There were exactly four things getting Jacob through each day lately, or more accurately four people. Holly Jenkins, Jocelyn Day, Sage Monroe and Connor - whose last name was still a mystery to Jacob. He still hadn't gone out to the tunnel but it was like an ugly siren song in his head every damn day. Tuesday had been particularly hard as he did some more research, battled the urge to go scope the place out and had a slight panic attack thinking about his future. It didn't seem like there was any happy ending in the cards for him and yet... On Wednesday he woke up feeling really happy. Everything was going to go swimmingly, he'd reunited with his friends and he was getting text messages from the hottest guy ever. What was there to be sad about?
He met up with Jocelyn and Sage at the karaoke bar and he had to say he was impressed when he walked inside. It didn't feel like a small town bar at all, fucking shiny and cool. Finding his friends was easy and he slid into the booth next to Jocelyn, leaning in to give her cheek a kiss. "I can't believe you idiots are masochistic enough to make me sing tonight," he teased. "But I can't wait to hear you sing."
Maybe it was the weather, or something in the air, but Sage was having the best day he’d had in a really long time. He’d slept in, cleaned up, the wandered into town because the piano lesson on his schedule cancelled. Then, without really planning to, he splurged on himself and finally bought the new guitar he’d been drooling over for weeks. He didn’t need it, but gods did it make him happy. He spent the rest of the day playing it until it was time to go meet up with Jocelyn and Jacob, which was really just the icing on the cake. “It’ll be great,” Sage grinned. “Even if you’re horrible, it’ll be fun. Sometimes bad karaoke is the best karaoke.” So long as the person singing knew how bad they were and enjoyed it. “Any idea what you want to sing?”
Jocelyn supposed she was having a good day too. She wasn't having a bad day, at least. Realizing she had no real direction in her life at the moment, Jocelyn had decided to try and find a job as not to depend solely on her ever dwindling savings. It hadn't taken her long. She had tried the Back Porch Pub first and was thrilled to find they were hiring... and she was essentially hired on the spot once she inquired about it, and told them she had waitressing experience. And now she was hanging out with her friends, which was the perfect way to end the evening that wasn't getting laid. There was still potential for that too, she supposed.
"Bad karaoke is the best karaoke," Jocelyn corrected Sage after taking a sip of her beer. "And don't sing anything super obscure, because then it's just boring if we can't sing along."
Jacob hummed as he thought about it, then laughed softly. "Oh I gotta sing Johnny Cash," he decided. "Bring out the southern drawl and everythin'." It also meant he could croon and he was fine with crooning, better than trying to belt out something major. "I walk the line," he decided and drummed idly on the table. "What about you guys? Decided anything or are you just gonna browse the menu?" He was going to need a drink first, to 'lubricate' his vocal cords, so to speak, so he looked around for a server, unsure if this was a serve-at-table sort of place or not.
“Everybody loves Johnny Cash,” Sage smiled and took a sip of his beer. Jocelyn was right, the key to karaoke was to sing things that the audience knew, which definitely helped Sage narrow down his selection. Most of the music he loved wasn’t the karaoke-singing sort, but Sage also knew a lot of music from a lot of generations. “I’m considering Bohemian Rhapsody, but it really depends on the crowd. That’s only fun if I can get the whole room involved.” He wasn’t entirely sure he could hit the high notes, but he didn’t really care tonight. What he needed was a little more to drink and for the party to truly get started.
Jocelyn laughed. "I'm allowed to record you guys, right?" There was someone up there singing 'Bad Moon Rising' and they weren't half bad, though she was amused by the guy holding his beer up into the air as he sang. Fun drunks were the best drunks. "I don't even know what I want to sing," she said after setting her beer on table. "I'm going to need at least two more drinks, maybe three, before you can get my ass up there. Maybe I'll go country. You think 'Before He Cheats' by Carrie Underwood will get me laid tonight?"
"Everyone sings along to Bohemian Rhapsody," Jacob snickered. "That song is magic, like real fairy stuff, no gay pun intended." He'd even sing along and he was mouthing along to the song currently being sung so it wasn't farfetched to think he'd really go all out to a song he knew the lyrics of. "I don't any country songs," he told Jocelyn. "You're gonna have to sing it to find your answer." Normally he'd veto the country vibe but he was in a really good mood and he was pretty sure Joss could make anything sound cool. "Let's get drinks, sober karaoke is the worst."
