Vex and Lem
Vex had watched Carson change with more fascination than he showed. He was starting to feel like he was old hat in this but it was amazing to watch it in a controlled environment. There were too many people in the basement currently and that alone felt a little odd but he forgot all about that when Carson finally succumbed to the beast inside him. Vex stepped forward a bit, then crouched to observe him better now that he was knocked out. Fucking huge beast and not a pretty one. The missing leg was interesting, Vex wasn't sure what he'd expected - some mystic shit to cause the beast to have four legs even if Carson was missing one. He supposed curses couldn't cause miracles.
He straightened up again, well aware that there was at least one person in the room who was shell shocked; Carson's little cousin. She was putting on a brave face but the telltales were there and he was impressed with how calm she was despite it. Vex wasn't ever good with distraught people so he was relieved when Lem took her upstairs and he could focus on the practical end of things. Nick had brought a tranq gun and he wanted to make sure they were all on the same page with how to use it. Nic looked a little green around the gills after everything but Vex didn't question it. It had been gruesome and weird, though Vex was mostly fascinated by it. Sure, he felt bad for the guy, but if they could keep him down and safe until sunrise then that was a win.
He didn't want to spend more time down there than he really needed to. Funnily enough it wasn't the gigantic possibly deadly werewolf that was the problem, it was felt too crowded. He might have stayed the entire night, hovering worriedly if Nic hadn't disguised their barrels as some old junk and even then he didn't much like leaving people down there. At some point he did though, heading upstairs once Lem had come back down, setting up a fresh pot of coffee.
Things had gone smoothly so far this time, and Lem was grateful for it. The last thing she wanted was another dead man in their basement. Especially since he had family there to witness it and everything. She had no idea what they would end up doing with Rylee if they had to kill Carson. So hopefully he would just stay unconscious all night until he was a person again and they wouldn’t have to worry about it.
She felt a little like an Emotional Support Lem, having taken Rylee upstairs for a drink and a chat, then checking on Nic. Apparently being telepathically linked to a werewolf wasn’t the most pleasant thing during a transformation. But Nic was okay, and so far all the rest of them were too. They’d laid out the watch shifts they were going to take to make sure Carson was never alone throughout the night. It was going to be a long one, but they’d all had long nights before. A few minutes after Lem saw Vex go upstairs, she wandered up to follow him. He deserved checking on too. Lem walked up behind him at the counter and slipped her arms around his waist from behind, cheek against his back. “I’m glad we didn’t have to shoot this one,” she murmured.
