was sinking in deeper now, making him feel floaty and happy and like nothing mattered but the moment. He turned his head to look over at Jules with a little half-smile. “Nothin’ wrong with making out and jumping into pools. Craziest shit I’ve done is prob’ly ... I dunno, gotten high and gone out wrecking empty houses with Logan.” That had literally just happened, but it was the only thing coming to mind, so Jasper rolled with it. “Much less constructive than making out.” He reached over to put his hand on her leg. “Thanks for not like, bitching me out constantly about it, though. I know some girls don’t like all the smoking weed and stuff.”
That didn't surprise her much, that he and Logan would vandalize places, especially if they were high. Jules just hoped they didn't do it now. With his hand on her leg, Jules covered it with her own, curling her fingers around his. "I kinda miss bitching you out all the time," she said with another giggle. "'cause then you'd just fuck me harder. Not that you don't do it now." The words were coming out even if she wasn't fully aware of them. Her lips felt funny too, forming words and stuff. It was kind of funny. "Besides, my friends and I smoked weed all the time over the summer. It'd be stupid of me to get pissy with you about it. I mean, I don't want you doing anything that'll get you like, hurt. But weed is like... pot." She snickered again. "It's fine. It makes things feel better, so who cares."
Exactly, who cared. Jasper grinned, giving her fingers a squeeze. She really was the perfect girlfriend, his Jules. “I mean, you can always start bitchin’ again if that’s what you want me to do,” he murmured, his tone flirtatious. With all the bullshit going on, Jasper felt like he hadn’t gotten to fuck Jules really hard in forever. Stupid fog and stupid monsters and stupid fucked up town. “You’re pretty hot when you’re bitching me out, I can’t help it. Hot like, all the time.” It felt so good to be high and pleasantly tired from the ice skating and full of hot chocolate and with his girlfriend, with everything else so far away. Jasper didn’t want to leave his car for a while.
Jules giggled again, feeling warm and buzzy now. She had liked ice skating with him, but this was fun too. She'd probably get out smelling like pot later but oh well. She was with Jasper Lucas so would anyone expect anything less? "You're hot when you're all... bitching with me." Was that the right word to describe it? No. She didn't like it when he was being an asshole, unless she was being a bitch and needed or wanted the pushback. Jules knew he had liked antagonizing over the summer, before all the deeper stuff kicked in. But the fighting had always led to really great sex, so it had been worth it. "But like...not super bitchy. Sorta bitchy."
Jasper tittered. He knew what she meant. Sometimes they both went overboard with their attitudes, but when it just stayed at the level of bickering, it had been fun. It stirred up the blood, made him want Jules even more. That was probably fucked up, they were both probably super damaged people, but considering the way Jasper had been raised in a house full of screaming and anger, how could he not find all that at least somewhat appealing? It turned Jules on too, apparently, so at least they were fucked up together. “I’m only sorta bitchy when you’re being a brat,” he teased, still grinning as he pinched lightly at Jules’s thigh. “And I gotta show you what’s what.”
Jules had never considered herself a fucked up person. She had always felt like she had her shit together. She was pretty and popular. She could have any boy she wanted - unless he was gay, apparently - and people liked her. If they didn't, they only hated her because she had everything they wanted. It was only when she started fucking Jasper that she realized maybe she didn't have it all together after all. It wasn't a bad thing. But he didn't put up with her bullshit, and he didn't let her get away with it either. Jules was aware that maybe some parts of their relationship were still unhealthy, but she honestly didn't care. It was cheesy and cliche, but she felt like he made her a better person. And really, superficially, the sex was hot. "I'm never a brat," she countered with a mock pout, before bringing his hand up from her thigh to her face. She pressed it against her warm cheek to nuzzle it. "And if I am, I'm only a brat when you're being a dick."
It was so weirdly sweet to be called a dick while Jules was snuggling his hand like that, Jasper let out a sound that was half-titter, half-’aww’. She was just so fucking cute sometimes. It made him want to make her come for hours. Jasper reminded himself they were in a very public parking lot ... but that could change, right? It was starting to get dark out, there were lots of other places to park. Especially with most of the town out on the marina celebrating. “You’re the best brat,” he murmured to her, his tone indicating it was a compliment even if it didn’t sound like one. Jasper squeezed Jules’s fingers and sat up a bit more. “You wanna go somewhere? We can come back for fireworks, we still got a while ...”
She thought about sucking on his fingers for a while, but that was kind of weird and made her laugh even when it still felt kind of sexy. She loved his hands, and his fingers and every part of his body. The things they could do to her... When he asked if she wanted to go somewhere, Jules knew what that meant and her smile widened even as she nodded. "Yeah, let's go somewhere." Not her house, and not his. But somewhere. Jules had always liked having sex while she was high. It was so much easier to let go of her inhibitions. Not that she had many when she was with Jasper. "Where do you wanna go?"