“Record all you want, but no Facebook posting,” Sage smiled. He was fine with acting like a drunken idiot in front of his friends, but the rest of the internet didn’t need to see it too. “I’m pretty sure you could sing whatever you want and still get laid,” he laughed. “Even country music.” Because it was Jocelyn. Country music wasn’t his thing, but it was hard to Sage to imagine her doing anything that would ruin those chances if she wanted it. “Drinks,” he agreed, waving down a waitress. “What’re you guys drinking?”
Jacob nodded along and gave Jocelyn a knowing look. She could fuck whoever she wanted, he was pretty sure. The thing was, did she want to fuck someone in this bar? The hottest guy in there at the moment was Sage and that might be weird considering they were friends. Then again, maybe she had a thing for older guys - like Jacob did. "Pineapple sting," he decided on a whim when the waitress showed up. "Let's get a little tropical vibe up in this gray winter night here." And lots of alcohol in their bodies so they could go sing. Sage might be used to the stage but Jacob wasn't. He was less shy than he'd used to be but still, singing was a whole other matter.
"No social media, I promise," Jocelyn said, crossing her finger over her heart. "I'll keep it for sentimental reasons... or blackmail, I don't know yet." With her beer nearly done, she considered her options before ordering a whiskey sour. A couple of those in her system and she would probably sing just about anything. "You know you've got to go first," she told Sage. "You're the rock star here, we're just amateurs who can only hold a tune in the shower."
“You don’t wanna blackmail me,” Sage laughed. “I don’t have anything you want.” Not that he was worried about it, not with Jocelyn. He shook his head as Jacob ordered, amused with his choice, then ordered himself a Jack and Coke. “That seems dangerous. The fruity stuff makes me sick.” Probably because he could down them so easily that he drank way too many. And there was nothing worse than throwing up pineapple juice. Jack and Coke was safer, but just as boozy. “You think this crowd’s ready for me?” he snickered. “I get to make a fool of myself sober?”
"Well I'm pretty sure I'm fruitier than you," Jacob joked dead-pan and raised his glass in a little toast. It didn't feel like anything could go wrong tonight, it was one of those golden days where things just turned out right, he could feel it in his bones. "You're not going to make a fool of yourself," he added once he'd had his sip. "You practically live on stage, right? It's your calling or whatever. You'll do great. I should probably go before you do because I'll look bad enough without having your performance to live up to." He wasn't going to though, he was content to sit there for a while longer and drink more.
Jocelyn chuckled at Jacob's joke. She needed to finish off her beer before her whiskey sour arrived. "I want someone to duet with me, that way I'm not up there like a jackass all by myself." Sage was the one with all the talent, so she would be fine recruiting Jacob to sing terribly beside her. With one beer gone, and another drink on the way, she had a feeling she would have plenty of confident to grab that microphone soon. At the moment she was pretty comfortable sitting with her friends and pretending like everything in their lives was normal. "But I do want to see you rock," she told Sage. "It's been forever since I heard you sing."
“I’ll sing with you, if you want,” Sage offered to Jocelyn without even knowing what she had in mind. She could pick something ridiculous and he’d still probably offer, feeling too good today not to. He finished his beer, then stood, deciding that he might as well kick them off, even if he hadn’t had much to drink yet. Jacob was right; of all of them, he was the most comfortable on stage, and he really didn’t have to be drunk to sing. “Let’s get this party started,” he grinned, moving towards the stage as the previous singer finished up. “I expect you both to sing along.”
"Of course," Jacob exclaimed and knocked back his drink. He didn't sing along though, scooting closer to Jocelyn when Sage started singing. "I have to show you something," he said as he opened the messages on his phone. It was something he hadn't intended to show anyone but he felt cheerful and excited today and the need to share was pretty intense, that bond he missed sharing with friends since leaving Erin behind in Portland. The messages he showed her were between him and Connor, both pictures. One was of Jacob's wrist, bruised, with the message, 'hard not to think of you' and the real reason he was showing her was the message he got back, a picture of Connor grabbing his crotch, cropped so only his hand was showing and that bulge in his pants. 'Hard thinking about you' he'd replied and it had made Jacob feel ridiculously giddy. "Who'd have thought I'd get laid back home," he murmured, glancing over at the stage where Sage was singing.
Jocelyn grinned and watched Sage head up to the stage. Jacob moving in close to her drew her attention and she glanced over at his phone. Her eyes widened and she looked at Jacob, lips parting in surprise. "Who is that?" she asked, trying to decide if she was supposed to be angry on his behalf for the bruise, or if that was something Jacob was into. "How the hell did this happen so fast? I mean, you just got here." Her laughter was muffled as she took a drink of her whiskey sour, her gaze drifting back down to the pictures, because yum.
