Phee wasn’t thinking about the sex part, really, just that she wanted to date Greg, and her parents didn’t hate him, so why would it be a problem, right? It wasn’t like she was going to plop the subject of birth control right onto her father’s lap when she told him about this whole thing. She was just used to getting her way, and she couldn’t imagine her dad denying her what she wanted. “I’ll start working out my eyelids now,” she answered with a little laugh. “And no worries, I won’t tell him until after that. Just in case.” It might end up getting her in trouble, but Phee didn’t care. She didn’t think it was a big risk, but she still didn’t want to risk getting to go.
Aurie got moving again and Greg wished he didn't. He was enjoying standing there with his girl talking shit, even if it was cold out. "Well, you know? I really hope you're right," he said. "But yeah, good plan. No outing me as your boyfriend until Sunday. Or maybe Wednesday, then he won't think about how we were probably already dating at the dance. When you spent the night with your friend. Does he even know Jen?" Shit, man Greg hoped James would just leave town. He did that often enough.
Not outing Greg until well after the dance was probably the best idea. Now that she’d told her mother about it, she didn’t really feel like she was keeping something a secret from her parents. Telling one was as good as telling both, right? Right. “Yeah, he met her like, in passing when she spent the night,” she said, walking along with him. “So they know she’s a real person and all. I think they’re just happy that I finally have like, friends to hang out with now.” Granted, she wasn’t hanging out with said friend as much as she was saying she was, but that was okay. Jen was still her friend, and they would be hanging out some more.
"A real human being," Greg said jovially, reminded of a song from some movie. "You had friends before," he added with a little scoff. At least she'd never sat alone, he was sure if she'd been all alone in the cafeteria, Bash would have taken her under his wing or something but she sat with that Liam guy a lot and some other people. "You just didn't have an awesome boyfriend like me!" He grinned and raised his chin high and proud, only half-joking since he seemed to be making her pretty damn happy.
“I did, but like, none that I hung out with a lot out of school or spent the night with much or anything,” Phee explained. She shrugged her shoulders. She hadn’t really had a Best Friend, especially not a girl, and she’d mostly been okay with that, but now it was really nice to have someone she wanted to hang out with that much. And she’d totally just adopted Jen as her best friend without bouncing it off of her first, but whatever. They were getting closer to her house, and Phee heaved a little sigh, moving her hand to thread her fingers together with Greg’s. “You are an awesome boyfriend,” she added, bumping shoulders with him. “Guess I’ll keep you around for a while.”
"Good," Greg replied, easing out of her grip enough to move to stand in front of her once they'd stopped. "You want to ride in with me tomorrow?" he asked, stroking her hand with his thumb. Asking was more of a formality at this point, he was happy to give her a ride every day, whether or not Bash was with them or not and it wouldn't be the first time since Bash's car didn't do well in snow and Phee didn't have her own yet. Of course James might catch on sooner if he kept picking her up but hey, he could offer Bash a ride too.
