Re: Nic and Lem
“I wish I could,” Nic smiled back at Lem, amused by the mind-blown gesture. “That’s such a cool connection to have. I’m glad you found each other.” Being a witch, he used to wonder if he and Zania would have some telepathic twin connection; now he was glad he didn’t have his sister in his head. He certainly didn’t want to be in hers. That being said, he might have preferred his sister over three strangers. “How do you and Vex control it? Like… I have no idea where to even start, but holding my ears definitely didn’t work.” He’d known that even while he was doing it, but it was a natural reaction to loud noise. “Right now we’re kind of… oversharing, if that makes sense.”
She was glad that she and Vex had found each other too, though Lem didn’t believe it had been chance. They’d been brought together for a purpose. Probably several purposes. She didn’t go into all that though, since Nic was asking a simpler question. “We don’t,” she said with a little laugh, lifting one hand to rub it over her head. “He just goes on trips whenever the wave rises to take him somewhere, and if I’m close enough, I get to ride along.” Lem shrugged gently. “They’re always louder and brighter and more clear with me around. He’s the receiver, I just amplify the signal and get to eavesdrop. But we’re not in each other’s heads all the time, so I can see why you’d want to learn to shut it off. Maybe once he’s himself again, you two can practice.” She kissed Nic’s shoulder.
Nic sometimes wondered what kind of things Vex and Lem saw. It sounded kind of trippy, the kind of stuff he might enjoy when he was high, but wouldn’t want to be hit with while walking down the street or driving, especially if they couldn’t control it. But it could also be really cool, as well. “We really should practice,” he said with a little laugh, then kissed the top of her head. “Thank you for doing this. I know it’s a pain and a lot of people you don’t know, but I think it really means a lot to them.” They hadn’t talked about future full moons and what that might look like—Nic knew everyone just wanted to get through this one—but they would probably need to. Carson and Rylee had no place to put a cage, so if Lem and Vex didn’t mind this it might become a regular occurrence.
Lem liked the kiss, as always, but the thanks felt a little weird ... as always. Even though part of this arrangement were uncomfortable, it wasn’t a huge hardship if all went well. They got the guy in the cage, shot him when he became a monster, watched him sleep, then let him out once he was human again. It seemed simple enough. She just hoped things stayed smooth. “Well, it means a lot to me not to have him out on the streets killing people, so it works for all of us,” Lem said, giving a tiny shrug and a smirk, then tilted her face up to kiss the side of Nic’s jaw. “Just glad they had the right connections and we could help. Besides, he looks kinda cool, all knocked out like that.” Lem kind of wanted to prod at the werewolf, examine him and take pictures or something, but she didn’t want to risk waking him up. Maybe during another moon in the future.
Nic grinned, rolling his eyes as he nodded in agreement. When she put it like that, he couldn’t imagine her possibly saying no. Carson had already gone through one full moon with a failed attempt at staying locked up. Nobody wanted that to happen again. “It’s one of the oldest curses out there,” he said, following her gaze towards Carson. “And the only one I know of so far that’s truly unbreakable. It’d be a lot cooler if it came with some of the perks that the movies add in.” It was the lack of control that made Carson such a danger. If there were any other ways to tame him, Nic would look into it, but so far all they could do was lock him up.
