Re: Aidan and Shayna Mae
It wasn't a huge debt, but it was something. Caius's father came around for stuff every now and then, but he always paid her. This was different. "I sell it... sometimes," Shayna Mae protested. But then she laughed, ignoring the fact that Aidan just swiped something from the Castells. It was small and wouldn't be missed. Probably. "Anyway, I only sell what people really need. If someone needs something, they can come to me. I'm not going to go to them." Caius had been a special circumstance. The opportunity had been there. "He didn't say how she lost it. I could just feel it when I saw her tonight. She's... there's nothing there. She's human. But it had to have been pretty terrible. She'll be a shell of who she was soon enough. The herbs will at least make the transition tolerable."
"But people don't know what you have, so they don't know they need it," Aidan argued with a smile. "Not that we need the money. I'm just sayin'." He'd always felt that if they really needed more cash, they could get it, but they were all comfortable with their way of living, so why bother? He made a bit with his moonshine, but it was like Shayna Mae's drugs-- they couldn't actually sell it openly, so people had to come to them. Aidan looked away from his sister, his eyes landing on Reagan Kelly. For some witches, their magic was an afterthought, a barely touched part of their life. That wasn't the case for the O'Reilly's though, and he doubted it was for the Kelly's either. As far as he knew, all of the Point Pleasant Six ancestors practiced, save the McCarthy's. "Should we worry?" he asked, looking back at his sister. "I've never heard of something like that going around, but..." If it was in any way contagious, he was getting out of that house fast.
Some people knew she had it, and Shayna Mae was fine with word of mouth customers. It kept the cops at bay, anyway. Not that they could arrest her or anything. Her herbs weren't illegal. But she didn't want the PPPD at her door asking questions or tromping around in her garden either. "I don't think so," Reagan said with a shake of her head. "Her family has been cursed for centuries now, and it has nothing to do with us. Honestly, I think if it was something that could affect us, Caius would have said so." Maybe. But he seemed fine, so she wasn't worried. "I think it's just backlash to something she attempted, or succeeded in." She looked more directly at her brother, a smile playing at her lips. "Try not to fill up your pockets tonight, yeah? I don't want an angry fire witch at my door later."
If the O'Reilly clan found themselves cursed as a whole, Aidan wholeheartedly believed they would put an end to that as swiftly as possible. He couldn't fathom why they would've let something like that hang over their heads for years, let alone centuries, especially when they had the reputation of being rather adept witches. But it was really none of his business, so he shrugged it off, curious but not enough to ask. He knew his sister was working with limited information to begin with. "It's just one trinket," he said with a little smirk. "I doubt they'll even notice it's missing with all this going on. It would be so easy to misplace something so small. And probably worthless."
"Trinkets in a house of witches is not always just a trinket," she reminded him. Shayna Mae had no qualms about taking on the "big sister" tone in her voice, though she wouldn't tell Aidan to put it back. His business what his business, after all. And she didn't really blame him. Zania and Nic had some pretty cool stuff. "If someone tried to steal something from our house, maybe they would wake up in the morning with boils on their dicks." She grinned and nudged him playfully with her hip. "You could probably do all of your Christmas shopping right here if you wanted to."
