Keira was in her room, studying and thinking of possible ways for her to finish at the university early. Was it possible? Was there a way for her to finish her degree up early and move on with other things in her life? She was so thinly stretched these days that she wondered if there was something she would have to give up.
Leaving the sisterhood had been a choice, too, but she found that though her leader may be slightly crazy, she loved being here. Plus, it was only because of Chiara that she was getting an education at all, learning to defend herself, and was there to protect her if the need arose. If Chiara wanted to keep her even though she’d made a mess of things on a couple of occasions, then she wasn’t going to go anywhere. So, that meant her choices came down to the shop and her schooling. She wasn’t about to step away from her shop, so that really only left school. Could she graduate early?
While that thought plagued her mind, she was also finishing up some school work, just adding a last answer to a mathematical equation when the ring Gabriel had given her started to throb. She gasped as she held her hand up and looked at the ring as she felt the furiously throbbing, knowing it was throbbing to Gabriel’s heartbeat. She was quick to stand up, to grab her coat and parasol and made it to the door of her room, thoughts of Gabriel in danger having her hurry, when all of a sudden the throbbing stopped and the ring went suddenly cold....dead.
“Oh God,” she whispered. “No…” Was he okay now? Was whatever danger that had beheld him vanish? Or was he...dead? She slipped on her coat as tears welled in her eyes, the thought of Gabriel no longer alive placed a heavy dread upon her heart and it was all she could do to see as she stumbled down the stairs, her hand on the banister to keep her from falling, and making her way outside.
She didn’t know where she was going, or which direction to go in. Gabriel had said that the ring would beat on one side, to alert her of the direction, but there was nothing. “Come on..” she whispered to the ring. “Tell me he is alright.” She bit nervously at her bottom lip and started to walk in one direction. “Oh Gabriel, please do be alright,” she whispered into the cool breeze that stroked her face. She didn’t know what she would do if he wasn’t alright.
She walked until she could walk no further, wishing her ring to beat, to show her where Gabriel was, but it never started again. She sat on a bench and tried to think. She could go to Gabriel’s home to see if he were there, or to talk to Leah, she would have felt the ring as well and might have answers. But what if this was all a mistake and she look like a fool? She could to see Miss Lydia, that was a choice, too. She didn’t know what to do, not yet, but she knew she needed to know if Gabriel was alright.
