Re: Jasper/Jules/Amelia
Amelia didn't know how she was going to tackle all the years she'd missed at school and she really didn't want to think about it all tonight. It was depressing. She shook her head, then shrugged, drinking some more of her beer. "Maybe I'll sweet talk dad's girlfriend into teaching me some stuff," she said. Charlie was a teacher but even if she was willing, Amelia wasn't sure she'd understand half of the stuff even the freshmen were learning. "I don't think I'll ever graduate or anything but dad said we'd figure something out."
Good as he was feeling, Jasper made a little face at Amelia’s reference to their dad’s girlfriend. It wasn’t that he didn’t want Gavin to have someone in his life or anything, but why did it have to be Ms. Harris? Jasper was really close to failing her class, and he was sure they talked about how much he sucked at English and what an At Risk student he was in general and all that. It irritated him irrationally, but at least that feeling was kind of muted tonight. He took his arm off of Amelia so he could take a swig from the beer bottle in his hand, and rubbed his thumb over Jules’s knuckles. “My dad’s apparently dating Ms. Harris,” he filled her in with an eyeroll. “But yeah, we haven’t figured the rest out yet.” He made a vague gesture at Amelia.
Jules's brows rose in surprise and she smiled almost instantly. "Aw, that's awesome. I mean, weird to have your dad dating a teacher, but also... aw!" She couldn't help it! Jules liked Ms. Harris and why wouldn't she be happy for Jasper and Amelia's dad if he got to be in love too. "I bet she would totally help you," Jules told Amelia, not really registering Jasper's annoyance with the relationship. "She's so nice, and pretty too, which is always weird to think about for teachers, right? But yeah, good for your dad. And you, if she's able to get you like, up to speed academically? Not that there's a ton to know, because seriously, when will I ever use geometry after I get out of this place? They want to fill your head with all these facts and formulas and stuff, but what's to stop anyone from just pulling up their phone to find the answers to things anymore." Jules sighed and shook her head. "I bet you're going to be fine though. Life experience is more important than quizzes and essays, if you ask me."
It was all so positive and cheerful, Amelia couldn't help but be swept along while also wondering just how on earth her brother had gotten together with someone this chipper. Jasper had always been kind and protective of her but she still knew him and his moods and Jules just seemed like someone who would annoy him. Love was weird, she guessed. "I always liked my teachers," she said with a smile. "Back in school." She supposed she had sort of teachers wherever the hell she'd grown up, she'd learned a lot of things at least. Had they been nice? Maggie... had been, but she also hadn't been. It was weird to think about and for a moment sadness rolled over her and she gave Jasper a little squeeze to dispel it. "Enough about school, tell me about the dance!"
Jules had no doubt that she had annoyed Jasper in the beginning. He had annoyed her too. Maybe they still annoyed each other sometimes, just on different levels. Being in love dulled it a bit, probably. She knew she had moments where she wasn't chipper or sweet but tonight had felt really, really good and she wanted everyone to feel as lovely as she did. Jules looked at Jasper when Amelia asked about the dance, but he was looking expectantly at her so she returned her attention to Amelia, figuring out that she should probably answer this one. "Well, an ex-boyfriend of mine came out as gay, which I already knew, but not many others did, so that was a big thing. I mean, basically Jasper and I just danced a lot after we had sex in the biology room. So, I mean, we had a lot of fun." She heard the words coming out of her mouth even if her brain hadn't really caught up to them. It felt like Too Much but also, not? Like being honest was the theme of the night after everything that had happened.
