Re: Nic and Rylee
“Did she say it like that?” Nic laughed, grinning around his cigarette as he shook his head. It wouldn’t surprise him at all if she had. One of the things he liked about Lem was her honesty, even if it was sometimes crass. “When we were sleepwalking, ‘cause of the dreams, I wandered into the street. She pulled me out of the way of an oncoming car.” And then they’d almost fucked on the side of the street. “We’ve never really talked titles, but… she gets me.” Lem felt more like a girlfriend than any of his official girlfriends ever had. “Did you tell her we used to?” he asked, raising a brow.
"She did," Rylee confirmed with an amused nod. It might have been crass but Rylee didn't care. She could occasionally be as blunt as Lem, depending on the circumstances and her mood. "I'm glad she was there to help you though. It's a bit nerve wracking, knowing Carson was out in the middle of the road without knowing it. I almost wanted to put a bell on him after that." She shook her head and exhaled some smoke into the chilly night air. Lifting a blonde brow at his question she smirked softly. "I didn't tell her, no. It didn't seem important, and I felt like if I said anything, it might come across as... competitive? Some women can be weird around ex-lovers. Lem doesn't seem like the jealous type, but I don't know for sure. Besides, you and me, that was... ages ago, and just our thing, you know?"
“I know,” Nic said with a little laugh. “I don’t think she’d care, but if she did…” He shrugged, pretty sure Rylee got the point. He was asking for the exact reason that she’d decided not to say anything, because some women could be weird. Lem was weird, but not usually like that. He didn’t even think they were exclusive to each other, though it wasn’t like he was hooking up with anyone else. “Zan freaked out about the sleepwalking thing, too. Put all kinds of locks on the doors. We haven’t had anything for a while though. I’m kind of wondering if it’s stopped.” He doubted it, since they could now communicate telepathically, but otherwise it had been quiet. “We needed the break. I can’t imagine dealing with that on top of this.”
Rylee definitely got the point. If her history with Nic was something he felt Lem should know, he would tell her eventually. But there was nothing there now but friendship, and she didn't want to give Lem any reason not to continue helping Carson. "I'm hoping it's stopped," Rylee murmured as she took another drag from her cigarette. "But I don't know. Carson will tell me if anything strange happens again. I'm relieved it's settled for now too, because this already feels like too much. I really appreciate all the help you've given him though. You and Zan... and Lem and Vex, of course. I can't even imagine what we would have done if we didn't have you guys around to get this all taken care of."
Nic wanted to ask Rylee what she thought of them being linked telepathically, but if Carson hadn’t mentioned it, then he wasn’t sure he should. He’d overheard some things that he was sure neither of them would be thrilled about and he didn’t want to risk upsetting Rylee when the night was already stressful enough. It was none of his business anyways. “I’m glad we could help. Though it was really the other Nick, the expert, that was needed— someone that had experience with this kind of thing. How’d you find him? You can’t usually just ask people if they’ve ever dealt with werewolves,” he said with a little laugh.
"Oh, right." Rylee chuckled. She did owe Nick a lot, even though she got the feeling he would probably decline any money or offers of a favor in the future. What that favor would have been, she had no idea, but it always felt right to try and give back something, especially when someone else was helping them this much. "It was actually a nurse who helped Carson when he got bit. They came to talk to me about the fact that they thought it was a werewolf who bit him. I blew it off, of course, thought the guy was crazy." She shook her head and reached down to snuff out of her cigarette. "Once I realized it was possible I went back to talk to him and he gave me Nick's name. I had to track him down from there, but it wasn't difficult. He knows his stuff, obviously."
