Re: Dex and Cassius
"I believe there are those who wish it," Cassius answered, an edge of grimness to his tone. "And those who know about it, who have ways and means of making such a thing possible. They have eaten up the land and sky already, and I fear none of our secret places are so secret as we might wish them to be."
He glanced around the ballroom, trusting Dex's smooth lead to guide him without his strict attention, but didn't see Mrs Linden nearby. In her butterflies, she was difficult to miss.
"Then again," he said more softly, "if they know the value of what they threaten, perhaps they will not be so eager to extinguish Faerie with their iron and poison."
The musicians wound down; Cassius stepped back once they'd finished and bowed to his partner. "We should speak again soon," he suggested. "I would value your insights, before this matter becomes...more pressing than simply theoretical."
