Aidan and Shayna Mae
After Caius wandered off with her jar of pot in a pint, Shayna Mae ventured back out into the heart of the party. She recognized a few faces… Rostislav, though she didn’t know who the two people were with him. Rylee Mears and her cousin, though his name escaped Shayna Mae’s memory. There were a couple people she had never seen before, but she figured she would at least introduce herself to them by the end of the night. Everyone seemed to be having fun, and the house was extremely festive.
Since Knox was talking to someone, Shayna Mae found her brother instead. “Are you having fun?” she asked him. She hoped he was. Shayna Mae didn’t always know what her brother was up to, but she had been thrilled when he decided to come with her tonight.
It had been a long while since Aidan went to a party of any sort and never one with this eclectic a group of people. He would have been happy to watch them all night without saying a word, entertained by their own varied personalities and odd interactions. He knew he probably looked like a creeper, sitting back and watching everyone, but he didn’t really care. Besides, he did talk to people when they initiated conversation. He just hadn’t seen any reason to put himself out there quite yet.
When his sister wandered over to his side, he gave her a small smile before taking a sip of his drink. It could use a little something extra, in his opinion, but it wasn’t bad. “Yeah,” he answered. “It’s an interesting group. Lots of magic under one roof. Magic and… I dunno. Something else.” He could feel it in the air around a few of them, vibrating on a different frequency. They were extra. Human, but more.
“Yeah. I like it." Shayna Mae took a drink from her cup and looked around. "I thought we would be the ones to stick out, but it feels like we blend in pretty well." It was Caius and Reagan that felt out of place. Knox didn't seem out of place in the same sense, but he stuck out because of his size compared to everyone else. And his eyes. She looked at Aidan, a small smirk playing at her lips. "I gave Caius D'Onofrio my phone number. He asked me if we owned a phone." She was still amused by that. Shayna Mae knew they lived simply, in the woods, but they still enjoyed some modern comforts.
Aidan had been glad to find they didn't stick out as much as he'd thought they would. He liked watching other people, but didn't necessarily enjoy them watching him. He would always prefer to be a wallflower over the subject of discussion. "Bet he thinks we shit in the forest, too," he said with a little smirk. "Why'd you give him your number?" It certainly wasn't for a social call, but it was hard to imagine someone like Caius D'onofrio turning to them for anything. Even if they could help, Aidan always figured it would be a shot to his ego to ask for it.
"His wife lost her magic and now she's becoming a drunk," Shayna Mae explained as her gaze sought out Reagan Kelly. "I gave him some of my herbs to help her mood tonight. So I think he thinks he owes me one, which isn't a bad thing for us." Having anyone in the D'Onofrio family in their debt could potentially be helpful in the future. Maybe it hurt the guy's ego, but love was love and some people would do anything for it. “I’m telling you… organic drugs. People love them.”
"Shit, Shayna Mae," Aidan grinned. "That makes comin' out tonight worth it." He might not know the D'onofrio's well, but they practically owned the town, so he knew their family could benefit from having them in their debt. "We could make a fortune if you ever wanted to peddle that stuff," he said as he picked a paperweight up off a side table. It was an odd little idol and it fit nicely in the palm of his hand. "How'd she lose her magic?" he asked as he slipped the idol into his pocket. "I'd drink too, if I was her."
