Re: Sabrina & Mak
Sabrina didn't want to think about any of the future stuff. She barely knew what she was doing tomorrow, let alone in six months. All she wanted was for Mak to do something amazing, and that was only going to happen if she got the fuck out of Point Pleasant. Sabrina was self aware enough to know that she would only hold Mak back. It wasn't a self pity kind of thing, it just was. She heard Mak's words and smiled, even if everything else inside of her seemed to tense up and flail. The words were still nice to hear, as she rarely heard them ever. Sabrina kissed Mak's cheek and nuzzled her for a moment. "Do you want to go home? Or still go to the bonfire?" she asked quietly. "I mean... if you still want to stay over?"
They weren’t smart words to say, especially considering the conversation they were having, but Mak felt them down to her bones. Her mother had told her a lot that lover at her age was fleeting and unstable, because teenagers were still learning who they were, but that didn’t make it invalid. And for whatever it was worth, she loved Sabrina. It was impossible for her to miss that Sabrina didn’t say it back, but that seemed okay to Mak at the moment. She didn’t have to; Mak had just wanted her to know how she felt. She pulled back to look at Sabrina, nodding and smiling a little. “I still want to stay over. But I mean, yeah, if you’re still good with going to the bonfire, I wanna go,” she answered. If Sabrina didn’t, they could go home, but Mak knew it would be fun to see everybody in an unchaperoned setting.
Sabrina had a hard time recognizing love, or even feeling it. The concept just felt...too good to be true. It was hard to explain and she didn't want to try in that moment and risk making it worse for the both of them. But Sabrina cared about Mak a lot, and she hoped that was enough. "Yeah, we can still totally go," Sabrina told Mak with a smile. "It'll be fun." And maybe they could just put the past ten minutes behind them until much, much later. Mak didn't look super upset or anything, so that was something. And if they surrounded themselves with a bunch of Mak's friends, even better. Tomorrow everything would be better. "Want to dance some more? Or get something else to drink or eat?"
It was probably strange that Mak didn’t feel more upset. It wasn’t that she’d already been dreaming of marrying Sabrina and adopting ten kids or anything like that, she just wasn’t ready to think about The End yet. So it had been a dumb question to ask in the first place, probably, but she didn’t seem to have much control over dumb shit coming out of her mouth at the moment. She gave a faint smile back, then nodded a bit. “Another round of punch, then more dancing,” she decided, giving Sabrina one more squeeze before she let go to take her hand instead. The next smile came easier, and she felt that goodness start to seep back into her soul.
It was probably a bit cynical of Sabrina, but she tended to always look for The End at the beginning of nearly everything she did. Things rarely ever lasted. It wasn't something she moped around about. It just made her appreciate the things she did have more. And she knew no matter what happened, Mak would always be a part of her life, even if they weren't together. But right now they were, and she wanted to enjoy it. Sabrina slipped her fingers through Mak's to walk with her to the refreshments table, aware that something seemed to be trying to seep through the Good Feelings, but thankfully failed. Tonight was about fun, after all. Not talks about the future and all that. The conversation was already fading fast and Sabrina squeezed Mak's hand, ready to forget all about it and finish the night off on a high note.