"He's my white whale," Jacob gushed as he looked at the phone again. He hadn't really expected Connor to text him in the first place but then he had and he just felt stupid about it. Especially today apparently. "He's from Portland and he came here because of some family issues and oh my God, I finally got him." He bit his lip as he looked at the picture and god, he wanted to leave already and head to his place, see if he was busy. But no, he was staying here and singing with his friends, no matter how bad it got. He waved down their waitress for another drink, then started watching Sage again. Bohemian Rhapsody really was a catchy song and before he knew it he was singing along.
His white whale. She could see a faint flush in Jacob's face as he spoke and Jocelyn raised a brow before smirking behind her glass. "Talk about convenient timing," she murmured, amused. She wanted to know more about Jacob's new friend, but that could wait until after they've cheered on their friend. Jocelyn lifted her glass, swaying back and forth against Jacob as she began to sing with them. Bohemian Rhapsody was a long enough song, and a fun one, that Jocelyn had time to finish off her drink and order another when Jacob's was delivered. It gave her a bit of time to choose her own karaoke song as well.
"Did he realize how fucking long this song is?" Jacob tittered as Sage finally reached the 'Nothing really matters' part and then he cheered wildly as he finished, whistling and clapping for him. "You're amazing! We love you!" He had promised they'd play groupies, right?
"It's long but it's amazing," Jocelyn countered, still smiling when Sage finished. She stood up, her arms raised as she cheered. Then she drank the rest of her whiskey sour and set the glass down before placing a kiss on the top of Jacob's head. Jocelyn scooted around the table and squeezed Sage's arm before brushing by him to head for the stage. She had a couple drinks in her already, and she was feeling pretty damn good, so singing terribly in front of a room full of people sounded like a really great idea.
Sage had forgotten how fucking long the song was until he was up there and it seemed to go on forever. On the plus side, everyone was singing along and he was having a fantastic time, so he wasn’t going to complain. There was something about this place that just made you feel good, no matter what you sang. Either that or Sage just had a knack for picking the perfect song every time. He grinned as his friends cheered for him, a bounce in his step as he returned to the table. “God, I love that,” he laughed as he took his seat. “She decided on something?” he asked, watching as Jocelyn took the stage. Maybe she was going to sing her country song. Whatever it was, she’d be great.
"I have no idea," Jacob admitted with a little laugh. "Guess we'll find out! You were good, man. Even better than I remembered." He was willing to bet his instrument playing had gotten better too if he had kept at it all these years, much like Jacob's art. Practice made perfect and all that and it often had more to do with skill than talent. He turned his attention to the stage as Jocelyn got up there, clapping and whistling again.
Jocelyn didn't go for country this time around, but settled on Like a Virgin by Madonna. It was a karaoke staple, after all, like Bohemian Rhapsody and Jocelyn had always loved belting out Madonna in her car back in the day. Everything felt really good, like she could just sing forever. Maybe Sage wasn't the only 'rock star' after all. It was likely a mixture of everything, the good day she'd had, spending time with her closest friends and the alcohol. Definitely the alcohol. It made it so easy for Jocelyn to forget she was back home where so many bad memories dwelled. Instead, she was home making better memories.
“Thanks,” Sage grinned, sipping at his drink. “It’s not even really my style of music, but it’s fun, you know? You get up there and people start singing along and you just feel the music.” He shouldn’t have even been worried about not having anything to drink yet. Just being on stage gave him a rush. “Oh my god,” he laughed when Jocelyn’s music started up. He didn’t have to listen to a lot of Madonna to know the song. Everyone knew the song. And it was so much better than anything country and also so… Jocelyn. “Could she get any hotter?” he laughed. “I mean, she could have any guy in here. Except you,” he said, giving Jacob a little wink.
"Oh I don't know," Jacob said with a grin. "She might get to one of the bases with me under the right circumstances." Not many but yeah, he'd always had a somewhat platonic crush on Jocelyn because she was awesome. "I was beat, incomplete," he sang along and man did those lyrics ring true. "I'd been had, I was sad and blue but you made me feel." He started laughing again, clutching Sage's arm dramatically as he watched Jocelyn sing.
