Re: Ruby and Clint
Clint blew some air through his lips in a dismissive sound, chuckling as he turned and leaned against the counter next to Ruby, close enough for their arms to touch. “Well hey, if anybody gives you any shit, you can say you’re my date,” he offered, flashing her a grin before he took a sip from his red cup. Clint of course had no idea if that would work or not, how Jules really felt about Ruby, but now wasn’t a time to be serious. It was flirt time instead. “How’s the scoping goin’? See any trouble you wanna get into yet?” he added, just to dodge a bit of awkwardness if Ruby thought being his date was laughable or something.
“If you don’t mind,” Ruby smiled, thinking that might not be so bad. Some of the jocks he ran with were genuine jerks, but he seemed pretty cool so far and she thought she might’ve enjoyed being there as his date. Plus, it might actually be a good response to Jules, proof that she wasn’t interested in Jasper. Or at least proof that she was interested in someone else. “Haven’t gotten too far yet. I need a partner in crime,” she smirked as she gave him a little nudge. “I was thinking it might be fun to change out the music for Christmas music. See if I can’t get all the drunks singing carols. That’s all I’ve come up with so far. Holiday mischief.” But now that Clint was there, a number of other options had opened. “Any suggestions?”
“I don’t mind,” Clint answered, his grin showing that was an understatement. He could’ve actually invited her to be his date to Jules’s party -- he hadn’t come with plans to hook up with anyone or anything, it was just somewhere to hang out, but he hadn’t been sure enough of Ruby’s interest to chance it. Now he knew, and it made him feel a little giddy in the stomach. Clint snorted a laugh at her idea. “I think it’s all bluetooth speakers, so ... you could probably take one over without too much trouble,” he said. “I’ve got a lotta goofy stuff on my Spotify, too. But, uh, no, I dunno! Wanna wander around and see if anything jumps out at us?” Or if there were any dark corners that needed occupying.
"Goofy stuff works, too," Ruby laughed lightly. "Just something different. I'd love to see some of these guys attempt the Hokey-Pokey right now." It was a little bit silly, but she also didn't want to do anything destructive at Jules's house. And anything like Truth or Dare, that challenged drunk guys, typically got out of hand way too fast. They all had to one up each other, especially when drunk, and common sense was nowhere in sight. "But yeah, wandering's good," she smiled. "All filled up and ready to go."
Clint barked a laugh at that, but honestly, if the Hokey Pokey had started playing? He would join in. Why the hell not? “We should just fire up some good country or something, see how quick everybody leaves,” he said, grinning as he straightened up. It wasn’t a serious suggestion, because he didn’t want to ruin Jules’s party, but he knew it would at least get tons of groans. “You’ve been here before, right?” he asked as they started out of the kitchen. At this point in their lives in a small-ass town, he kind of assumed everybody had been to everybody’s house, but Ruby said she and Jules weren’t close and he couldn’t remember her being at other Jules parties, so who knew. “Need a tour?”
