Sera was on her way home from a night with several girls from the cheerleading squad, "studying". Which had been more like hanging around Hayley's basement rec room, laughing at things they saw on Facebook, eating air-popped popcorn, trying on makeup, gossiping. Teenage girl type shit. No actual books had been cracked, but hey, it was still early in the semester.
She should have just driven the rest of the way home, because there was a ton of liquid refreshment in their fridge, but something inside her had been screaming for a Mello Yello for two hours. Hayley, of course, had offered spring water for them to drink, which was great and all, but she needed sugar. Thus far, at least, she had no issues keeping her weight where it should be, so if she wanted extra calories sometimes, she was going to have them.
Sera slung her purse over her shoulder and used the keyfob to lock her car, making a high-pitched beeping sound, then headed for the door. But then there was something coming toward her, and she glanced over and what the unholy fuck was that? Instinct drove her to break for the door as fast as she could, too terrified and unsettled to even scream.
