What: Meeting for the second time
Where: Le Carnivale de Freak
When: July 30th
Warning: Probably none
The circus had been a home for Delia a lot longer than anywhere else. She'd been all over Europe with them. Each night more and more people came to see the astonishing freaks that were on display. Every night Delia performed as well as she could. When not performing, Delia would often find herself looking at the other displays. There were those in the freak show that she was familiar with, even on friendly terms. They talked and shared stories, longings to be among so-called 'normal' people, and sometimes the righteous self-worth of being so overly different. There were some exhibits though that she couldn't talk to. There was the world's smallest pony, and what passed for a supposed mermaid (though it was really a frog and a fish sewn together), and of course the two headed sheep, or five legged cow. The one that stood out to her though was a woman, and yet not a woman. They claimed she was a vampire, unmoving because of the stake through her heart.
Each night she would pass by and stare, wondering about the woman who was so frozen in place. Was she real? Did she actually live and breathe? Was she a vampire, or was this some elaborate illusion put on by her caretakers? She never did find out. Delia had studied the vampire, often contemplating how just alike they were. Both stuck there, in their own way, both perhaps real and unreal. Both without emotion. Then one evening, the vampire wasn't there. She was just.. gone. Though she asked around, Delia never got a straight answer. Soon life went on.
England came and the circus had decided to put down roots when the new owners took over. They would keep everyone together, but making people come to them was cheaper than them going to the audience. No more living on the train. She stayed on, working as one of the very first acts of the company. Sure people wondered how she didn't age, but Delia often said that she was older than she looked. Tonight's show came and went, people ooh'd and ahh'd and left money in the little tin box just for Delia. It wasn't much, but it allowed her to buy pretty things. As people were leaving and they started cleaning up, she spotted someone who looked a little lost perhaps?
"I'm sorry, miss but the circus is over. Closed for the evening. There's another show tomorrow," she told her gently.
