Jade was bored. So so so so bored. Belatedly he'd realized that he should have gotten a job for the summer, but by the time he'd thought of it, it had been too late. School was about to start, and he didn't think his brother would want him to work more than weekends and/or a day or two a week. His dad had never allowed it, and Luke probably wouldn't either. Not that his older brother was excessively strict on him, but Jade was a guy who knew how to pick his battles.
He was riding his ten-speed just to have something to do, not wanting to waste gas by driving the car when he didn't have any real destination in mind. Traffic was light on the roads he'd chosen, and he was just beginning to get tired from the length of time he'd been out when he noticed that a car up ahead of him had slowed down. It sped back up again, and he saw that there were horses behind a fence up ahead. He stopped the bike, deciding to take a rest and drink some of his water. It was only then that he saw there was a woman standing out there too.
Jade's cheeks reddened slightly, but he'd already gotten off of the bike. He'd look like a total goob if he climbed back on and raced off. Instead he parked the bike and drank from his water bottle before murmuring, "Hi."
