Jaime had sort of noticed the bike in passing, but opened her eyes when it stopped. She straightened up from her lean on the fence, regarding the stranger curiously.
Everyone, she realized, was going to be a stranger to her. It wasn't going to be like home where she knew the family that ran the fruit and veggie stand at the end of the road, or was on first name, how're-the-kids terms with the cashier at the gas station at the other corner.
She'd never lived anywhere else but home - well, if one discounted her first six years in Boston - and this was about as far away as she could get from home. It did make her wonder how long before her dad wander back to Boston, and that thought made her smile a little.
Boston, after all, was a hell of a lot closer than Oak Grove.
"Hey," she replied to the guy. Kid, she guessed; he didn't look long out of high school - if he even was out. "Nice day," she offered, turning her attention briefly to the horses. Belle was snuffling at the grass, but Reggie was watching the newcomer attentively. Just like a stallion guarding his herd, even if his herd consisted of one mare and he hadn't been a stallion in a long time.
Well, no harm in it. Probably good he was watchful in case there were coyotes or something.
