Greg and Sebastian
Greg was really happy about Karaoke night and he hoped this meant his best friend was on the path to healing. Break-ups sucked, especially when they seemed to come out of the blue and Bash had been really down lately and Greg didn't really know what he could do to help. Show up and belt out some tunes out of key? That he could do. He invited Phee too, because of course he did, and he wasn't very fussed about drinking so he just ordered soda at the bar for the two of them. Maybe he was trying hard to prove to the McCarthys that he was a good influence, he was still peeved as hell that they hadn't let Phee stay over on Christmas (it wasn't fair!) so he was determined to work extra hard at being the perfect boyfriend.
It was a very odd mix of people that showed up and that was par for the course of his senior year so far. The cliques all breaking up and mixing together. Jasper Lucas was there because of Jules which was just a trip, Ruby Fox showed up and Greg had to wonder what Clint thought about being there with such a rag tag group. Greg was at least used to it and he was pretty sure he'd heard a rumor about Clint hooking up with Ruby so maybe he was chill with it.
"C'mon Bash," he hollered when the microphone was free. "Let's do a duet!" He was on his feet and rushing onstage before his bestie had a chance to protest, eagerly motioning at him to follow. "Best song in the world!"
Sebastian was doing his best not to think about the breakup, something that was far easier to accomplish when he was keeping himself busy. It had been two weeks and he felt like he should be past it, like all of his breakups before, but he'd given more of himself this time was finding it wasn't that easy. He'd shifted from sad and depressed to bitter and angry, which didn't really feel like that much of an improvement, certainly not during the holidays. So distractions were a good thing, keeping him on happy high so long as he wasn't sitting at home by himself.
It was good to be out with friends, especially Greg, who he felt like he was seeing less of these days, though he couldn't really blame him. He was in the best relationship Sebastian had ever seen him in, was definitely happier, but he was also feeling the slight pain of losing his best friend to a girl. One who happened to be his sister. His feelings on the matter had become so complicated that he preferred just to squash them into a little ball and ignore them. It made things easier on everyone.
When Greg called him towards the stage, Sebastian laughed and rose to his feet, following him up on stage. "The best song in the world? Or your interpretation of it?" He was pretty sure he was going to make a fool of himself regardless, but that was fine so long as he had fun doing it.
"The tribute!" Greg exclaimed. "Tenacious D, dude." It was the perfect bro-duet, funny and literally about a couple of brothers rocking it out against the devil. Greg was pretty sure they could all use a little funny after the sad 80s tune the girl before them had been crooning. Luckily her party seemed to be leaving so Bash's crew would get more chances at singing tonight. He found the song as Bash got up on stage, then handed him the second microphone. "This one goes out to all the rockers in the house," he said, letting his voice drop a little deeper than it usually was - which considerably deep already. "Brought to you by the magnificent us."
"That's what I thought!" Sebastian laughed as picked up a microphone. "I just didn't want to get up here and find out you meant Madonna. If I can't hit those high notes, you definitely can't." It wouldn't stop them from belting out the tribute though-- if Jack Black could do it, so could they! The best part of the song was that they were meant to be silly with it, which meant that they could jump around, play air guitar, and pretty much pretend they were rockers for a full four minutes and seven seconds. "I expect to see some head banging," he told their audience with a grin. "Especially from the girls."
