"Are you fucking kidding me?" Gavin muttered to himself, then stood there for a few moments looking up and down the street and glancing occasionally at the damned wallet still lying on the ground as the idiot kid rolled away far too fast and with ear plugs in his ears. What he really wanted to do was leave it there because the last thing he wanted to do was be responsible for getting that wallet back to its owners hands. "What do we do?" he grumbled to his dogs and since neither of them could answer he had to make up his own mind.
He finally shuffled closer and leaned down to pick it up, frowning as he flipped it open to make sure it even belonged to Idiot Kid. Maybe he had stolen it and that would be a whole nother headache to deal with. But no, it belonged to the kid whose name was John Jones, a last name that didn't ring any bells with a guy who thought he knew most of the old timers in town even if he had a hard time keeping track of their brats. Of course there wasn't a phone number, no, that would have been too easy. If he trusted his son to actually be an honest person and get it to its owner he'd have dropped it off at Olivia's but Jasper was more likely to pocket the money and toss the wallet away.
Then he found the pay stub and that was something. He really didn't want to go to the police station to let them deal with it but he could stop by the Orion that night and leave it there. So for now it got a place in his coat pocket as he hurried to get away from his least favorite spot in town to take his dogs to the beach.
