Daniel waited for Dominique to come down to breakfast before he ambushed her outside of the Great Hall with a huge hug. “Dom!” He picked her up and spun her around before placing her back down. “Happy birthday!” he said excitedly taking something out of his robes and placing both hands behind his back. “Pick a hand.” He said with a playful smile on his face.
“Somebody had his coffee this morning. But thank you anyway.” She said adjusting her shirt not sure if she was more surprised by the ambush or the fact that he remembered her birthday. She put a half grin on her face and pretended to think hard about which one to pick. “That one.” She said pointing to his right hand.
Danny pretended to have a disappointed look on his face, like she picked wrong. “Pick again.” He teased happily messing with his best friend.
“Fine, that one.” She said pointing to his left arm laughing a little.
Smiling broadly Danny handed over a package, poorly wrapped, and watched her take it. “Hope you like it.” He said bouncing on his feet just a little bit, he knew that she would, and even if she didn’t she wouldn’t say anything. But he was confidant that he had gotten it right, so
Dominique looked down at the package once he handed it to her and smiled. It was as poorly wrapped as the first birthday present he had gotten her when they were eleven. She smiled thinking about how long they had been friends and opened up carefully. It was a book, as she opened she found a bunch of pictures of paintings in it along with some information about the artist and the like. “Danny, this is wonderful thank you.” She said touched that he had gotten her something so thoughtful. Dominique couldn’t help but give him a huge hug.
“No problem. I know you like that kind of stuff.” He said returning the hug, glad that she liked it. Frankly all that sort of stuff bored him greatly, but he had spied the book over break when he went with his mother to Flourish and Blotts over the holiday break, and thought it would be something she really liked. “I hate to break up this sentimentality,” he said taking a step back, as he rubbed the back of his neck.
“What do you need?” she asked even though she had a feeling what this might be about. She smiled kindly, he had helped her out greatly, along with her brother, with the whole Solan thing, so the least she could do was keep helping him out until he figured out his Simone thing.
“What do girls want for Valentines Day?” he said asked almost desperately. He hadn’t even remembered the day, if it hadn’t been for Patrick showing him what he had gotten Isabella. This would be the first time that he actually had someone that he wanted to do something for. Every other year, it had been just another day, but with Simone constantly rushing through his head, he wanted to do something special for her. But he was stumped, he didn’t want to get her any jewelry or anything, after all they weren’t even technically dating.
“Um, well.” Dominique said thinking. “Candy is always good.” She said thinking of the most obvious things.
“Yea, but everyone does that. I need something special. What do you want?” he said trying to get her to think for him.
“I don’t want anything.” She said honestly shaking her head, though she realized that this was counter productive. “Okay, but it’s really the thought that counts.” She said knowing this wasn’t helping either. “I think she’ll be touched if you just remember, so you’re mum’s a herbolgoist. Why don’t you write her and ask for some enchanted flowers that won’t wilt for like a month or so?” she suggested.
Danny thought about that for a minute, and debated it with in his head for a little bit. “That could work.” He said a small grin spreading on his face. “Thanks you’re a life saver you know that right?”
“I’ll remember you said that next time I need something.” She said laughing a little bit. She liked to watch this side of Danny, he seemed so happy. She was glad that he found someone that made him look so happy.
Danny chuckled. “I’m hungry.” He said switching subjects. “How about I treat you to breakfast?” he said motioning over to the Great Hall.
“Sure, why not.” She said shaking her head and walking in smiling, looking down at her present, not wanting to wait to start reading it.
