Re: Cassius Corbet and Lucien Swinton
"Formidable," Cassius replied with relish, settling his hand lightly on Lucien's spine. "And ah, I see. You must make a striking couple, side-by-side. It's very clever of you, to show her to such advantage. She's a fortunate woman."
An oddly fortunate one, Cassius thought privately; one whose former husband was murdered while on holiday by a werewolf, an encounter which she not only survived, but took so well that she left mourning early in order to marry again, this time wedding the man who'd been there for the attack on her husband. And now she was Lady of Black Park, and married to an MP and alpha of an old and stable pack. It was an intriguing timeline of events.
"I'll have to ask her to dance, after so monopolizing her husband," Cassius continued, his tone light and not giving away any of his other thoughts. "I don't believe I've become well-enough acquainted, for someone now in our circle of peers. It's such a small, exclusive circle, isn't it? We may as well get to know one another."
They'd made a half-circuit of the floor now, and Cassius' mouth twitched in an amused smile. "If you'd like to take your turn leading now, I could be obliged to follow. One good turn for another, as they say."
And he hardly minded yielding on so small a matter as the lead in a dance. The better kept the balance the between them, the easier it would be to press an advantage when he truly needed one.