Since Jocelyn didn't really care about anyone else in the bar, she sang directly to Sage and Jacob, more than happy to 'vamp it up' for them. They were singing along and she pointed at them, clearly feeling Madonna's mantra of feeling shiny and new. The best part of karaoke was never having to take oneself seriously. And having friends there to join in, even with the silliest of songs. By the time the song was ending, Jocelyn was already wondering what other songs she could terrorize before the night was over. She certainly still wanted to do a duet with Sage, at least. She reluctantly returned the microphone and walked down off the stage to rejoin her friends. Her new whiskey sour was waiting for her on the table. "I forgot how much fun this is," she said breathlessly, slipping into a chair beside Sage and reaching for her drink. "I should probably get ready for a global tour."
“Everyone’s a little bi under the right circumstances,” Sage laughed, even though it was hard to imagine Jacob with a woman at this point. Especially when he was singing along to Madonna, though Sage found himself joining in too. It was just too catchy, especially with Jocelyn leading the sing-a-long. When she finished, he clapped and cheered, aware he was a little over the top, but who the fuck cared. “You’d sell out stadiums,” he told her as she rejoined their table. “People would be climbing over each other just to get closer to the stage. The next Taylor Swift.” She was charismatic enough that he could see her having a similar legion of groupies, at least. “What’ve you got for us, Jacob?” he asked, since his turn should be up next.
"Johnny Cash," Jacob replied though all the singing was making him feel more confident in actually singing something instead of crooning. He'd made his decision though so he knocked back the rest of his drink and - since nobody else went on stage in the meantime - got up and pressed a kiss on Jocelyn's head and then Sage's too because why the hell not. He was feeling far closer to them now, especially with all the alcohol in his system. "Watch me tear it up," he all but purred at them before jogging up to the stage to see if they actually had Cash.
Jocelyn snorted happily into her drink at Sage's praise. She was still drinking when Jacob stood and kissed the top of her head. Then she let out a cheer even before he began to sing. She had to be supportive! "We're going to sing together next," Jocelyn told Sage. This particular drink would be empty by then. Not that she needed a lot of alcohol to sing again, given how fun it had been the first time. Other people probably wanted a shot at the microphone, but screw it! The night was young.
Sage laughed when Jacob kissed the top of his head and blew him a kiss in response. He’d loosened up a lot since going to college and it looked good on him. And even if he’d seemed reluctant to sing last week, now he was definitely gung ho. “What do ya wanna sing?” he asked, leaning into her a little, almost snuggling up, except there was enough distance between them that he wasn’t quite there. It was nice to be close to her and he just couldn’t help himself. Today was fucking awesome and he felt like a rockstar.
Jocelyn set her glass on the table and slipped her arm over Sage's shoulders to lean in towards him. She liked touching her friends, even more so tonight, and Sage did smell rather good. She felt bad that she had been gone so long and never stayed in proper touch, but now it felt like they had never actually left and everything was exactly as it had been in high school... without the trauma, of course. "We can't do anything hokey," she told him. "Let's do something fun, like.... fucking Under Pressure or something. Whatever you want. Just god, please, no songs from Grease."
“No. No way,” Sage laughed, leaning into her, enjoying the chance to be close to her. He was usually a little more careful, not wanting to do anything that might screw up their friendship, but it really didn’t seem like a big deal tonight. “Grease is overdone and so, so campy. And I make a horrible John Travolta. We could totally do Under Pressure, or, oh shit, we could do something like The Boy is Mine and serenade Jacob.” It was so ridiculous, but it wasn’t all lovey-dovey, which seemed to be the theme of most of the duets that came to mind. They were all stupidly romantic or country and he’d already decided no to country, even with Jocelyn.
Jacob was having fun with Johnny Cash, droning out Walk the Line and feeling unusually good about his performance. He wouldn't have thought karaoke could be this much fun but his chest was swelling with good feelings and he really felt like he was rocking this song. "Yes I'll admit that I'm a fool for you," he sang and pointed at Jocelyn because it was always fun to play-flirt with someone without any risks. At the end of the song he took a sweeping bow and laughed as he hopped down from the stage. The only reason he didn't do another song right away like he wanted was because Jocelyn and Sage needed to sing more.
"I am not opposed to serenading Jacob," Jocelyn said. She rested her head briefly on Sage's shoulder and smiled at their friend on stage while he sang. It was strange, but nice, to see Jacob loosen up that way, when he was usually so reserved. But alcohol and karaoke had that effect on people. Alcohol and almost anything had that effect on people. When he finished, Jocelyn cheered enthusiastically as she had done with Sage. "You want another round?" Jocelyn asked, motioning to the glasses on the table. "On me. We can take a quick break and let other people sing before we hog the microphone again."
