Who: Hunter & Sebastian (with cameo by Jared) Part 1 What: After school activities~ Where: Sebastian's car When: Afternoon 10/17 Warning: Sappy boys and making out
Going to school again was weirdly hard. If Hunter had been in that bus crash people would have known he was hurt and taken it into consideration but his injuries were a secret and most of them were emotional. He wasn't sure how he would have handled it if people were actually abrupt or mean to him but thankfully everything was pretty mellow that day. He pushed through the hard parts, clinging to the little moments where he spotted Sebastian in the halls and that one where he actually got to talk to him. It gave him something to look forward to, knowing he'd come over after school and that really helped with dealing with everything.
He rode home with Jen after school. They'd taken the car when they realized Hunter's bike was missing and he suspected it was at Mak's place. Finding it could wait, maybe someone had stolen it by now so he really wasn't going to drag himself out of the house more than he had to just to look for it. He knew it was irresponsible but he felt like he could afford being a little crappy at life for a couple of days.
At least he seemed to be done crying for now, like he'd finished his quota for the month over the weekend. Monday hadn't been cry free either but it had been more cathartic than out of pain. He now knew what had happened that night and it was bad but not as bad as he'd started worrying it was and he and Mak seemed to be okay. They'd talked and cuddled and he felt more at ease knowing she wasn't going to avoid him from now on.
When Sebastian texted him that he was on his way he got his jacket and put his shoes on so he could leave right away. They'd get take-out and then maybe come back here or just park somewhere again. Hunter didn't really care, he just wanted to spend some time with him.
After dropping Mak off at the library, Sebastian ran home, dropped off his stuff, and left to go pick up Hunter. He kept worrying that his mother might grill him, but it was normal that he’d go hang out with friends. So long as he was home at a reasonable hour and got his homework done, he had the freedom to come and go, and that was just how he liked it. As he pulled up to Hunter’s house, he took a deep breath to calm his butterflies, then hopped out to go ring the doorbell.
Hunter hesitated to open the door because he felt like maybe he was being a little too desperate if he opened it right away, but who was he kidding, he couldn't wait to see Sebastian so he didn't wait long. As ever, seeing him didn't fail to put that sheepish little grin on his face and a flutter in his stomach that was almost too intense. "Hey," he murmured and it was damn hard not to kiss him so he really was beginning to understand what the big deal about staying in the closet was.
Sebastian bounced a little on his toes as he waited, but Hunter didn’t keep him waiting long. He smiled when he opened the door, his mind in the same place Hunter’s was. It was a damn shame he was still in the closet. “Hey,” he smiled back, swaying towards Hunter as if he was physically being pulled in, like a magnet. But it was still light outside, so early that anyone could see them and Sebastian didn’t know who Hunter’s neighbors were. “Ready to go?” he asked, taking a step closer, unable to help himself.
"Yeah," Hunter replied, his breath catching in his throat because apparently he was not over how hot Sebastian was even if he'd already kissed him a lot. He tried to act casual as they went to Sebastian's car but he felt like there was a neon sign on his head telling the whole neighborhood what he was feeling. "Jen said you guys talked," he said as they were getting in the car. "She officially sister-approved you." He let out a little laugh and shook his head. "So congratulations, I think."
“We did,” Sebastian nodded as he opened Hunter’s door for him, then circled around to his side, sliding into the driver’s seat. It only occurred to him afterwards that he didn’t usually open the door for ‘friends’, but if someone was paying that much attention, then kudos to them. “Yay,” he laughed. “I hoped so. I mean, I thought so, but. Yeah,” he smiled, starting up the car. “I told my sister, so your test is Saturday night. I believe it involves an obstacle course.”
Hunter grinned at him, surprised to hear that. "You told your sister?" he said jovially and that meant a lot. "I can handle obstacle courses, should be good to go on Saturday, but how did she take it? I mean, did it all work out?" He didn't know Sebastian's sister at all but he knew Sebastian had fretted about telling just about anyone so this was kinda huge.
“Yeah,” Sebastian grinned and Hunter could probably tell how it had gone by his attitude alone. He waited to start driving so they could talk for a second, wanting to give Hunter his full attention for this. “She’s great. Wonderful. Makes me wonder why I’ve been so worried, everyone’s taken it so well.” Except every single person seemed to agree about his parents, so he knew that worry wasn’t misplaced. He just didn’t want to focus on the bad right now. The good was feeling really, really good. “I wasn’t planning on telling her, but I wanted to have you guys over and it really defeated the purpose if I couldn’t--if I couldn’t be with you, you know?”
Hearing he was the reason Sebastian was coming out to people was going straight to Hunter's head and he knew he had to rein it in a little before he exploded with stupid joy. He almost asked who exactly knew now but he knew it was a lot of people and he didn't want Sebastian to start panicking so he held back on that too. "Can't wait to meet her," he murmured. "Now get us away from here so I can kiss you?" He blushed faintly at that, nowhere near as visibly as Sebastian, and laughed, looking out at the neighbor's house. They definitely couldn't kiss here.
Sebastian laughed and nodded, his cheeks turning a bit pink to match Hunter’s. “Yeah. Yeah, I’d like that, too,” he said, putting the car in drive, eager to get away. As soon as they were on the move, he reached for Hunter’s hand with his spare one, wanting that as often as he could. It wasn’t a kiss, but he couldn’t kiss while they were moving, so he’d take what he could get. When he pulled up to the stop sign to leave the neighborhood, he looked to Hunter. “Where am I going exactly?” he laughed. “Were you hungry? Do we want to pick something up and go back to your place? Or just… go somewhere and hang out?”
"Let's get some fries and a milkshake and maybe park where we went last time," Hunter suggested because that? Had been nice. Nobody had been around and he really did want to just lounge somewhere with Sebastian without having to keep up appearances. "We can go back to my place too, but I don't know when my dad will be home." Grady wouldn't mind but he'd just be yet another person who knew Sebastian's secret.
