Carson and Rylee [Morning After]
"I'm ready if you're ready." As much as she appreciated Vex and Lem's help, she was ready to be back in their own space where they could shower and put on some clean clothes and relax together. She had taken today off for this purpose and she wanted to make sure Carson was feeling okay. "If they're still sleeping I'll leave them a note," she murmured, pulling back so Carson could walk with her to the basement steps. She would text Nick when they got home that Carson was okay and thank him for being so helpful. "We can pick up some food on the way home if you want." She didn't feel like cooking and she doubted Carson did either.
He really did appreciate everything that everyone had done for him overnight, but Carson couldn’t wait to get out of that basement. He just wanted to be home in bed, with a full stomach and Rylee beside him. He started shuffling with Rylee toward the basement stairs. “Oh man, a burger and milkshake sounds amazing,” he said, his empty stomach cramping a bit at just the thought. He hadn’t been able to eat much the day before, and he hadn’t gotten to fill his werewolf belly with anything, so his body was demanding fuel to recover from what it had been through. When they reached the steps, Carson let out a tired little sigh before he started climbing.
She had no idea what his body was feeling right now, but if he was craving a burger and a milkshake, that's what she would get him. Rylee slipped her purse over her head to rest across her body so she wouldn't drop it. Then she slipped her arm around his waist to help him up the stairs. Not that he needed it, but it was more for support in case his legs gave out or something. When they reached the top, the door was already opened from when Rylee had come up to get water and her purse. She found Lem in the kitchen already and Rylee offered the other woman a small smile. "Hey," she said. "Sorry, I hope we didn't wake you."
Lem had been mostly awake anyway, stretched out on the couch that Rylee had vacated and keeping her ears open while she dozed for trouble downstairs. She’d heard Rylee come up into the kitchen and then down again, and when she’d padded in there she could hear two muffled voices, one male. So the werewolf was a man again. Lem perched on the kitchen counter and waited. They eventually came up, and she was glad to see that Carson was whole and seemingly unhurt -- and dressed, that was good too. They both looked super tired, but Lem figured that was probably true of all of them. She gave Rylee a faint smile. “I was up,” she said. “Everybody okay?” Her gaze ticked to Carson.