Jasper pulled the lever to pull the back of his seat up again, and pursed his lips as he considered. Houses didn’t even cross his mind -- he wanted to stay in the car, like the old days. Not that they were really old, but summer felt like it had happened years ago. He buckled up and stubbed out the joint to stow it out of sight. “Got a few ideas, let’s see how crowded they are,” he told Jules, flashing her another wicked smile. If all else failed and they couldn’t find somewhere pretty to park, there was always some of the back roads and empty houses’ driveways. Jasper could find somewhere tucked away to give them some privacy. As long as the heater kept working, they would manage to have fun.
Jules wanted to say that crowded didn't bother her. Public sex was mostly fun because of the risk of getting caught. But... she didn't want to get caught. Because if they got caught, they'd have to stop, and Jules just wanted to make out with Jasper and let everything else go. She sat her chair up and buckled up before picking up her hot cocoa. It was warm now, but that was okay. "I don't care where we end up, as long as we get there really quick," she said once she lowered her cup to her knee. "But like, not so quick that the cops notice, 'cause then we won't get to do anything." They wouldn't get to fool around or see the fireworks, because the car smelled like pot, and they were high and that would all be pretty bad. But she really did want to just crawl into his lap and make him go crazy. Jules couldn't do that right now, but she could put her hand on his thigh, so that's what she did, keeping it close to his crotch, just because.
“Somebody’s eager,” Jasper murmured with a wicked grin, tossing a quick glance over at Jules. Not that he was going to complain about that in the slightest. He was eager too. He had a semi-erection already, just thinking about getting Jules into his backseat again. He was careful to drive like a sane and sober person -- a skill he’d gotten pretty good at from driving way too often while he was high -- as he took them to the first spot he had in mind. They could always go out toward the woods or the cemetery or something, but Jasper didn’t want to be somewhere his nerves about the black eyed kids could get the best of him. They ended up in the back lot of the closed arcade, where there were some lights but not a ton, and no other cars, out of view of the street. Jasper put his car in park and looked over at Jules. “This seem a’ight to you?”
She was eager. Not only because it had been almost a week since they had gotten physical, but Jules was desperate to feel good. The weed helped for sure, but sex could just shut down all thought in her brain and that's what she really wanted. Tomorrow reality would sink in again and she would have to deal with it. But not right now. Jules was already unbuckling her seatbelt when Jasper parked and she nodded before leaning across the console to kiss him, her hand coming up to slip behind his neck, pulling him close. They would have to move to the backseat but they would get there. It felt like the summer - if summer was gray and cold as hell - but parking somewhere quiet and abandoned, letting the pot and arousal drive them. Back when things were easy and the only thing Jules worried about was her friends finding out she was hooking up with Jasper Lucas.
Simple and easy were much needed in Jasper’s life lately. Nothing had been simple or easy for a long time, it felt like, and his brain needed the escape. He got small reprieves here and there, when he was high or around people he loved enough to indulge in the distraction, but the past few days had been oppressively heavy and terrifying. They both needed this. Jasper kissed Jules back with hungry enthusiasm, reaching over to brush his hand against her face and the side of her neck before he slid it down further to cup her breast through her clothes. There was always something tantalizing about boobs that were under layers, softly padded and guaranteed to be warm. It always brought him back to the days when groping over clothing was as far as he got with girls. Not that those days had lasted long, but still.
Jules smiled against his mouth briefly when she felt his hand at her breast and she flicked her tongue against his lips before deepening their kiss so she could taste him better. Already she was starting to feel hot and restless in her clothes, with the car heater on and arousal licking down her spine. Things felt kind of hazy and soft on one level, but Jules was also starting to feel intensely horny and she struggled to keep kissing Jasper even as she began to shrug out of her coat. She was allowing her brain to drift off, to go back to the days of last summer when all they seemed to want to do was fuck. No monsters, no fog, no dreams. Just the two of them. And now it was so much better. Jules got out of her coat and moved her hands down into his before pausing. "Is your arm okay?" she breathed. "I don't want to hurt it."
The front seat didn’t have a ton of room to maneuver off a coat, especially when he was high and uncoordinated, so Jasper had started to turn and get up on his knees on the seat so he could get out of some of his layers before they crawled into the back. He paused when Jules did, halfway forgetting why she was asking for a moment. “Yeah, no, it’s fine,” he breathed back, quirking a tiny smile. “Just don’t punch it or anything.” Honestly, he didn’t care if he did get hurt by accident. He was about to fuck his girlfriend, which was his favorite thing in the world to do, and a little pain wasn’t going to keep him from it. Jasper started to squirm out of his coat, still keeping his mouth close to Jules’s.