Sebastian was sure Hunter’s dad was great, but he really didn’t want to meet someone new right now, especially an adult that his mother might or might not interact with. But going back to the beach sounded great. “Let’s go back to the beach,” he agreed with a smile, turning first towards a place where they could get junk food to munch on. “How’re things with Mak?” he asked, giving Hunter’s hand a little squeeze.
"They're good," Hunter said though his smile was a little wan at the mention of her. "I mean, we talked and she told me everything that happened and we kinda worked through it. It was hard but yeah, she and I, we're good." He idly stroked Sebastian's hand with his thumb as he spoke, appreciating that human contact even more now that he was talking about something heavy. "I haven't talked to Sabrina, I hope she'll come on Saturday."
Sebastian suspected Hunter didn’t want to talk about it any more than Mak did, but he also didn’t want to ignore it. He was glad to hear things were better and left it at that, giving Hunter’s hand another little squeeze. “Me too,” he answered. “I realized after I invited her that she might not know about us. I mean, I didn’t tell her. But I… I trust her. She already knows I’m a witch,” he said with a little laugh. That really should be the bigger secret, but it just hadn’t worked out that way.
"She's great," Hunter said. "She won't tell anyone." He couldn't know that for sure but Sabrina was Mak's friend and more. If Mak trusted her, then Hunter did too. He couldn't imagine Sabrina ever spilling Sebastian's secrets to anyone, she just wasn't like that. "So... smallest party ever? Who are you inviting?"
“You, Mak, Sabrina, and Greg,” Sebastian said. “I thought about Jules, but then thought she’d want to bring Jasper, and I don’t know how I feel about Jasper knowing, plus it seemed like a weird group. I know you’re friends with Jules, but I wasn’t sure about Mak and Sabrina? I kind of went in circles about it and decided maybe not. Unless you think I should? I dunno. I kinda… I didn’t want people to worry about things. I didn’t want to worry. If that makes sense.” It already felt like a huge thing to him to have his best friend, his boyfriend, and potentially his sister in the same space. Adding his ex was a lot to take on, no matter how good of terms they were on.
His fretting was cute and not at all unusual and Hunter watched him as he spoke, feeling stupidly sappy doing just that. "Yeah, I like Jules, but the girls don't really know her and I don't know if we can trust Jasper, I don't know him at all." Truth be told, Jasper Lucas was a bit intimidating and hard to read - and rarely at school anyway. "Small is good, you don't need a lot of people to have fun."
Sebastian exhaled, relaxing a little, glad that Hunter had agreed with him. He’d gone back and forth and back and forth and hadn’t been able to come to a decision, always worried that he was going to make the wrong one and people were going to be unhappy. He liked the smaller group this time. It caused him less stress. “Yeah,” he nodded, flashing Hunter a smile. “I really think it’ll be fun. I just hope Greg’s not bored. He’s more a twenty-person-plus party person. He can do small groups, but this isn’t the kind where he’d get to work the room.”
"He's definitely high energy," Hunter agreed, amused. "But I mean, is there anything else going on? If he gets bored and there's another party we won't like hold him hostage or anything." It was still early in the week so maybe there'd be something going on they just hadn't heard about yet. Hunter just knew that none of them would feel up to a big party, something small and intimate would be nicer, especially if it meant he could kiss Sebastian all he wanted.
“I don’t think so, since Halloween parties will probably be next weekend, but I don’t know. I’m not holding him to anything but the tour,” Sebastian said with a little laugh. “I showed him what I could do, finally. I had to promise I have no more big secrets to drop on him. But it feels good not to be hiding so much, you know? At least with the people I’m close to.” He pulled into the drive through, waiting on the car ahead of him to pull up. “I think I made it rain,” he told Hunter, sticking out his tongue.
Hunter laughed, a surprised little chortle. "Rain?" he echoed and shook his head, still grinning. Did hever stop smiling around Sebastian? "I'll be impressed if you can make it stop raining." It was bullshit, he was impressed with everything Sebastian could do, whether that included rain or not. How could he not be? His boyfriend was a legit witch.
Sebastian laughed quietly, a stupid grin on his face. “I think that’s a little harder, but I’ll work on it,” he said, pausing to place their order at the drive through. Once that was done, they pulled up a spot and he squeezed Hunter’s hand again. “Come here,” he said softly, and leaned in so he could kiss him. Just one wouldn’t hurt. The only people that might see was whomever was ahead of them in line. Hopefully they weren’t paying any attention. He just couldn’t wait all night to finally kiss Hunter.
It was reckless and Hunter loved it, his stomach doing that happy little squeeze thing it did so often around Sebastian. He bit his lip as he looked around, then leaned in to kiss Sebastian, a warm sort of weight spreading through his chest. He grinned against his lips before pulling back, giving his hand another little squeeze. "Been wanting to do that all day," he whispered and it really was a lie since he'd been wanting to do it since Saturday.
The only bad part about kissing Hunter once was realizing that he had to stop and wait to do it again. It left Sebastian in a kind of drunken daze, like a high without smoking anything at all. He felt all warm and fuzzy and not at all interested in driving or fries or milkshakes. Yet those were things he had to take care of. They couldn’t decide to park in the middle of the drive-thru. “Me too,” he said, eyes all soft and half lidded. “I never realized how hard this would be. I really just--” He cut himself off, a blush creeping up his cheeks.
Hunter loved that blush every time he saw it and his grin brightened a bit before he leaned in again to steal another kiss. It wasn't like he could resist, he didn't have that kind of willpower. Right now he just wanted to eat while they drove and then park somewhere and do nothing but this for as long as they could get away with, so he definitely knew how Sebastian was feeling. "You're not making it any easier, being a good kisser," he whispered as he pulled back enough to look at Sebastian again. Keeping this a secret was just going to get harder.
