"Never," Jade said, shaking his head slightly. "Still in high school." To him, that explained most of it. Not like he was old enough to leave for college, and his family had never had occasion to move from the house he'd been brought home to when he was born.
He gratefully accepted the water when she handed it to him and immediately opened it and drank down half. When she asked about interesting things to know about the town, he hoped he didn't make any kind of weird face. How much should he say? He didn't want to scare her unnecessarily, but he didn't want her to find herself in any danger either. "It's a weird town, kind of," he said, holding his half-full bottle against the back of his neck to try to cool down. "Just has a strange vibe." He paused, unable to hold back his concern for the beautiful horses outside. "Your horses stay in the barn at night, right?" he asked, hoping she wouldn't decide to grill him about why he'd asked.
