It was almost the perfect catch. If the girl hadn't noticed something sprinting in her direction, if it had stuck out of the light just a little bit longer. It would've been the perfect kill. The wolf was quicker than it seemed, moving from the edge of the parking lot to nearly past to the gas pumps in the matter of minutes. Instinct drove the girl to run just as much as it drove the wolf to attempt to run faster. Directly lined up behind the girl as it charged over the pavement, body lined with her.
The store clerk inside, Jeff...the night shift clerk that seemed to think life was more like an episode of 'Twin Peaks' than anything else. He stood by his realization usually when he started random small talk with people who would come late at night for random crap. He almost hadn't noticed the girl running for the door with an animal at her heels. He would've just walked in the back to continue reading one of the magazines he'd taken off the rack. It was really...by fate and curiosity to see the porsche sitting by the gas stations. Not many drove one of those through town, it was always nice to judge people by the look of their vehicles.
He could pass judgement on Sera. But right now he was swinging open the door, shouting at the teenager to hurry up. The girl getting just a couple feet from the door before he reached out and grabbed her arm, yanking her into the store and slamming the door shut behind them. The wolf colliding with the glass door before regaining its senses and shaking its head. A toothy snarl ripping through the animal as it circled the main entrance. "Holy shit...it could've ripped your leg off. Like fucking Jaws."