Sebastian made a pleased little noise when Hunter kissed him again, really wishing they were somewhere better. Soon, he told himself. He just had to be a little more patient. “Thanks,” Sebastian grinned, his voice as soft as Hunter’s. “You are too. Really good.” Better than all the girls that he’d kissed, but he thought his attraction to Hunter might have something to do with that. Or Hunter was just an incredible kisser. Sebastian liked to think it was a little of both. He pulled up again, trying to keep himself composed while he paid for fries and milkshakes. It did make him wonder if the girl at the window could tell they’d been making out while waiting, but if she knew, she didn’t say anything. When they pulled away, Sebastian was disappointed that he couldn’t pick it right back up again, but told himself he just had to wait a little longer. “Can I ask you something really personal?” he asked, looking over at Hunter with a smile so he’d know it wasn’t something to stress over.
Hunter was riding the high of being told he was a good kisser when Sebastian asked that question. Given his mood he probably would have said yes to anything right now, especially since kissing - and if he was any good at it - had been something he'd fretted about a great deal before his first kiss with Sebastian. That kiss had felt right though, and every kiss that followed. Still, it felt really good to hear it and he had a hard time keeping his grin under control. "Sure," he said a little curiously. It didn't feel like they had more secrets to spill so it didn't worry him.
“Am I your first boyfriend?” Sebastian asked, biting his lip against a smile. He knew they hadn’t officially put a label on what they were, but it felt so right that he’d started referring to Hunter as his boyfriend to Greg and Ophelia. In asking Hunter, he was hoping to confirm both things, if he was his first, and if that’s what they were now. Hunter knew he was Sebastian’s first. Though he’d dated a number of girls in the past, they didn’t really count, at least when it came to feelings.
Hunter hadn't thought that fluttering in his stomach could get any stronger but there it was. He bit his lip and let out a little laugh that was both happy and nervous. "That depends," he murmured coyly glancing out the window as if that might help calm his nerves a little, then he looked back at Sebastian and he could swear he had to be able to see every feeling he was having right there in Hunter's eyes. "Do you want to be my boyfriend?"
It was actually a good thing they were driving. It gave Sebastian something to do other than stare at Hunter with a stupid grin and a stomach full of butterflies. He kept glancing over at him anyways, catching that look in his eyes and sure that he was looking in some kind of a mirror. This boy… Hunter had him in knots. His life turned sideways and it was the best thing he’d ever experienced. “I do,” he nodded, laughing a little. “Very yes. Much want.”
Hunter was beginning to think you could die from happy. Maybe that's why all the shitty stuff kept happening, to keep him from floating away. He was doing better, sure, but parts of him still hurt a little and it was grounding him a little which was probably a good thing. "Then yeah," he said and god damn giggled. "You're my first boyfriend." It was his turn to blush again and he gave Sebastian's hand a little squeeze as he took a deep breath. "You're the only guy I've ever kissed."
Damn, Hunter was cute. And hot. But at the moment, cute. It was nice to know he wasn’t the only one that blushed and Sebastian squeezed his hand back, trying his best not to do a little happy dance. “Me too,” Sebastian said. “I mean, you knew that, but I’ve kissed girls, but… kissing you is so much better.” He needed to stop talking before he made a fool out of himself. He probably already had. Hunter was dating a fool. “I wasn’t sure. I thought, at first, that you had to have dated lots of guys before you moved here, but…” But then Mak had shared a secret with him and Sebastian wasn’t going to give that away. “But I like this better.”
That was reassuring and Hunter understood where he was coming from. He'd always kind of thought he'd lose his virginity with some guy who knew what he was doing during some hookup that wouldn't mean anything but the thought always weirded him out and he always lost his nerve when he got anywhere close to an opportunity. So yes, this was better and he was already thinking of Saturday as The Night. Maybe. Hopefully. "I've only kissed one girl and it was a truth or dare kinda thing," he admitted. "Ages ago, it wasn't all that interesting." It had been like a rite of passage than any other kind of big deal and the kiss had been okay. He grinned again at the thought that he actually had a boyfriend and brought Sebastian's hand up to kiss his knuckles. "I like you lot."
“Yeah, not the same,” Sebastian agreed. Unless you already had a crush on them, a truth or dare kiss was a task to be completed. That being said, he’d probably kissed a number of girls that way that had been over the moon about it. For all the kissing he’d done, he hadn’t known it was supposed to feel like this, that it should make him feel like he was going to float away from all the happy, bubbly feelings. “I like you a lot, too,” he said, sure his face was warm and glad that they were almost to the beach. “I don’t feel like I have good words for it. But I really, really like you.”
Hunter wasn't even sure why they'd stopped for food at this point. None of the food he was holding was as tempting as kissing Sebastian again was though he supposed he should eat something so he'd been picking at his fries a little here and there. He sipped his milkshake, mostly to cool himself down a little because he was feeling way too hot and it had nothing to do with the weather which was pretty crappy today. He didn't feel like he had the right words for it anyway and telling Sebastian he really really really liked him just sounded dumb in his head, and like he was trying to out do him in the 'really' department. So he grinned at him instead, pretty sure his stupid feelings were written all over his face.
Sebastian munched on his fries as he drove, realizing that as soon as he parked, they were probably going to be cold the next time he thought of them. He sucked down enough chocolate milkshake to give himself a brain freeze, then pulled out onto the beach, glad to see no one else was there. It was a hotspot in the summer, but with the weather the way it was, especially today, people found better places to hang out. But Sebastian loved the sound of the ocean, the feel of the water so close, and the privacy. He put the car in park, then bit his lip, the butterflies coming back so strong he was sure they were going to climb out his ears.
