Re: Nate & Adam
“Like ghosts?” Nate asked, raising a brow. He wouldn’t have asked so blatantly, but Adam wasn’t the first person to mention seeing weird things. He wasn’t sure it was related to the festival, since he’d gone himself and not seeing anything, but he’d felt a surge of magic on Saturday that he couldn’t quite explain. That seemed to be the same day people were seeing things, so maybe Point Pleasant was just being it’s own weird self that day. “No more cat attacks, thank God. I can only deal with so much crazy at a time, you know?” He was still dealing with the curse itself, but he had that mostly under control, at least for the moment.
“Yeah, maybe? Old timey ones at that. I only saw them in flashes and they seemed harmless,” Adam said. Normally he wouldn’t admit to it quite so freely, but he figured Nate wouldn’t immediately write him off as crazy. Maybe Adam should have been more worried, but he hadn’t picked up on anything malevolent about them. Even though he’d only been back a month and a half, his threshold for weird had been high to begin with and only risen since then. “That’s good. And I don’t think we’re due for another Friday the 13th for a several months.” He smiled a little at Nate. “I hear you on that, though it’s starting to feel like the crazy likes to pile up around here.”
“Old timey ones? That’s… weird. But not unheard of. Someone else was in here the other night and he saw the same thing. I think you’re right though, they seemed harmless. But if you start having problems with ‘em, let me know.” Nate didn’t usually throw out offers, but he’d known Adam for years and knew he was a good guy. If he was having ghost trouble, he wasn’t going to let him just suffer through it. “Next Friday the 13th, I’m gonna stay home with a four-leaf clover, a rabbit’s foot, and a horse shoe, just to be safe,” Nate laughed, fixing someone else a drink and sliding it over to them, his attention still on Adam. “But yeah, things can get a little crazy around here. They’ve not been too bad for you though, have they?”
Hearing that someone else experienced the same thing was surprising, but indicated it probably wasn’t just in Adam’s head. “They were in Puritanical clothing? Or something like that. I’ll let you know if I pick up on anything again, though.” He smiled at Nate, not sure if there was anything Nate'd be able to do, but it was nice he was concerned. "And it can't hurt to be too cautious," Adam said, then considered the question. How much detail could he get into? Nate was a good guy and Adam trusted him, but still. "It hasn't been too bad for me, personally, but I've been trying to help someone else through some crazy stuff and the full moon's coming up."
If Adam was seriously being haunted, Nate could probably help, but the fact that other people had experienced this made Nate think it was just Point Pleasant being weird. The full moon was a completely different issue, one that Nate had always taken seriously, but lately there had been deaths on the full moon that made him even more anxious. “Crazy how?” he asked, mildly curious. “Stay inside on the night of the full moon. Like… I know I probably sound insane, but it’s not safe right now.” This wasn’t just superstition, but he couldn’t exactly tell people that he thought a werewolf was roaming around town.
It wasn’t really Adam’s secret to tell and it was the sort of thing that was generally difficult to believe; he trusted Nate, but wasn’t sure how much of “just your average potential werewolf infection” he should get into. “Kind of full moon related crazy, possibly, so you don’t sound any less sane than me. I’m not planning to be out in it any more than necessary.” He had formulated a plan with Carson that he would need to be out for to some extent, but he was definitely approaching this full moon with caution amped up by a million in a way he hadn’t really given much serious thought to before. “You stay safe too, yeah?”
