"It'll be fine, I'll protect you." It was more like an empty promise. Jeff couldn't fight that thing out there if he tried, he just had to be smarter than the animal. If he was right, it was just hungry. Working on its base instinct and drive to hunt and kill. His car wasn't that much away from the door due to laziness and the need for a quick escape so he was...optimistic. But he was terrified.
Jeff slowly unlocked the door to make sure it was as quiet as humanly possible before jetting out, running like the devil was at his heels towards his car. He got as far as the pumps before slowing down a little to look behind him. The wolf wasn't anywhere in sight. Relief passed through him for the most part as he stopped and gave the girl a quick wave as if to tell her the coast was clear. Maybe she could make it to him and they could both leave. A fleeting idea as he heard something move in the tree line, close to his car. Jeff's head practically snapped in that direction, trying to see in the darkness while the lights above the pumps flickered.
The wolf moved swiftly on the other side of him, behind the pumps close to Sera's car. Head lowered to the ground and eyes focused on the girl almost like it was telling her to 'watch this.' Fur flared between its shoulder blades as Jeff looked back at the door right before the wolf snapped into action, hurtling over the trash can and snapping its powerful jaws around the man's throat. Both of them fell onto the ground and Jeff let out a bloodied scream as the wolf shook its head, ripping open the skin and letting the blood spray along the gas pumps and Sera's car.
Whatever struggling the man did to try and prolong his death slowly began to cease, arms and legs twitching as the wolf lifted its head up. Blood draining from its mouth before throwing its head back for a howl, returning back to Jeff to rip open his chest. By the time it was remotely finished with its kill, parts of the man's body was strewn around the gas pumps. Globs of flesh and guts pulled away before it lifted its head again, eyes scanning the gas station door. The wolf stepped over the man's body, beginning to trot away -- back into the forest.