"Are you still hungry?" Hunter asked with a somewhat amused smile because he knew he just wanted to put what remained of his food away and crawl up on Sebastian's lap to kiss him for hours. It wasn't practical in a car in public but the thought was still there. It should have been offputting in a way how stupid he felt around him, like he'd promised himself to be cool around guys and then he met Sebastian and became all sorts of lame and dorky, unable to stop smiling if they weren't busy kissing.
“Not at all,” Sebastian said with a little laugh. He’d be horribly embarrassed at how not cool he was being, except he kind of felt like they were on the same page. So he did what he’d been wanting to do since that first kiss, and then the second. He leaned over to kiss Hunter, knowing this time there was no reason to stop, that he could do it for as long as Hunter would let him.
This time they could do it properly since they weren't in a line of cars, worried about someone seeing and Hunter tilted his head to deepen the kiss, the butterflies in his stomach rioting. He knew it was fun to have a crush on a guy but this was like being on a roller coaster and he only broke the kiss so he could put the food aside and wrap his arms around Sebastian. Maybe Saturday they could do this somewhere more comfortable and not have to hide at all. That thought both excited and terrified him in the best of ways.
It was like opening the floodgates, finally being able to kiss Hunter like he wanted to kiss him, and he didn’t even hesitate to open his mouth to him, to taste the hint of salt and chocolate on his tongue, along with that taste that was just Hunter. Sebastian whined when Hunter broke the kiss, then realized he was moving the food before coming back again, and he drew him as close as he could manage. The car really wasn’t the best place for this, not with a steering wheel and a console between them. He didn’t let that stop them, but found himself wishing he could get Hunter closer. His mouth brushed over Hunter’s, pulling back just a touch, aware that they’d just barely started, but… “Wanna climb in the back?” he quietly, hoping the answer was yes.
It might be corny but Hunter kept thinking this whole thing was the light at the end of the tunnel, kissing Sebastian was what was going to help him move past the nightmares and random bouts of fear that seemed to wash over him out of nowhere lately. There in Sebastian's car with Sebastian's arms around him it didn't feel possible to get hurt again and he wanted to fill his dreams with this to keep the nightmares at bay. He nodded at Sebastian's question, even if it meant having to stop for a minute while they got back there. It'd be nicer in the back though he wasn't going to assume they were going to do more than kiss.
When he’d asked the question, Sebastian hadn’t thought a lot about how they were supposed to get in the back seat. He’d really just hoped they would teleport there. And once Hunter said yes, he wanted to get there as soon as possible so that he could properly kiss Hunter again. He grinned against his lips, then leaned his chair back a bit to give them more room before climbing through the middle into the back seat. It was a little weird to be back there, he’d never sat in the back of his own car, no matter how many girlfriends had suggested they do just that.
Hunter was fine with climbing and he half fell into the back seat with a little laugh but then he was grabbing Sebastian's shirt to pull him close again to kiss him. He hadn't thought much further than that, happy to just kiss for hours. He doubted Sebastian wanted to do much more than that in his car but Hunter was definitely not ready. Or maybe he was. God it was hard to think logically when Sebastian's lips were moving against his own and his body was all firm and warm under his hands.
Sebastian laughed softly and pulled Hunter close to kiss him, liking this so much better. He didn’t have any grand plan other than being alone with Hunter and kissing him, something that took far more work to orchestrate than it should have. With Hunter’s lips on his, his tongue in his mouth, it was easy to want more, though Sebastian couldn’t imagine going for it then and there. This was good enough for now, even if his body was starting to ache, and it reminded him of what he’d wanted to ask Hunter earlier, yet hadn’t had the nerve to do so yet.
Hunter was oblivious to anything being on Sebastian's mind other than kissing and right now that was all he was thinking about, Sebastian's mouth and body. He tasted so good and while yes, kissing him was definitely having an effect on Hunter's body, he wasn't going to do anything about it right then. He thought for a moment that it would be embarrassing if Sebastian noticed his dick was getting hard but really, wouldn't it be weirder if it wasn't? Whatever, he just wanted to touch him, let his hands roam down over his firm chest and up again, trailing over the soft skin on his neck until he could curl his fingers in his short hair.
Hunter wasn’t the only one getting hard from the kissing and Sebastian was torn about whether he should try to hide or not. Or even if he could. One thing was certain, he didn’t want to stop kissing, and it wasn’t like Hunter’s eyes were open, and his hands hadn’t roamed that direction, so he should be fine. Though as Hunter’s fingers moved into his hair, he thought that it was probably really obvious. Sebastian shuddered, nipping at Hunter’s bottom lip before pulling back just a little, enough that he could start kissing up Hunter’s jawline as his fingers clenched and unclenched around the material on Hunter’s chest, feeling the firm muscle beneath his clothes.
Hunter wasn't sure how he was supposed to breathe through this, his breath kept catching in his throat and when Sebastian's lips got closer to his neck he let it out shakily. He'd been horny before, plenty of times, but he was sure it had never felt this urgent and hard to control before. How did people survive this? Especially when they were so obviously not going to do be doing anything about it - or were they? No, no they were not. But it was tempting. He pulled back and tilted his head to catch Sebastian's lips again in a kiss, not sure he could handle the way it felt to have his neck kissed.
Sebastian wanted to kiss Hunter all over. He wanted to kiss his neck and his chest, and he wanted to let those kisses drift lower until he could have a taste of his cock. Not right now, fuck that was too much, but someday. Right now his neck was good enough, and maybe his ear? Except Hunter redirected him and they were kissing again, something Sebastian really couldn’t complain about because that was wonderful too. As his hands slid up into Hunter’s hair, the question that he wanted to ask found it’s way to his lips, coming out soft and breathy between kisses. “Saturday,” he muttered. “Will you stay over?”