Sage would have never believed Jacob could perform like he did without seeing it with his own eyes and he clapped and cheered for him as he finished, impressed with the show. “You were fantastic!” He grinned as Jacob returned to the table. “I didn’t even know you could sing!” Maybe it was the alcohol that gave him the confidence to get up there, but now that Sage knew he could sing, and Jocelyn as well, they’d have to sing karaoke more often. This could be a thing. “I won’t say no to that,” he smiled. “You get this round and I’ll get the next.” As fun as this was, Sage could see them staying till they kicked them out.
"Fuck, I didn't know I could sing either," Jacob exclaimed happily as he sat down. "And yeah, this pineapple shit is amazing, another one of those, please and thank you." He had started learning that different kinds of alcohol affected him in different ways but he'd never been on a happy high from drinking Vodka before so maybe it was the pineapple or whatever else they put in that drink. Or maybe it was just one of those rare amazing days. "I just need to learn to play something and we could start a band, we're amazing, all of us." The Cooperdale three came to mind and it was a horrible thing to think and yet it made him snicker. Nothing seemed to upset him tonight, nothing at all.
There was probably more drinking and singing than any of the three of them intended, but the night had been going so well and everyone felt so good. Jocelyn couldn't remember the last time she'd had so much fun, completely uninhibited. She was feeling so much love for her two friends and Jocelyn made a promise to herself that when she left town again she would keep in touch with both of them. Unfortunately the karaoke bar had to close eventually and they were the last table shooed out of the bar. It was cold outside, but Jocelyn was still smiling, warmed by the good feelings, not to mention the liquor she'd consumed. She knew she needed to figure out how to get home in one piece, but it made her sad on a weird level to part ways with Jacob and Sage after such a fun night. "I had so much fun," Jocelyn said, wishing the bars in this damn town didn't always close so early. She suddenly wrapped both arms around Jacob's shoulders and kissed him soundly on the mouth. It was meant to be a peck on the cheek goodnight, but fuck it. He deserved kisses.
It seemed crazy to say, but this was probably the most fun Sage had had in forever. Since high school, maybe. Which was a little sad, but he wasn’t going to say it out loud. He was with friends he loved and trusted, doing something that he’d always been passionate about. It was how he imagined he’d feel after a real concert, should he ever get to have one, and he wasn’t sure how he could possibly come down from the high, even after they left the bar. “Me too,” he laughed. “We should totally do this again sometime.” Then Jocelyn kissed Jacob, and Sage rocked back on his heels, surprised and amused. He didn’t know where that had come from, but was one hundred percent certain it was due to the alcohol.
Jacob didn't even question it, it just felt natural to kiss Jocelyn, she was his best friend and they were going home alone without anyone to make out with, why not get some of that out of their systems before they left? He smiled against her lips and wrapped his arms around her, pulling her in close. It was nice on more levels than just physical intimacy because she was warm and it was fucking cold. He just wished Connor wasn't working so he could come pick him up and warm him up properly. "I love you guys," he murmured against her lips and stretched one arm out to Sage to try and grab hold of him and pull him into the love fest.
It was like she was back in high school all of the sudden, smooching on Jacob in a purely platonic manner the way she used to back in the day. She used to kiss on Grayson too, though in a slightly less platonic manner, but she didn't want to think about that right then. Everything felt so nice for once that she didn't want to bring anyone down. Returning Jacob's smile with one of her own, Jocelyn rested her head on Jacob's shoulder, turning her face to look at Sage. Her own hand joined Jacob's in reaching out for their friend. "Nothing warms you up quicker than a kiss from a friend," she teased.
Sage was just drunk enough that he was willing to roll with it, not at all considering the possible repercussions of kissing his friends, if any. He’d wanted to kiss Jocelyn for years, so he might as well take the chance while he had one. And Jacob, well… that was a newer attraction and not one he was even willing to acknowledge. It wasn’t like it mattered; they were just having fun. Sage was feeling good enough that he’d have kissed anyone in the bar that wanted a kiss, so if his friends were going to drag him in, he wasn’t going to say no. “I am freezing,” he laughed softly, then pressed his lips to Jocelyn’s, all the while holding tight to Jacob.
They looked so pretty together and Jacob grinned, feeling a little hazy with the alcohol. He dipped in to kiss Sage's neck, it just felt right, then rested his head against his shoulder and gave him a little squeeze. He was feeling tired but happy and the only reason to break this all up was that he wanted to get in a warm car soon. His phone buzzed, a reply from Connor to a text Jacob had sent him minutes ago and he untangled himself from the others just enough to read it, snickering softly. Connor was perfect, so were Joss and Sage. This night was perfect. "I gotta reply to this," he murmured, kissing Sage's neck again - then Joss's - before pulling back.
