Re: Zania and Reagan
Lem was definitely interesting. That was why Zania liked her. She had a fire within her, a strange sort of power that was its own kind of magic, and it bled into her personality in a good way. Plus, she made Nic happy and few girls did that. “My mother’s not talking to Nic, which isn’t all that big a surprise. And it’s nice not to be the target drawing her ire for once. I’m sure at some point she’ll stop asking us to come to these things, at which point she’ll realize she really doesn’t have a say.” If her mother didn’t want her to be there, Zania would make sure to attend. “They did meet Gabriel, though. I think they like him? I dunno. It doesn’t matter, but…” Zania shrugged because it did matter. They were her parents. She just didn’t want it to.
As much as she and her mother butted heads, Reagan was still grateful for her. She wouldn't be where she was without Veronica's guidance, as much as it annoyed Reagan at times. It was still difficult to forgive her mom for hiding the family curse from she and Caius for so long, but Reagan couldn't go back in time and change anything now. Now she needed Veronica's help. Reagan sipped her wine, finding she sort of understood what Zania was saying, even if she wasn't saying it. "But it does matter," she said after a moment. "As much as you wish it didn't. They're a major pain in the ass, but... who really wants to disappoint their parents?" Sighing, Reagan reached up to brush a strand of hair from her face. "All that really matters is how you feel. And if you like him..." It was Reagan's turn to shrug. "If he was sending fluffy animals to your door, then it's pretty clear how he feels."
Zania sighed and nodded. She knew exactly how to make her mother proud. Vivian Castell wanted a cookie cutter daughter, a little replica of herself who wore pearls with sweater sets, wore their hair straight and it’s natural color, and married a respectable man with a good paying job before popping out a couple of kids. Instead she got Zania. She was her father’s child through and through, baring the family willfulness to do whatever the fuck she pleased along with a family name. It drove her mother batty. “There was also an active love spell affecting him,” she pointed out. “I know he likes me, but I can’t count anything that happened that day.” Which was a pity because a good part of it had been really damn nice.
Reagan shrugged again, sipping more of her wine before she spoke. "Well, the love spell attracted people to those they already had feelings for, so at least part of whatever he did, he did because he was already attracted to you. And it went beyond, you know, carnal lust, because he thought of sending you adorable animals instead of just showing up and wanting to push you up against a wall and have his way with you." Although that could have been part of it too, but Reagan would prefer not to think about it. She was feeling more than a little buzzed now and Reagan scanned the crowd for Caius. "I hope it works out, regardless. For you and Nic."
Zania wouldn’t say no to a little carnal lust and wall sex, but she was glad that whatever she had with Gabriel seemed more than that. It was easy enough to get laid. It was a lot damn harder to find someone you actually enjoyed spending time with. “Thanks,” she said with a small smile. “I’m glad you got Caius back,” she offered in return. Because, despite everything, she didn’t think it was right for anyone to be stuck in the situation they’d been in. “I’ll see you around,” she said, dismissing herself. It felt like it was time to move on and she wanted to go back to Gabriel anyways.
"Thanks. And thanks for your help," she added, because it felt necessary after everything. Zania hadn't been obligated to let them look in her basement, but she had, even if the pages they found hadn't worked right away. But Caius was Caius again, and that's all Reagan had wanted. Now she felt eager to track him down, or refill her wine glass, and it was probably best to part ways with Zania now then wait until something set one of them off and they began to bicker again.