Hunter's reply was wordless but an obvious yes as he murmured a soft mmhmm against Sebastian's lips. As if he'd say no, he wanted to go there now or bring Sebastian to his own room and get his jacket and shirt off at the very least. One day he'd live alone and he could do that anytime he wanted but right now he had to deal with being a teenager who still lived with his dad. Damn it. The fact that Sebastian asked wasn't a surprise as such but it still made him stupidly happy and he smiled briefly at the thought of sleeping over - would they even sleep? - where nothing would stop them from doing anything they wanted except maybe their own shyness. Given how it seemed to melt away as soon as they started kissing Hunter didn't think it'd be a problem. He'd fret and giggle about it all week for sure but it wouldn't be a problem.
Sebastian was suddenly smiling so big it almost made it hard to kiss, and before he could think better of it, he climbed in Hunter’s lap. With his hands in his hair and behind his neck, Sebastian kissed him like he’d been wanting to since Saturday, since before that even, when he wasn’t even ready to be where he was now. He was sure Hunter could feel his dick pressed up against him, but he didn’t even care, though any little movement against him made it ten times worse. Sebastian worked to keep still, very aware that if he didn’t, that things would spiral quickly, and they were in his fucking car. Saturday suddenly seemed years away.
It was perfect and while Hunter hadn't really dared to touch him like that before, with Sebastian straddling him it felt only natural to let his hands drift down to grab his ass. The denim was hard under his palms but god he could still feel the outline of Sebastian's ass and it did nothing to help with his erection. His heart was going a mile a minute and he was rapidly forgetting where they were and why they had to be careful.
The things that little touch did to Sebastian’s body were really completely unfair. He moaned softly into the kiss and gave a tentative roll of his hips that created such delicious friction that he thought he might die. He could feel Hunter then, pressed up against him, and it was just so much to take in, to feel, that he could easily get lost in it. He kissed him harder, trying to control himself, but feeling a little bit lost with desire. It would be so, so easy to just run with the feeling, and so much fun to see where it took them.
Hunter had up until this second always thought about how their first time doing anything sexual should be nice and cozy in Sebastian's bedroom or his where they could take their time and it wouldn't feel sleazy. Car sex would feel sleazy, he'd been sure, but this didn't feel sleazy at all. It just felt good and he felt a weird mix of wound up and relaxed as he kissed Sebastian. That little roll of his hips and that sound went straight to Hunter's cock which he so didn't need right now but there it was, a pleasurable jolt that seemed to go straight through him. He moved his hands up a little, slipping under Sebastian's jacket and t-shirt, finding bare skin to touch and then suddenly his body jerked with something that was not happy pleasure when there was a sudden knock on the window.
Jared was on the late shift and if it really was late he might have left the love birds alone. As it was it was before dinner time in a public area and their windows were steaming up and that was just a recipe for trouble. Some cops enjoyed this but it was one of his least favorite parts of the job aside from paperwork. Again, if it was midnight he might have let it slide. Teenagers didn't have a lot of places to take their making out.
Sebastian went from one hundred to zero so fast he practically got whiplash. One second Hunter’s fingers were creeping up under his shirt, giving his goosebumps like whoa, and the next he was scrambling off Hunter’s lap, trying to pull himself together because a fucking cop was knocking on the window and he was maybe a little bit scared his dick was showing. And the worst thing that could ever possibly happen would be to get arrested for indent exposure and have his dad find out. Not that he was happy about having his makeout session interrupted, but it was suddenly extremely obvious to him why it was a bad idea. He took three quick breaths, confirmed that his clothes were all where they were supposed to be, and rolled the window down, his face white as a sheet.
Hunter had gone from very hot to cold, pale and wide-eyed as he stared at the deputy outside. Gaines. It was Deputy Gaines and he knew he wasn't an asshole but he'd still probably tell his dad and then his dad might tell Sebastian's parents and God it was a clusterfuck.
Jared wasn't blind to how panicked both boys looked so he didn't bother with cop-mode, not really. "This is not the time or place, boys," he said softly. "You need to take this somewhere a little more private." He managed to keep his face mostly neutral though a small amused smile kept tugging at his lips.
“Yes, officer,” Sebastian said quietly, not entirely sure he could move. Though he would, just as soon as the officer left. He gave a little nod, then rolled up the window, sitting very still as he waited for the officer to walk away. “Oh my god,” he whispered, looking back at Hunter with wide eyes. It occurred to him then that the guy probably knew Hunter, that even though they hadn’t gotten arrested, or a ticket even, that he might tell his dad. “Are we fucked?”
Hunter was not in trouble, but he knew Sebastian would be if word got out. Maybe that was what helped him remember how to shake off that paralyzed-with-fear feeling and actually move. "Wait here," he whispered and he really didn't like how that warm happy feeling in his chest had been replaced with the tightness of anxiety. He got out of the car and shakily made his way to where Jared was getting in the patrol car. "Wait," he said and maybe it was the panic in his expression or the tremble in his voice, but he didn't seem have to say much more than that.
"Don't worry about it," Jared said, pausing where he stood and leaning against the door of the car. "You weren't doing anything wrong... Yet."
"Yeah, but-" Hunter said and bit his lip as he glanced back toward Sebastian's car. For a short irrational second he picture it driving away without him, if Sebastian really panicked. "He's not... He's not out. Please don't tell anyone."
Jared quirked a brow as he looked over at the Mustang convertible. "Not smart to do this out here then," he said just a touch sternly. "Keep it indoors from now on and I won't breathe a word to anyone." He eased up a little because, while Hunter nodded eagerly, he still looked unsure and worried. "Listen," he said quietly. "My boyfriend was in the closet too until recently, I know how important it is, so just breathe." He didn't normally get personal with people, but this was Grady's kid and he looked scared. There was something to be said about standing up for the queer kids too, right?
Hunter could have hugged him right there and then, but he just nodded before bolting back to Sebastian's car, breathing a lot harder than he should have been when he got back inside. "We're okay," he said shakily. "He won't tell anyone."
