Kalli was surprised by his apologetic tone. If there was anything she learned over the years, it was to protect oneself. Most people got defensive when she snapped at them. Being a person who had trained herself not to need people, she was perfectly fine with this. It confused her, though, when people reacted in unexpected ways. "Well, you did," she said with a slightly stubborn tone, though it was a lot softer than she had been speaking previously.
Hearing him say that he might have expected her to change, she tried not to laugh. There was nothing that had happened since school to change her view on the world. If anything, it made her even more calloused because she knew why she was given up for adoption and that she had a twin who had been adopted before either of them had a chance to remember. Not to mention being the daughter of the over twenty-years deceased dark lord. "Well, it hasn't changed me," she pointed out.
She didn't know how to react at all to the last part he said. The truth was, Kalli's closed off world made it difficult for her to accept compliments, since she rarely got them. Sure, her brother complimented her, but that was what siblings did... maybe. It wasn't as though she knew how to be a sibling. Maybe he didn't either, but they were trying, that was something, right? She'd gotten a few other compliments from guys before, but she usually brushed it off. She had a feeling that since she'd taken such a harsh tone with him at first, maybe she shouldn't brush this one off. "Thanks," she said, the confusion evident in her voice.