Repercussions felt non-existent in the moment. They were all feeling nicely drunk and happy and the kisses certainly helped warm her up as they stood outside in the cold. Sage's lips felt different from Jacob's, not definitely not in a bad way. She had smooched on Jacob plenty in the past but she had never kissed Sage before, so it was a new experience that she quite enjoyed. The only thing to distract her from it was when Jacob pulled away, the heat of his body gone. Jocelyn broke away from Sage's mouth, but didn't let him go. "Can you believe that? He's left us to answer a text," Jocelyn teased. "I'm thinking he's got a boy on the other end of it, Sage. What else could be more important than us?"
For as often as Sage used to think about kissing Jocelyn, he never thought he would actually do it. If he hadn’t been in such a happy, drunken haze, he’d probably be freaking out about now. Instead, he just wanted to cuddle and pouted a little with Jacob pulled away, immediately missing his warmth. “Definitely a boy,” Sage snickered, watching Jacob as he rested his head against Jocelyn’s. “I didn’t know he had one though. He’s been holding out on us.”
"I have not," Jacob laughed before remembering he hadn't shown Sage the texts earlier, only Jocelyn. "And he's not a boy," he added cheekily, pocketing his phone again to snuggle back up against his friends. "He's a doctor and he's hot as hell." His white whale. Normally he wouldn't gush about a guy like this because he didn't have any faith that it would last but tonight he was pretty confident everything was going to work out perfectly and even if it didn't, he had Jocelyn and Sage and he was too damn happy to care if he was single or not. "God, you guys look so cute together," he blurted out because they did look adorable all snuggled up together. He didn't think there were boundaries to respect though so he leaned in and kissed them both on the lips, first Jocelyn, then Sage. It just felt good to kiss people and there was no reason not to.
Of course they looked cute together. They were all attractive people, right? Plus, Sage was warm and Jocelyn didn't want to pull away and get chilly again. Besides, Jacob kissing Sage was pretty hot. "Careful," she teased Jacob. "You don't want to make your doctor jealous." For a second she considered dragging Sage home with her. Not even to have sex, but just to make him sleep in her bed with her. It would suck to go home alone and wake up alone after such a fun night, but she wasn't sure her parents would be as receptive to that as they might have been with Jacob. They didn't have to worry about Jacob tarnishing their daughter's reputation under their own roof.
Sage was having a hard time recalling why kissing on his friends was a bad idea, even if a little voice in the back of his head was screaming at him. All he could really think about was how good Jocelyn smelled and how he wanted another taste of Jacob, something he’d never really considered before that moment. “Mm, sexy doctor man,” Sage snickered, impressed. “We need pictures. And a ride. Or something. It’s fucking cold out here.” It wouldn’t be so bad if he was moving, but even curled against Jocelyn he could feel the wind finding it’s way into his coat. “Wanna share an uber?” He asked, pulling out his phone.
"Yeah," Jacob was quick to agree because it meant less money since they didn't live all that far from each other. He was tempted to go home with Jocelyn so he wouldn't have to sleep alone but he'd go home tonight because he couldn't use her as a crutch all the damn time so why get addicted to it? "We can use my account, buy me drinks later." It let him use his phone again without them teasing him about sending more random crap to Connor so that worked out pretty perfectly. "We have to do this again," he murmured as he opened the app. He didn't really have pictures of Connor to share - save for the one he'd sent him - and it didn't feel right to go showing his Grindr or Fetlife profile to them, he wasn't quite drunk enough to cross that line.
Jocelyn nodded and stayed in close to Sage, since it looked like Jacob was taking care of requesting one. They could have probably walked if they really wanted to, but it was chilly and they had all been drinking and this was Point Pleasant. "We'll definitely do this again," she told them, bouncing lightly on her heels to stay warm. "You can bring Dr. Doctor next time so we can all make eyes at him." She had no idea what he looked like, but if Jacob was hooking up with him, he was probably pretty hot.
“I love you guys,” Sage said with a happy smile as he snuggled against Jocelyn. He’d known it would be nice to see them again when they came into town, but this really went above and beyond his expectations. It made him wish they’d never left, even while he envied their ability to do so. While they could all probably walk home, it would’ve left them going in different directions at some point, so this was way better. This way they’d be safe and warm in a car and together, and the longer that lasted the happier he’d be.