In the time that Hunter was gone, Sebastian’s mind had gone on a rapid downward spiral. The deputy would for sure tell Hunter’s dad, even if it wasn’t to get him in trouble. And Hunter’s dad would tell Sebastian’s mom, because she was involved in just about everything and somehow knew when these kinds of things happened. His mom would tell his dad and it would be all out on the table before he was even halfway prepared. It made him feel almost sick and he rolled to watch Hunter talk to the deputy, then climbed back into the front seat so that Hunter could join him there. “Are you sure?” Sebastian asked, reaching for Hunter’s hand while he looked towards the cop car, eyes still filled with worry. “What did he say?”
Hunter had turned in his seat so he was facing Sebastian and he clutched his hand with both of his. "He's one of the gay cops," he said because it really did matter. "His boyfriend was in the closet he said, so he gets it. He won't tell anyone. I'm sure." Hunter still felt shitty about it, like it was largely his fault they'd gotten caught. At least Gaines probably wouldn't have recognized Sebastian and whoever else he was there with but he definitely knew Hunter. Or maybe he let them off easy because he knew Hunter, there was really no telling. It could have been a lot worse. It could have been his dad and that would have been mortifying.
Sebastian exhaled slowly, leaning in so his forehead was resting against Hunter’s. Why hadn’t he thought of that before getting caught? It was pretty common sense, but kids went parking all the time and didn’t always have cops knocking on their windows. Then again, it was only, like, six o’clock. It was still light out. Maybe that was part of it. “‘m sorry. I didn’t mean to freak out,” he said softly, pulling back to look at Hunter. Breathe, he told himself. It really wasn’t that bad. It could have been worse. “Maybe we should go to your house?”
"I freaked out too," Hunter told him softly, letting go of his hand to reach up and run his fingers through his hair. "It's okay, it was scary." That knock had startled him more than was normal but then he was extremely jumpy these days and any little thing could scare him. "We can go to my place, if my dad comes home we can just say you're my lab partner." It meant they couldn't really do anything, but just hanging out was nice.
Sebastian turned into the touch, smiling softly as he began to relax. “If I was out, it just would’ve been embarrassing, but…” He felt bad that he couldn’t just be out, that Hunter had to keep dealing with this. He wasn’t all that fond of it himself, but the alternative scared him enough to keep him from acting. “Do you think, if you told your dad, he would understand?” he asked. He didn’t want more people to know, and he knew that would prevent them from having a lot of time alone at Hunter’s house while his dad was there, but Hunter was gay, too. Maybe his father might get why it was such a big deal too.
"Yeah, I think so," Hunter replied but he had no idea how his dad would handle knowing he was dating someone. He might just get awkward about it or he might... Hunter wasn't even sure. Not like it? It was a little embarrassing knowing his dad suspected he was sexually active, more so than if he was straight. "I don't think he'd out you but I don't know. It might just make him hover more." He smiled faintly and stole another kiss from Sebastian. "Let's go to my place, we can talk on the way."
“Just wondering.” Sebastian’s fear had come from the cop telling Hunter’s dad and that getting back to his mom. If he found out they were together differently, from Hunter himself, Hunter might be able to prevent that. But he also didn’t care if Hunter told his dad, well aware that that might be awkward. If it was his dad, he’d probably get cut off from all boys always. Even Greg, which was just stupid. The kiss made him smile and he nodded. “Let’s do that,” he agreed, starting up the car.
"I might try and get a read on him," Hunter said as he thought about it. "But I don't want to tell him anything if you don't want me to." He'd just assumed Sebastian wanted it all to be a big secret and that definitely meant not telling any more people about it. Especially his dad. He grabbed his milkshake from the cup holder for something to distract himself with, then snagged one of the fries too. It was cold by now but it was still good. "I'm totally okay keeping it a secret, you know that, right?"
“I know,” Sebastian said, pulling away from the beach to take them back to Hunter’s house. “It just sucks. I’m making things difficult and I hate it and I wish it didn’t scare me so much, you know? Everyone I’ve told has been really cool, and really supportive, and I’d worry that I’m blowing it all out of proportion, except when they know my parents, they also get it.” More and more he was finding that was where his fears really stemmed from. There would be some assholes at school, and even some people that were nice before, but were suddenly uncomfortable with him, and he thought he could handle that. It would be hard, but maybe his skin would thicken a little. But at home… that was different. “You know it’s not that I don’t trust your dad, right? It’s that, the more people that know, the harder it is for me to control.”
"I know," Hunter said and reached over to steal his hand again to hold. "You're not making things difficult. If anything you're making things easy right now. I really needed something good right now and you're it." That would not have been easy to admit to just anyone, but Sebastian was being vulnerable around him and Hunter could do the same. "Even if that cop scared me half to death," he added with a little huff of a laugh. "This whole thing is making me happy." He bit his lip, glancing over at Sebastian's profile before ducking his head to drink more of his milkshake.
Sebastian squeezed Hunter’s hand as he looked over at him, giving him a little smile. He was making this easy for him, too. He was being patient and understanding and it made it way too easy to be open with him, but that seemed okay as well. When he mentioned the cop, Sebastian laughed a little and nodded. “I was suddenly worried that I was, like, exposed or something. I dunno. I knew I wasn’t, but…” He shook his head, cheeks a little pink as he thought back to the moment before the cop had interrupted them. “You make me happy, too,” he said, a bit more softly, glancing over at Hunter. He nibbled on his fries at he drove, but that didn’t hide his smile back.
Hunter could have looked at it the other way around, that this demon nonsense was totally ruining his first boyfriend experience, but it felt better to see it like this. The first boyfriend experience had really good timing because he was pretty sure he'd be even more depressed otherwise. He still felt like shit when he was alone and whenever he thought about it but at least he got to have moments like these where he couldn't stop smiling and couldn't think about anything but the way Sebastian's skin had felt under his fingertips, even if it had only been for a few seconds before they were interrupted. "If my dad asks about you I'll just tell him I have a crush on you, but you're sadly super straight," he murmured with a little grin.
