There were hundreds of words swirling around in his head to describe what lived on Ulm Street but none of them were strong enough. Not one name, not one warning would be enough. He had never met anyone like that before, he hoped he never did again. It was worse than even a nightmare because it was real and that meant you would never, ever wake up from it. "You know," he said, "that nothing ever imagined could be worse than what people are capable of. And I've never seen anyone more horrible than the man on Ulm Street. You need to follow your instincts here. If you feel like you should run you should run. From anyone, no matter what they look like. From me. Even if you know them." If Mouse ran from him she wouldn't really be running form him. But she wouldn't know that and he wouldn't be able to stop himself.
She was worried about monsters. She was young, she'd probably met some bad people in her life if she'd been on the streets at all, but there were real monsters here. She was sitting there with a real monster and she didn't even know it. Felix let his hands fall from his shoulders and he sank onto the floor, chewing on another piece of orange. He looked over at her so she could know what he was saying. "If you feel like you have to run away from me be sure you listen to that, Mouse."
