Rylee and Lem
Lem had seen a werewolf before, naturally, because she and Vex had hunted one and got it down to the basement where she ultimately killed it. But watching the transformation from normal human dude -- who’d looked scared as hell the entire time -- into big rage monster had been something else. Lem had held tight to Vex’s hand when the thing howled and then hit the bars. It would have been Nic’s, but both of his were covering his ears as he winced; she could only guess it was from whatever telepathic link they had now. He seemed to recover once Carson was out, so she didn’t fret about it too much. The whole thing was fascinating but also scary, but she guessed it went as well as it could have.
Once the clump of people relaxed a bit and broke apart, Nick taking Vex and Nic off to the side to explain the tranq gun to them since he was apparently leaving soon, Lem focused on Rylee. Nic had said she was Carson’s cousin, and hadn’t known anything about the Weird of life until recently. She looked pale and a little shell shocked as she stared at the unconscious werewolf, and Lem felt bad for her. She approached Rylee’s side, peering into the cage herself for a moment before she looked at the woman’s face. “You want a drink?” she offered quietly.
Rylee had thought she was somewhat prepared for what was coming, but the truth was, she so was not. Not even close. Watching Carson change into that thing had been... physically painful. It had taken every fiber of her being not to run up to the cage and try to help him, but Rylee knew there was nothing she could do. And she couldn't put herself in harm's way because if she had gotten hurt, Carson would have never forgiven himself and things between them would have likely been damaged as well. So she stayed out of the way, fighting back nausea as Nick used the tranq gun and Carson, as a werewolf, fell to the ground.
Even now her heart was still racing. Her skin felt clammy and her stomach hurt. She felt helpless. Useless. But she was going to stay put until Carson was Carson again and she could make sure he was okay. The sound of a female voice jolted Rylee from her thoughts and she looked over to see Lem beside her. Taking a soft breath, Rylee tried to focus, offering Lem a faint smile. "Does it have alcohol?"
Lem was honestly impressed that Rylee managed to smile at all. She studied the other woman, looking up at her face and her pretty hair and wondering just how crazy she must’ve felt right then. “Nothing but,” she answered with a small lip-twitch of her own. She glanced at the sleeping monster, then back at Rylee. “You wanna come upstairs for a few while I get it?” she offered, her voice softer. “Take a little break?” Rylee looked like she needed to sit down before she passed out, and the night had just started, so Carson wasn’t waking up anytime soon.