Maybe the whole demon thing was interfering, but Sebastian thought there would always be something. Even if Hunter hadn’t been possessed last Friday, Sebastian would have still been in the bus accident. In a roundabout way, it had brought Sebastian closer to Hunter and his friends, even if the circumstances weren’t the best. And they’d be dealing with him being in the closet, no matter what. So maybe this was just the way things were supposed to be. He just knew Hunter was worth it and he wouldn’t have wanted to wait till there was perfect timing. “There are still people out there that would believe that,” he said with a little laugh, then smiled to himself for a minute, sucking on his milkshake. “I didn’t think I’d ever have a chance with you.”
Hunter gave him an incredulous look before he could stop himself. "Why would- have you seen yourself?" he asked, laughing. It was flattering but also ridiculous because Sebastian was gorgeous and nice and hot and all the things that made it easy for him to have a chance with just anyone. Unless that wasn't at all what he meant. "Or... were you gonna bury yourself deeper inside your closet?" he asked with a grin. "Sorry I coaxed you out." Ugh his face was gonna start hurting if he was around Sebastian like this all the time, smiling and smiling more.
Sebastian laughed, shaking his head as he found himself blushing again. It wasn’t about him. Hunter was hot, and outgoing, and knowing he was gay did something to Sebastian’s head that had made it even harder to talk to him. He’d been around all summer, occasionally with his group of friends, but Sebastian had kept his distance because he was positive he’d out himself the second he started talking to Hunter. He hadn’t been too far off, though the alcohol probably had something to do with that. “I’m not sorry,” he smiled. “Besides, I’m pretty sure I’m the one that practically fell in your lap.”
He had literally crawled up on his lap today and that was all Hunter could think about when he said it so he blushed faintly and laughed again. "Yeah you did, my lucky night." That weekend had been so good even if there were nightmares and worries, the party had been amazing, the way Sebastian looked at him helped him momentarily forget all that nonsense and then a date? It had been perfect and that first moment when Sebastian flopped on the couch with him was something he liked to relive in his head maybe a little too often.
“Mine too,” Sebastian said, looking over and catching that blush. Hunter didn’t blush as easily as he did, but he loved when it happened, though now he was wondering what had triggered it. He pulled up in front of Hunter’s house and stopped the car, grabbing his milkshake before climbing out. “Have you ever been to a dance?” he asked, curious. Just because he hadn’t had a boyfriend didn’t mean he’d skipped them all, but he knew Hunter hadn’t gone to Homecoming. While he could’ve totally gone solo, Sebastian now knew that he’d had enough going on that Homecoming probably hadn’t been a priority at the time.
"Yeah," Hunter replied as he joined him, taking his own milkshake with him. "Just with friends, usually went in a group." He found his keys in his pocket as they walked, giving Sebastian a little smile. "I would have come to Homecoming too, I wanted to but... None of us really felt like celebrating much and I just... I had these weird bruises on my arms and I felt like, I mean, nobody would have seen them but I still felt like people would know? Or like I didn't feel like dressing up?" He didn't really regret it since he was just really happy he'd gone to the party. "You obviously always go, right? Your highness?"
“No one would have ever seen the bruises and thought, oh, I bet a demon is haunting his dreams, but I get it,” Sebastian smiled. He’d probably have been self-conscious, too. With his pale skin, those things showed up like ink on paper. “Glad you decided to go to the party at least.” Obviously. It had really worked out for both of them. “Yeah, I like ‘em,” he laughed. “Jules and I went as friends this time, which was nice.” But had a goal now, to take his boyfriend to the winter formal. It was a long ways off, but it gave him something to work towards.
"I was more worried they'd think my dad was hitting me or something," Hunter admitted. The bruises were mostly faded now but they looked like he'd been gripped hard by an adult man, large hands and not small so he couldn't have said he'd been playfighting with his sister or anything - which would have been a terrible excuse anyway. "Or like 'oh the gay kid has an abusive older boyfriend, go figure', people can really come up with wild stories." He unlocked the door and let Sebastian in first. "I would have liked to go with Mak, she's like my platonic life mate or something."
“Oh, yeah,” Sebastian cringed, feeling a little like an idiot. He hadn’t seen the marks, but he felt like he should have come to that conclusion. “People are idiots. But I guess that’s more reasonable, even if it’s not.” If he’d seen them, he’d have been worried, even if he had no idea where they came from. He was sure Mak was dealing with something similar herself. All of them had to have been, back during Homecoming. “I’ve got one of those,” he grinned. “He was pissed when he found out I’d asked Jules. Felt like he had to go get himself a date, who’d already said she’d go with someone, but decided to ditch him to go with Greg, except Greg wasn’t really interested, so they hooked back up at the dance, you know, all the normal drama,” he said, rolling his eyes.
That was hard to keep up with and Hunter laughed when Sebastian trailed off. "Jesus, so much gossip." He led the way into the house, feeling a little awkward suddenly. At least his dad wasn't home yet but he didn't know if lounging in the living room was safe. "You wanna go upstairs?" he asked, arching a brow at Sebastian and biting his lip without really thinking about it. Being alone in his room would be full of temptations but they'd hear it if Grady came home and if they didn't do too much it shouldn't be a problem to hide it. He hoped.
“I know,” Sebastian grinned. “It’s his own fault. He’s sworn off girls for now, but we’ll see how long that lasts.” While he really did think that Greg should wait until he found someone he genuinely liked, he also knew dating was a social thing and that Greg liked to get laid. He couldn’t really blame him. His mind wasn’t at all on the empty house and what they could do there until Hunter asked and shot him a look that made his heart begin to beat faster. “Yeah,” he said, his smile turning shy, and just a touch teasing. “I promise I’ll be good.”
