Re: Vex and Lem
Lem-hugs were always good and Vex took hold of her arm and gave it a little squeeze. "I bet he's glad too," he replied with a little smirk, even if it wasn't a laughing matter. He still worried a little about Lem after what she'd had to do but that was just it, she'd had to do it. They might both be dead otherwise. He really hoped that took the edge off but it didn't make those damn missing posters any easier to handle. It had been tempting to tear them down but for all his insanity he knew that would be a bad idea. "How's everyone holding up?" he asked since Carson's cousin and Nic had both looked a bit rough.
“He will be, right now he’s not anything,” Lem murmured, sounding pretty grateful about that. It was better that he sleep through the whole thing, for all of them. She gave Vex an extra-hard squeeze, then let go and moved so she could lean against the counter next to him. Lem crossed her arms over her slim chest and hummed a bit. “They’re all right. The girl’s just worried and freaked out by all of this, she was clueless about everything until like, super recently. Nic ... well, he’s okay now. Him and Carson are kinda brain-linked now? Because of all this dream shit? So that change was weird for him, but he says it’s quiet now.”
"That could be useful," Vex said, turning around to lean right next to her, a hot cup of coffee in his hand. "If he starts to wake up, Nic could be our early warning system." He had a shotgun lying around close by, just in case everything else failed but he really did not want to use it. Carson seemed like a good guy and they had a lot of failsafes in place that should prevent him from getting hurt. Vex just didn't want to take any risks with this.
Lem’s eyebrows lifted and then she grinned at him. “Hey that’s true. Didn’t think of that.” If it did happen, she was sure Nic wouldn’t hesitate to warn them, but knowing it was possible ahead of time was an additional layer of comfort. She wasn’t sure if he wanted to stay all night, but every little bit helped. Lem leaned over to put her head against Vex’s chest. “I’m really glad it’s not you in there,” she murmured, quiet so no one else would overhear.
"Me too, firecracker," Vex replied, instinctively wrapping one arm loosely around her. "Even if I always felt like I had a bit of wolf in me, that's not the kind you want." It was a hassle with no benefits as far as he could tell. Just a monthly killing spree unless someone stuck you in a cage and pumped you full of sedatives. At least it was only one night and not two or three, that would have been a real bummer. "How are you holding up?" he asked then. The house was full of people milling about, it made him a little uneasy, he could only imagine Lem was more frustrated.
