Jules and Jasper
Jasper had been assured that this dance wasn’t as formal as Homecoming, so he’d opted just for a pair of darker-colored khakis and a nice dark red button down shirt. Amelia had helped him pick them out, along with a suit of his own for later in the year. All of it actually fit him, which felt kind of strange for a guy who was used to wearing most of his clothes a bit baggy. But Jules had seemed to approve when he picked her up, and that was all that mattered.
The dance had been going okay so far, just a standard low-key sort of dance. Jasper was happy to be there with Jules, even if that meant having to deal with her friends hovering around every so often to talk to her, but he was looking forward to the bonfire afterward even more. It would be even more casual, with a few people there whom he actually liked, and Amelia was coming. He was going to get to introduce her to Jules, and he was pretty excited for that. Until then though, he had to hang out and dance a bit and keep getting them punch like a good boyfriend.
Somewhere around seven, as they were standing in a loose group of people talking about stuff he wasn’t interested in, a really good feeling slowly started washing over him. It was warm and kind of diffused happiness through his whole body. Jasper started to feel really glad to be there, in the decorated gym with the pop music and all the people he usually didn’t like. It was nice ... really nice, and he reached to take Jules’s hand, just to touch her skin.
Jules knew how much these dances weren't really Jasper's thing, so she was pleased and grateful that he had agreed to go with her. She had never really had a problem with his wardrobe, but she had to admit he looked really good all cleaned up and wearing a button down and khakis and it made her eager to see what he looked like in a tux once prom rolled around. She was having fun, wearing a knee length white dress with an open back and overlay of lace. It wasn't super formal or informal, but in her mind, struck a nice balance in between. Jules had so many dresses in her closet that she rarely got to wear, so she was happy for an excuse to put something new on.
She was careful with the punch through most of the night, not wanting to drip or spill any on her dress, but she finished every cup Jasper brought her until she grew tired of holding a plastic cup in her hand. It was sometime after seven when Jules started feeling really good. Almost drunk in a non-dizzy kind of way and she felt the overwhelming desire to just hug all of her friends. They were the best, even when they were annoying her, and she didn't feel like she told them she loved them enough. The feel of Jasper's hand slipping into hers drew her attention away from them, she wasn't even sure what they were blathering on about now, and she turned toward her boyfriend to pay him some adequate attention. Smiling, Jules stepped in towards him, keeping her hand in his as her other arm slipped around his neck.
"Thank you for coming," she murmured, pressing a quick kiss to his lips. "I know you hate these things, and my friends and everything. But you look really hot and I really wish we could find like, an empty classroom or something." The music in the gym was loud enough that she didn't think anyone would actually hear her, not that she cared if they did, but still. It would probably benefit her to make sure Jasper had a good time so he wouldn't be super opposed to coming with her to the others.