Hunter was not really worried about Sebastian behaving himself when Hunter was the one who couldn't seem to keep his hands off him. His smile said as much and he nodded before waving at Sebastian to follow him. It was weird enough since nobody had really been in there but Mak and Jen, his dad only ever really poked his head through the doorway before disappearing again. Now he was bringing his boyfriend up there. It made him fret a little about the state of the place but that was because he was a neat freak and it wasn't one hundred percent neat right now. It was neater than Jen's room, for sure, so he made a conscious decision not to fret about it. "There's not much to see," he admitted as he pushed the door open. "I left most of my stuff in Portland." He'd gotten some nice posters though, one scuba diving one that he really liked and some of his bigger idols. He'd brought some of his swim trophies with him, a motivational reminder or something. Walking in there made him want to see Sebastian's room which was probably way more showing of his character since he'd lived there longer. Saturday, Hunter reminded himself with a little thrill. So close yet so far away.
Sebastian couldn’t help but look around when they entered Hunter’s room, eyes roaming at he took it all in. A person’s room told a lot about them, both how they kept it and what they kept in it, or in Hunter’s case, what he’d chosen to bring with him. There might have been more if he’d grown up there, obviously. “Do you scuba dive?” he asked, looking over at Hunter. He was trying to decide if he should sit on the bed or not, feeling a little like he needed to be invited, even though it was really the only place to sit, unless he sat at the desk, which felt weird. “Are you going to get the stuff in Portland, or…” He wasn’t really sure he knew what was going on there. He’d just kind of assumed Hunter was there for good.
Hunter moved his laptop aside and flopped down on the bed, patting the spot next to him in invitation. "I don't know yet, I mean, I'll stay here until college and then I guess I'll get my stuff when I decide what I want to do? I might get the rest of it and just keep it here." He glanced up at the poster and smiled. "Oh you'd like that, water witch," he said fondly. "But no, I haven't, I really want to though, I love swimming. But not in the ocean, it's way too cold here - and creepy."
Sebastian toed off his shoes, then joined Hunter on the bed, pulling his feet up to sit cross-legged. “Just curious. I guess that’s a long ways off.” He was always excited about college until he started thinking about leaving people and that wasn’t something he wanted to think about right now. He was happy here, just like this, with Hunter happily calling him a water witch. “I want to, too. But where would you scuba dive if not in the ocean? That’s where the fish are. Plus, you can wear a wetsuit to keep you warm.”
Hunter laughed because that had come off as stupid, hadn't it? "Yeah," he said sheepishly. "I mean the ocean here. I'd love to somewhere where you it's all clear blue and warm. Like that." He pointed at the poster with is vibrant blue colors. "When I think of the ocean here I just think gray and ghosts." He toed off his sneakers and moved to sit like Sebastian, turning his body so he was facing him as he fished out his phone to get some music going. He could behave a little longer, he told himself. He totally could.
“Oh, yeah, even this water witch won’t get in the water here,” Sebastian agreed. “Except maybe the beach where we were earlier, but only in the summer, and not too far out. The water’s never warm here. I’d rather go somewhere like you’re talking about. White sand, clear blue water, and sunshine. Florida maybe. Cancun. Hawaii. Florida’s probably the most realistic on that list,” he laughed a little. Maybe he could get a group of friends together this spring break and do something like that. A senior trip kind of thing. Again, a long way off, but he could dream.
It was too easy to picture Sebastian on the beach in some tight speedo and nothing else, lounging in the sun looking gorgeous. "We should go to college in like California or something," he said and grinned. "Far away where nobody cares if you're gay." He was dreaming now too, also assuming they'd still be together when they graduated but at the moment it seemed really likely. He put his phone aside when the music started and pushed himself closer to Sebastian to kiss him again because there apparently was a time limit on how long he could be good and not kiss him.
“That’s always been the dream,” Sebastian said softly, his grin matching Hunter’s. “L.A. or San Francisco.” Though he’d be happy with New York or Florida. At least Florida was warm, but New York was New York. There was Broadway. That was really dreaming, of course, but it didn’t hurt. All of them were places he’d felt like he could be himself, be out and it not matter a bit. He’d always pictured himself dragging Greg along with him, but now he couldn’t imagine not being with Hunter as well. A little, rational part of him knew that it was unlikely they’d all go to the same place, but he refused to let reality shatter his dreams right now. He smiled as Hunter leaned in, meeting him halfway. He’d been a little worried the night would be ruined when they’d been caught earlier, so it was nice to find that happy place again.
The only problem with that dream was that there'd be thousands of twinks ready to throw themselves at Sebastian and Hunter wasn't so sure he'd be ready to reject all of them. Being in the closet sucked but for now that meant Sebastian was all his and he didn't have to worry about anyone else stealing him away. He cupped the back of his neck, loving the way his short hair tickled his skin, just long enough to pinch between his fingers. His body itched to move forward, to be as close to him as he'd been in the car and that feeling was hard to resist even if he should know better. He shifted his weight and got his knees under him, straddling Sebastian much like he had straddled Hunter earlier.
While Sebastian had told himself that he wouldn’t start something, he definitely wasn’t going to protest if Hunter did. His tongue slid into Hunter’s mouth as he began to play with his hair, something he’d always loved, but had never realized how it would affect him with someone he liked. But then everything Hunter did seemed to turn him on, so it was hard to pinpoint specific things. He knew he liked it, but he liked Hunter in his lap even more, and even though they’d just started kissing he could feel his dick start to chub up in response. His hands naturally gravitated to Hunter’s hips, fingers splaying back over his ass in the shortest-lived effort not to grab ever, his promise to be good flying out the window in less that ten minutes.
