WEATHER AND NOTABLE EVENTS Thursday, September 7-Saturday, September 9
Thursday, September 7: Weather: Sunny; 68°/57°
EVENTS
→ The pieces of a body found near Cooperdale Tunnel has been collected and is in the process of being identified. The police had taped off the area as a crime scene and have asked all residents to stay clear until their investigation is complete.
→ News has spread that 'The Blackwater Butcher' has returned to Point Pleasant. Needless to say, there are plenty of people who are not happy about this and still believe in his guilt, overturned conviction or not. Regardless, news of his return has reinvigorated rumors and stories about Blackwater Woods and morbid curiosity has drawn quite a few people there just to 'have a look'.
→ Jeffrey Looms, a gas station attendant, was found killed by a co-worker early in the morning. An investigation is underway, but initial speculation is that Looms was an unfortunate victim of an animal attack. The PPPD will release more information as they receive it.
→ Speaking of which, there have been reports and sightings the evening before of what appears to have been large rabid dog running loose in Point Pleasant. Animal Control has been called and can be seen around town searching for the animal, to no avail.
Friday, September 8: Weather: Cloudy and windy. Around 10pm, a terrible thunderstorm rolls into town and lasts throughout the night; 69°/49°
EVENTS
→ Come out and support your Chamberlain Wolves football team tonight at 7pm as they take on the Ellsworth Eagles. After the game (in which the Wolves win 21-14), students flock to Moxie's Diner for a traditional post-game milkshake.
→ Due to the thunderstorm in the late evening, dozens of homes, including the entire neighborhood of Seaview Village, lose their power around 10:00pm. Power will not be restored until early Saturday morning around 6am. If your home is one of the random homes in town that have lost power, please be careful of the things that go bump in the night... literally. Noises, voices, shadows... it's obvious (right?) that you're not alone, even if you can't pinpoint just who, or what, is in your home with you. Hopefully you've got plenty of candles and flashlights so that you're not left in complete darkness.
→ Regardless of where they are at the time, Jared, Ellis and Amanda will hear the sound of a freight train rumbling nearby. One could point out that it's entirely possible it was just thunder, but the noise is consistent throughout the night with the occasional horn cutting through the sounds of the storm, and on occasion, the train feels so close that it shakes their home. If they have company, they are still the only ones capable of hearing the train, or feeling its effects. Good luck getting any sleep. The "train" finally dissipates at sunrise.
Saturday, September 9: Weather: Gray and cloudy; 67°/51° EVENTS
→ Despite the less than ideal weather, there's a street market on Main St. from 11am to 6pm. Various vendors and shops from around town have set up booths to sell clothing, jewelry, produce, crafts and more. There are also kettle corn, ice cream, coffee and beer vendors along the street.
→ Tonight begins the Orion's 8 week Fright! Series. Every Saturday evening they will play a classic horror movie at both 7pm and 10pm. Tonight is John Carpenter's Halloween.
